Leon Best Having Medical At Blackburn

It looks like Leon Best has decided to accept the offer from Championship club Blackburn Rovers, after a fee was agreed between Blackburn and Newcastle.

Leon Best – on his way to Blackburn

Other clubs had been  interested in the 25 year-old striker, and Premier League clubs Southampton and Norwich City were also said to keen on the former Coventry City striker.

The Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was speaking to Radio 5 today, and he had this to say about  Leon Best, when asked if he was having a medical at Blackburn:

“I believe so.”  “If he passes the medical then he will move, yes.“   “I think it’s a great move for Leon because he wants first team football. He’s a great guy but he wants to play.”

“Last season he was in and out, had injuries and was off-form.”  “He needs to play and so, for Blackburn it’s a good signing and for us the money is okay too.”

The fee that Blackburn are willing to pay for Best is anywhere between £2.25M and £3M,  depending on which reports you believe, and Newcastle will also get £2M for Fraser Forster,  who will sign on at Celtic.

It seems to be an excellent signing for Blackburn Rovers , because Leon can get some goals in the Championship next season.

That means Newcastle will get up to £5M added to their coffers for those two departing players, but the Tyneside club are also expected to shell out up to £20M for their three major targets – Luuk de Jong, Mathieu Debuchy and Brazilian defender Douglas.

That’s if we can manage to bring them to Newcastle,  and we should hear some news on Newcastle’s Luuk de Jong quest within the next few hours.

We’re keeping out fingers tightly crossed.

Good luck to Besty. However, it’s a little concerning that all we see is departures and next to nothing coming in although it is still very early. Our squad is quite thin now in certain department. De Jong bid being rejected is a little deflating tbh. Even worse because it seem De Jong wants the move.

Hope besty has a good season at blackburn, he didnt have the greatest ability but his effort and work rate could never be questioned. He’ll probably bag 15 goals in the champ next season

i Dont think Losing Smith, Lovenkrands, Guthrie, Forster & Best is the end of the world and too be fair 5m for Forster & Best is good deals & Guthrie maybe kept but other 2s bests days are behind then……..i agree about incomings but the transfer window has only been open 2days and everyone is just coming back from holiday etc this week, but i do expect 4or5 players too come in………..who they are only time will tell

I honestly can’t see how twente could reject 11£m unless they were keeping de Jong. 14m€ is much higher than the rumoured fee Gladbach were meant to be paying…maybe the media are wrong. Sure there’ll be other targets if this doesn’t come off though

@ toonboy, well he punches in bunches where goals are concerned so he probably only needs to be fit for 6 games to get 15 goals haha.

If we’re not getting Luuk for £11 mill, then Luuk isn’t going anywhere this year.
    Time will tell.

Its gonna be amazing if the rumours pan out and we replace: Best, Smith,Guthrie,Lovenkrands with Douglas, Debuchy,Anita and De Jong. Cant see the Europa League being out of reach , maybe even a Domestic Cup too

Shows ambition by the club to sell Best.

It would be easy to keep him because he can do a job.
Now he has to be replaced by a better player.

Lovenkrands too, so two strikers are needed.

Could the Best deal be the compensation for any deal we may negotiate for Hoilett rather than going foward to the Luuk de Jong fund?

So the same Dutch media that reported De Jong had signed for mgladbach has now said we have had our final bid rejected.

They seem to be as good as our media when it comes to stories, make it up!

Best will do OK with Blackburn. He worked hard for us when we sold AC and helped Ba during his hot streak.

I loved his header against Birmingham away and his goal v QPR. His hat trick v West Ham was nice too

    Good luck Leon

If De Jong does stay at Twente could turn out like Cisse.. They try to rip us off and eventually we steal for a bargain. Douglas hasn’t been mentioned much maybe we’ll get him

If we do get de Jong ,who will he play instead of?
When tne acon is on we will need strikers or when someone is suspended or injured.
We’ve now sold Best, loven is gone and Sholas fitness can’t be relied on so who will we have?
Guthrie was and could be a costly loss as he fitted in easily in the team and ave us somethin different.
Hopefully Vukcic will come on this season along with Abeid,Marveau,Obertan and that’ll give us enough cover in midfield.

Actually, i tried to check that out, it seems only German and French media said that about Monchenglad. No known dutch media said that, atleast no what i can find.
Also, Voetbal International had the Toivonen story.
The source on Luuk is more or less “new” i think.

To be honest i hope we actually do use Best as compensation for Hoilett because we can always use the money from Forster (£2M) and Simpson (£4M) also possibley £2M extra if we can shift those two useless lumps Ranger and Xisco to pay for part of the de Jong fee and then use the rest of the budget to complete all the other signings (Anita, Douglas & Debuchy) as well as the extra money needed for de Jong.

Individual deals are difficult to do.

When you start trying to do deals which dependent on other deals it gets very complicated.
Besides Hoilett is a free agent and we can talk to his agent directly without Blackburn’s involvement.

Saying on Twitter that De Jong won’t commit to a move but he can’t make his mind up who to join lol. Time to give the kid a wide berth and move on. Probably a huge talent but we only want people that want to play for the club eithout any hesitation.

Luuk de Jong is on holiday and won’t return for another week… All DL and LC are trying to do is agree a fee with the club… Luuk would jump at the chance of moving to Newcastle… All this reports that 11m has been rejected are bullshi’t… How the hell would the media know what’s in discussion behind closed doors? They just take a stab in the dark…. Believe me, our chances of getting de Jong are still VERY high

aye we can talk to Hoilett without Blackburn’s involvement but as Hoilett is u23 we will be required to pay £3-4M compensation for him hence that’s why i suggest we may use Best as the make wait so we do not have to pay that compensation fee. At the end of the day that deal looks super as in today’s market Hoilett could be worth anywhere between £10-20M.
