Good news today that Derek LLambias and Lee Charnley seem to be making a little headway with their negotiations for FC Twente striker Luuk de Jong and the Brazilian defender Douglas.
Douglas – Newcastle have agreed £5M fee from this Brazilian
The Daily Express is reporting this Sunday, that Newcastle have agreed a £5M fee for the 6’4″ center-back, who was born in Brazil, and recently gained Dutch citizenship, and is likely to become a Dutch International defender very soon.
Douglas Franco Teixeira, to give him his full name, turned 24 last January, and Newcastle have been tracking the player all season, and it looks like a deal for the Florianópolis, Brazil born defender may be imminent.
That’s the good news, but the bad news is that FC Twente are holding out for a reported £15M for their 21 year-old striker, Luuk de Jong, and that’s about £5M more than Newcastle have bid for the player so far.
And if that news is true, we don’t think Newcatsle will go as high as that, for the 21 year-old striker, as good as he is.
Douglas joined FC Twente back in 2007 from Brazilian club Joinville,. and by out reckoning, the Brazilian has played a total of 184 times for the Dutch club since then, with 15 goals.
And if this news is true, it seems a decent deal for Newcastle, although more than Newcastle initially wanted to pay for the defender. When the fee is accepted by a club the nest step is to agree terms with the player, and once that’s done a medical is conducted by the buying club..
Douglas will need to fight it out next season with Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson, for a berth in central defense, in the Newcastle first team.
It also means that Douglas can attend pre-season training at Benton next Thursday – again – assuming the news is true – and if Newcastle have agreed and manage to sign the player, born in Florianópolis, Brazil – there should be an announcement on the Newcastle web-site today.

Comment #121@hotdog….yeh they aren’t happy but they are 4th choice.
With us de jong would be third choice but as he can play attacking mid and ba did a job on the left there is no reason all 3 couldn’t be on the pitch at once…although that would be unlikely.
fortunately for us our 4th choice striker is shola who will understand he isn’t as good as the other 3 and try to make an impact from the bench.
also we need a good striker for when Ba and Cisse go to the ACON.

Comment #122Also…anyone agree with this…If we were in for Junior Hoilett surely we would use Best as the compensation, IF money is changing hands for Best then I’d predict Hoilett won’t be arriving at St James’ this summer!

Comment #123it must be true cause it says he is in our 1st team squad on wiki lol number 21. also got de jong in the bag according to wiki so you can stop writing on them 2 lol. honestly though im glad it looks like we could get this guy but if we got quoted 16 million for them both i would like to see de jong come in cos that would just be 11 mil. but having said that i havnt given up hope cause the douglas deal would be 5 million cash done and dusted but maybe the luuk deal would be a bit more complicated i.e selling on fee and 1st team appearances maybe?

Comment #124Plus with Douglas coming in there isn’t that extra pressure to play Saylor when fit in nearly every game. If the deal does happen, thats a nice headache for Pardew, think Saylor and Colo would start the season with Douglas eased in to adapt to the English style. There is a very slight chance all 3 could start as a back 3 with Debuchy and Santon as wing back and Tiote in front of them.

Comment #125“It is with some regret we are losing Tiote, he is a physical player and one of Europe’s top players.” ”But as a player he’s had the chance to go to the United Kingdom.”
“And once there is interest from a club, there is nothing more you can do.”
Quotes fromvtwente president after we signed tiote! Let de Jong leave if he’s interested!!

Comment #128IF we wrap up the sale of Best to Blackburn, guessing it would be paid partly in installments, we should forward these payments and any cash we receive for Best onto Twente fo De Jong, so say we’re wiling to pay 12M, add the Best cash on and we’ll get our man!! Simple LOL ;-D

I have a few times, mostly Europa league, and he is quite composed on the ball, him and collo, or Taylor and him, collo and Taylor, will give us some nice options with willo to cover, as bad as pple say willo is, I believe that if he does a perch. Ie not a certain starter but a stop gap, he will be a valuable member of the team, hope we also snap up Good. We would be well stocked in the CB department imo:
Collo
Saylor
Douglas
Willo
Perch
Good.
What are thoughts?

Comment #133All we know for certain is that we’re interested in De Jong and Douglas. The figures are pure speculation. I’ve seen it reported that we’ve bid 8, 10 and 12 million and that Twente are holding out for 12, 15 and 16 million depending on which source you read. Now I’ve just read that Borussia Mondengladbach (or however they’re spelt) think they’re on the verge of the De Jong signature for 9 million + performance add-ons.

Comment #136I must agree with Steve. Why on earth do people say ‘Douglas isn’t worth 5 million!’ or ‘why are we spending 10 million on a CF?’.
I mean for fcuk sake we got hammered of Leyton Orient 3 years ago and we all thought we were heading to league 2. Get a grip and enjoy it. Nobody on this blog has a better knoll ledge of football than the management staff of nufc so if they thinks these guys are worth it I’m all for it. 99% of us thought we’d never spend another penny ever again on transfers and all some of you can do Is moan about it.
I understand the need to put things in perspective and assume of we spend X then Y might not come but don’t presume to know anything about our club. No of us are itk (apart from transfer sage) and I for one am just happy to read we could be signi g 5 quality players that in my dreams give us the two things we all want, good football and a bit of success.
If Douglas turns out to be the next Ferdinand and De Jong the next Van Persie would you all be complaining??
In footballing terms 5-10 million is cheap. Look at Liverpool as an example. Look at Jay Rodriguez who signed for Southampton for 7 million and for an extra 3-4 you can get De Jong.
It was the same last year with some of you. ‘don’t think we should buy Ben Arfa’ ‘who’s this Cabaye? Another cheap import’ ‘santon is not going to replace Enrique’.
C’mon guys we finished 5th, narrowly missed 4th and perhaps for the first time in 5-6 years have an exciting summer where players come in and hardly anyone leaves but you won’t let us enjoy our dreams whilst the nightmares devour you.

Comment #143Nobodies mentioned that Romain Amalfitano has officially signed for us today and nufc.co.uk say they will give us a little update on him on Monday, probably what number he will be given etc.
I’m hopeful we can get deals done for Debuchy, Douglas & Luuk de Jong as they are all very necessary signings to upgrade the squad even more. Anita & Hoilett would be bonus signings really as i’m sure we’ll try get deals done for Good & Gael Bigirimana. If we sign Bigirimana i don’t think we’ll sign Anita but simpley promote Abeid or Gosling to Guthrie’s position last season.
Ins: Debuchy, Good, Douglas, Hoilett, Luuk de Jong
Bigirimana or/& Anita
Outs: Simpson, Best, Ranger, Xisco (please Lord have Mercy) & Forster
Oh hopefully Tav signs a new deal as well but if not Clyne wouldn’t be a half bad replacement.

You need to stop this about having to name players or that one have to have seen Douglas for 5 games to have an opinion 🙂
We have even had polls on this blog about whom would be the better signing and Douglas never came out on top.
I don’t rate him at 5 mil mate and I think he looses his head ones too often and a don’t like his attitude.
I don’t signing him, but he is free next summer so I would wait. Still don’t think any other club are going to pay 5 mil. for him. We just have to wait and see 🙂

Comment #145good point on Tav, hope he signs a new deal. I think we are stuck with Ranger, but Sheff Weds may at least take him on loan again until Jan.
As come African Nations time, we’ll need 3 strikers, so in theory that’s hopefully De Jong, Shola and at the moment Ranger unless i’m forgetting someone.

Comment #147That raises a question, what would people prefer, as Xisco is likely not to move on again. Would you prefer him still to be loaned out, or become effectively a 6th choice striker and provide cover for when Ba and Cisse jet off to Africa again?

Comment #149Maybe we should come at this from a different angle. Twente have arguably the best scouting set up around. It would be interesting to know who they are scouting to replace De Jong and try and usurp them. Getting a bit sick of Twente ratcheting up the prices as revenge for Tiote.

Comment #151I’m delighted with this. Unless a guy is out of contract, you can expect to pay 4million upwards for quality, and we badly need some height and power at the back, as well as a threat from corners etc. Beattie, i dont think Santon has fully replaved Enrique yet, in terms of quality. Another season needed. I think i’d prefer hom at RB, but am not certain if he has played there a lot or not. He is still too hesitant in the tackle IMO.
