Good news today that Derek LLambias and Lee Charnley seem to be making a little headway with their negotiations for FC Twente striker Luuk de Jong and the Brazilian defender Douglas.
Douglas – Newcastle have agreed £5M fee from this Brazilian
The Daily Express is reporting this Sunday, that Newcastle have agreed a £5M fee for the 6’4″ center-back, who was born in Brazil, and recently gained Dutch citizenship, and is likely to become a Dutch International defender very soon.
Douglas Franco Teixeira, to give him his full name, turned 24 last January, and Newcastle have been tracking the player all season, and it looks like a deal for the Florianópolis, Brazil born defender may be imminent.
That’s the good news, but the bad news is that FC Twente are holding out for a reported £15M for their 21 year-old striker, Luuk de Jong, and that’s about £5M more than Newcastle have bid for the player so far.
And if that news is true, we don’t think Newcatsle will go as high as that, for the 21 year-old striker, as good as he is.
Douglas joined FC Twente back in 2007 from Brazilian club Joinville,. and by out reckoning, the Brazilian has played a total of 184 times for the Dutch club since then, with 15 goals.
And if this news is true, it seems a decent deal for Newcastle, although more than Newcastle initially wanted to pay for the defender. When the fee is accepted by a club the nest step is to agree terms with the player, and once that’s done a medical is conducted by the buying club..
Douglas will need to fight it out next season with Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson, for a berth in central defense, in the Newcastle first team.
It also means that Douglas can attend pre-season training at Benton next Thursday – again – assuming the news is true – and if Newcastle have agreed and manage to sign the player, born in Florianópolis, Brazil – there should be an announcement on the Newcastle web-site today.

Comment #3disappointed…. was expecting a double deal…. if it was for douglas alone lambias landed in netherlands, would have gone for France for Miang or Sakho or he may have reached Ajax for Alderweid…. All 5 million range better defenders

Comment #6I think at times last year the Colos partnership with Williamson shows the need for Douglas. Although we kept a lot of clean sheets with these two, Mike was often beaten for pace and this was partly the reason for the spankings we took at Spurs. Douglas offers the same physical presence but quicker and more agile. A step forward if treu

Comment #7Sorry but there is NO WAY that Yanga M’Biwa and Sakho are in the 5m range .. Maybe Alderweild , but the previous two are worth nearer to the 10m mark .. Douglas is worth the same as them but since hes only got a year left on his contract we may be getting a real good deal here .. hes a monster of a player

Comment #9Agree with Monte, we needed to strengthen our CB pairing, I like Willo, he did a decent job last season but he is a bit slow at times. With Taylor back from injury that will also give us the depth we’ll need to compete in Europe. Just got to hope Douglas adapts to the prem quicker than Collo did.

Comment #10Don’t really care for Douglas; don’t like his attitude and I don’t think he is worth £ 5 mil. We most be desperate.

Comment #11I do believe both players are there for us to have in the start of next week. The problem is that Twente also feel cheated over money for Tiote. So there are a chance that extra money is due thanx to the fact that it is Newcastle asking for the player. Not to mentioon where Steve come from. WOuld you like to have the player signed for Sunderland or Boro. HWTL

To be fair, I’d probably have reacted the same way if the guy who faked being hit in the face suddenly got up like nothing happened.

Comment #13Someone mentioned earlier about the similarities between douglas and bramble. The only similarity i could assume would be the reckless challenges. I can remember matchdays, were bramble would storm across half the field to reach some poor fella and snap him, crowd loved it. Anyway, douglas is a hell of a lot more consistant than bramble, And confident and the ball. Mbiwa would be the most like to bramble, awful for giving away the ball and running around like a headless chicken, if a big team sign him, he’l soon be exposed as mistake prone imo

By John Richardson and Colin Mafham
NEWCASTLE have agreed a £5m fee with FC Twente for Brazilian defender Douglas.
But Twente are holding out for £15m from the Magpies for striker Luuk De Jong.

You are right, he isn’t worth 5 mill, more like 10 mill, luckily for use his contract his almost up. And I can assure U, Douglas will be our Chris samba, he is also a ball playing CB, and for his size, he is agile, athletic. He is definitely a massive upgrade to what we have. Have U ever seen him play more than 5 times??
Oh and he is nothing like bramble.

I am not talking about whether or not he is an upgrade for Willo but about the current going rate for players.
He has 1 year left of his contract and supposely he is worth 5 mil – Enrique was worth 6 mil and I rate much higher.
You need to look at supply and demand mate 😉 there don’t seem to be much demand for Douglas at 5 mil mate.
I still say we are desperate and still don’t rate him that highly. There are better deals out there.

Comment #23previous article said they wanted 16mill combined for him and de Jong, so they now only want 11mill for the latter compared to the 12.5 they originally wanted… our last bid was 10mill, so i really hope this means theyre close to an agreement

and anothet article said that they wanted £ 15 mil for de Jong; does that mean they only want 1 mil for Douglas?
I would say now we are talking 🙂 can’t see us paying 5 mil for him, but then again if we are desperate enough why not lol
Tarie seem to think he is worth twice as much; thank God he is not buying our players 🙂

Like??
carr recently said that, money is there for the right player, and if nufc dnt think its a good deal, they are willing to wait.
I guess its ur opinion. But I would trust someone who has watched him multiple times, and has been a scout for years and years. 😉

Comment #26Looks a great signing, if true, for £5M. Douglas is a physical presence who could be threat in the opponents box as well as our own & looks very Chris Samba like i.e. strong, physical, good ball control, composed & reassured. One thing i do not know is how quick he is, has anybody seen him in a race with a CF, could he keep up?

Comment #27I think that Duncan Castles, who’s a top journo, has some inside knowlede on Hoilett as i can see us using Best as compensation for Junior. Though i thank Besty for his work Hoilett will really add some serious pace and skill to our attack also the lad can cross as well (which is definitely a bonus) also has super shot.

I don’t trust anyone blindly and I don’t buy into the news circus mate.
As a Dutch player with 1 year left of his contract Douglas is not worth 5 mil mate. No one wants to pay that mate.
What is Simmo worth then mate – 7 mil?
I am taking a piss at you mate, cause I cannot follow your logic mate.

Comment #37I am very happy if this is true that we got a CB, I was losing hope of signing a first team CB after we signed Good, but CB is our biggest need by far, glad we are getting it sorted. Now let’s try to pry De Jong and Debuchy away and I will be a very happy person. I really think that even if we bid £12 million for De Jong he would be worth it, Howay!
