It looks like Leon Best has decided to accept the offer from Championship club Blackburn Rovers, after a fee was agreed between Blackburn and Newcastle.
Leon Best – on his way to Blackburn
Other clubs had been interested in the 25 year-old striker, and Premier League clubs Southampton and Norwich City were also said to keen on the former Coventry City striker.
The Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was speaking to Radio 5 today, and he had this to say about Leon Best, when asked if he was having a medical at Blackburn:
“I believe so.” “If he passes the medical then he will move, yes.“ “I think it’s a great move for Leon because he wants first team football. He’s a great guy but he wants to play.”
“Last season he was in and out, had injuries and was off-form.” “He needs to play and so, for Blackburn it’s a good signing and for us the money is okay too.”
The fee that Blackburn are willing to pay for Best is anywhere between £2.25M and £3M, depending on which reports you believe, and Newcastle will also get £2M for Fraser Forster, who will sign on at Celtic.
It seems to be an excellent signing for Blackburn Rovers , because Leon can get some goals in the Championship next season.
That means Newcastle will get up to £5M added to their coffers for those two departing players, but the Tyneside club are also expected to shell out up to £20M for their three major targets – Luuk de Jong, Mathieu Debuchy and Brazilian defender Douglas.
That’s if we can manage to bring them to Newcastle, and we should hear some news on Newcastle’s Luuk de Jong quest within the next few hours.
We’re keeping out fingers tightly crossed.
