Dutchman Lets It Be Known He’s Keen To Join Newcastle

10:26 pm, Sunday, July 1st, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 88 Comments

There is a good chance that Newcastle can get FC Twente center-back Douglas to Newcastle, and the news this morning was that a deal had been done with FC Twente for £5M for the Brazilian player.

Vurnon Anita – Newcastle is a beautiful club

Douglas has just one year left on his contract, and that fee seems high, if it’s accurate, but the 5M could also be in euros, so that would mean it’s £4M.

The fee still seems a lot, for a player who has just one year left on his contract.

And Newcastle seem to be in a neck and neck race with German club Borussia Monchengladbach for Dutch striker Luuk de Jong, and we should know the outcome of that within a day or two.

The third player Newcastle are negotiating for is Lille right back Mathieu Debuchy, and if the news is to be believed, Newcastle have upped their offer to £6M for the top French defender.

And we  have already bid £5M for Ajax full-back and defensive midfielder player Vurnon Anita, and in case Newcastle had forgotten about him, the Dutchman had this to say today to Ajax Life:

“Newcastle are a beautiful club. I’m open to anything. We’ll see what happens, but there’s nothing wrong with listening to Ajax and what interested clubs have to say.”

“I will seriously consider anything that comes up. Does it matter to me that Newcastle are not in the Champions League?  -  No.”  ”However, I’m an Ajax player for now. I’m focusing on Ajax.”

“Newcastle’s interest has made me think about a potential transfer, though. It’s a sign that I’m on the right track and have to keep this up. I haven’t set a deadline for when I want clarity. I’ll just see how this pans out.”

That’s a strong statement from the Dutch International that he wants to join Newcastle, and we think he would be a good acquisition for the club.

The next step is to see if Newcastle can get a decent deal for the 3 times capped 23 year-old Dutch International, via additional negotiations with Ajax, but we don’t think Newcastle will go much above £5M.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

    No

    Ed bit of constructive criticism:
    Please could you refer to Newcastle as “we” as opposed to the “they” – it makes you sound far too impartial which isn’t required on a Newcastle United blog.

    I hope we sign him.

    F…., I just hope no more Willo in EPL. just think that lad is disaster…

    hope we struck the deal for anita before training starts.

  • 8 RonVanDam // Jul 1, 2012 at 10:34 PM

    So last season we went to France to do business, this year it looks like its going to be Holland. Germany next year?

  • 9 belgrade fan // Jul 1, 2012 at 10:36 PM

    And we need CM, like Corgnet, this is very important position for us. Cabaye cant play every single game. Think 6M for Anita will be ok

  • 10 Troleibusiukas_LTU // Jul 1, 2012 at 10:39 PM

    willo is not as bad as you think. he is good in the air and is not a bad tackler, yes he need composer on the ball and more pass accuracy and pace and maybe more strenght, but he is good person to have in the squad, he is a good back up player, he will do the job in the cups and even in europa league qualifier.

  • 11 Toon-Barmy // Jul 1, 2012 at 10:39 PM

    Possible starting line-up against Spurs on opening day:

    —————————–Krul—————————————–

    Debuchy——–Douglas————Coloccini———-Santon

    —————–Tiote———————Anita———————–

    Ben Arfa———————-Cabaye——————–De Jong

    ——————————Cisse————————————–

    Subs:
    Elliot
    S Taylor
    R Taylor
    Jonas
    Marveaux
    Ba
    Ameobi

    And that squad doesn’t include:
    Harper
    Williamson
    Perch
    Amalfitano
    Ferguson
    Obertan
    Sam. Ameobi
    Tavernier
    Vuckic
    Abeid

  • 12 Beattie25 // Jul 1, 2012 at 10:40 PM

    If Luuk De Jong wants to get playing time then I don’t think he’ll come to us. He’d be 3rd choice behind Cisse and Ba.

    Yes he could get cup games and Europe but ultimately at monchengladbach he’d be a starter week in and week out.

  • 13 Toon-Barmy // Jul 1, 2012 at 10:41 PM

    Thats assuming Simpson, Best, Forster, Xisco & Ranger leave.

  • 14 SupaToonKid // Jul 1, 2012 at 10:42 PM

    Ed, we bid £4M for Anita (5M Euros) so i’m sure we’ll go back in with £5M and then £6M but can’t see us going in higher than that for Vurnon. Would be a great signing alongside Tiote in the centre allowing Cabs to attack also Anita would cover with Jonas in ACON and also be able to play LB if Santon gets injured or suspended. Great to see players wanting to come to Tyneside.

  • 15 Ben Arfa (Either love him or Hatem) // Jul 1, 2012 at 10:43 PM

    What’s happening with Tavernier?

  • 16 Graeme // Jul 1, 2012 at 10:44 PM

    Douglas, Debuchy, DeJong added to what we already have, really does take the cub onto a new level. The back four will be superb and still have Saylor, Williamson, Perchinio as back up!!

    Dont think we have ever had Two Brazilians in the team before, must be good lol

  • 17 belgrade fan // Jul 1, 2012 at 10:45 PM

    I said- just no more Willo in EPL….
    he is just a shit player same as Simmo, and they cost us at least few points….
    We will never step forward with this 2 shit players

  • 18 SwedishMagpie // Jul 1, 2012 at 10:45 PM

    Is Douglas better than S Taylor ?

  • 19 Toon1978 // Jul 1, 2012 at 10:47 PM

    Keep seeing Collo linked with a move to Man City. Maybe he is on his way out and the money from Collo will be funding these player. Maybe that is why we are going in for Douglas.

  • 20 Dannyo // Jul 1, 2012 at 10:50 PM

    @SwedishM
    Hard to tell, but he doesn’t have to be, cause Saylor played like Englands best CB before his injury this season.
    If Douglas is as good as that, then i’m a happy man.

  • 21 Troleibusiukas_LTU // Jul 1, 2012 at 10:51 PM

    i don’t think cisse will start against totenham, remember he will play in olympics, he had world cup qualifiers, he will miss pre season with us and will be taking his ramadan routine, so i think de jong would be our star striker at the start of the season.

    Toon 1978, Really cant see Captain Collo going anywhere!! He must be creaming himself at the thought of being in the middle of such a skilled defensive unit.

    It looks absolutely the dogs danglies and will be an amazing foundation for the midfield and attack. Cant wait to see them in action together – reminds me of the Arse in their heyday – always started from the defence!!

  • 25 Ben Arfa (Either love him or Hatem) // Jul 1, 2012 at 10:53 PM

    Oh and you only have 10 players…

  • 27 Levi // Jul 1, 2012 at 10:56 PM

    @ toon-barmy

    really? ba on the bench? maybe marvoux or jonas on the left and de jong up front if cisse and ba at olympics. if not then ba has to start he is a great player. and i hope jonas plays instead of anita. he puts his all in every game. anita can earn a place 1st. and also taylor instead of douglas

  • 28 keeping the faith // Jul 1, 2012 at 10:58 PM

    The robledo bros were 2 brazillians ;D. Bu I hope we sign de jong, debuchy, douglas and anita. I think de jong would start ahead of ba on the left hand side of a 3 pronged attack of him cisse and ben arfa

  • 29 Ben Arfa (Either love him or Hatem) // Jul 1, 2012 at 10:58 PM

    Given how we’re building this team around Cabaye, I would expect him to play the bulk of the matches (touchwood he doesn’t get injured)

    because tiote and ben arfa are not such a strong believers they do not take ramadan as much as dembas do.

  • 33 keeping the faith // Jul 1, 2012 at 11:11 PM

    If we sell cabaye we lose debuchy and if we sell ba we unsettle cisse. I don’t think we’re selling anyone major this summer without adequate or better replacement coming in.

  • 34 SupaToonKid // Jul 1, 2012 at 11:12 PM

    Kc-Toon

    Don’t bring crap spouted by the retards from CaughtOffside.com on to this site. Man Utd won’t want Ba as Fergie never buys ACON players & Ashley would never sell Cabaye for £16M, £20M at least but I’d expect us to turn our noses up at that as well & be looking more at £25M.

  • 35 SmileyFace // Jul 1, 2012 at 11:12 PM

    @28 just FYI the robledos were Chilean

  • 36 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 1, 2012 at 11:12 PM

    If we can get these 5/6 first team players in, we’ll have a chance of winning the europa league. Hopefully we won’t sign Pieters. All the players want to come to us.

    We just need to get them over the line. Think we should get Carr to have a look in the South American leagues. Would like to see a player like Diego signed.

  • 44 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 1, 2012 at 11:24 PM

    Does anyone think that Vuckic should be utilised as a striker? I feel that Medhi Abeid will make the step up this season, but we could use Vuckic as our 4th striker. He used to play up front.

  • 45 LGFUAD21 // Jul 1, 2012 at 11:24 PM

    And on Cabaye. I would take not less than what Modric is valued at.

    He is a better player than Modric (so overrated) and this s all from one season in the prem.

    i agree, Cisse and Ba only began to know each other over the last 12 months… but we need to keep Ba because they have the potential to be one of the best strike partners in Europe. maybe next season once they’ll both start scoring for fun at the same time…wow that made me smile there. exciting times ahead lads!

  • 47 Troleibusiukas_LTU // Jul 1, 2012 at 11:26 PM

    CISSE IS HAPPY TO PLAY FOR NUFC NO MATTER OF BA SITUATION. Cisse took number nine shirt with a lot of respect, and demba refused to take it (why? he knew he would probably left us after the season and he didn’t want to make ‘carrol’ to us all, but we played fantasticly well, ended up 5th.. demba could have sign the new contract, but he and simpson didn’t – he is off. IMO)
    )

  • 49 keeping the faith // Jul 1, 2012 at 11:27 PM

    I’m judging cisse being unsettled if ba leaves by the comments made by cisse when questioned how he had adapted so quickly to English football saying that ba was here made it easier for him.

  • 50 Troleibusiukas_LTU // Jul 1, 2012 at 11:28 PM

    @ Swedish

    that’s not the question. the question is do we need one more cb like Douglas that is of a similar quality to Saylor in addition to Saylor for all the games we will soon play, or close to it (i.e., elevated compared to Williamson), and the answer is of course.

  • 62 No Plain Saylor // Jul 2, 2012 at 1:21 AM

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~krul
    Bench;
    Saylor
    Raylor
    Ba
    De jong
    Marveux
    Jonas
    Think anita and tiote holding midfield would allow santon and debuchy to bomb foward, and also most importantly cabs gets to play in an advanced role and ve the pass master pulling all the ateungs, and qith two pacey goal scoring dangerous wingers like benny and hoilett, and we can easily swap cf about.
    Anita, translated by a english guy in holland (me):
    ” I got some messages from players saying they wish I had gone. Thats nice to hear. Hopefully next time! The disappointment of not going to the Euro’s was no diffrent to two years ago. In short: holiday and then back to Ajax”
    “Newcastle is a nice club. I’m open to everything. Hearing what other clubs and ajax have to say, is always possible.
    We shall see, at the moment I’m still here [Ajax] and I’m going to do my best.”
    ” If something comes up, I will listen and have a look. Listening is always possible and then we we will see. Newcastle is definatly intresting. Does it bother me that Newcastle aren’t in the CL? No.”
    ” But at the moment I’m at Ajax and I’m
    in the CL. I haven’t talked to Frank van de Boer [Ajax manager], but I have heard that he[Frank] doesn’t even want to think of me leaving. An answer like that gives me confidence. It sounds completly diffrent to (if Ajax had said: ) Lets hear what Newcastle have to offer.”
    ” I’m fully focussed on Ajax, but because of Newcastle’s intrest I’ve been forced to think about it. It tells me that I’m doing good and need to keep up the hard work. What ever I decide, I know my parents will be behind me 100%. The choice is mine. I don’t have a date in mind that I want to know it by (aka a deadline), we will see how it goes”
    They were his answers, i think u can figure out the questions lol. But whats intresting is that the reporter said bigger clubs than Newcastle are intrested in him.
    Not sounding stupid at all mhurford. I´ve been thinking about this same thing many times.
    Jonas has been one of the most consistent performers and the hardest worker in the teamd last couple of seasons. Do people think we`ll have so much flash and skill on the side next season that a working man isn`t needed anymore? That`s almost ungrateful.
    Jonas would be one of the first names in my side next season.
    Thanks Matias, mine too. He may not be the fastest dribbler but damn he works. Few games i get to go to at the stadium i find it almost impossible to comprehend how he works so tirelessly.
