Newcastle Will Switch Their Attention To Other Strikers

It could be the end of the road for Newcastle with their final bid for Luuk de Jong apparently being €12M, which is around £9.6M, but still short of the €15M or £12M that FC Twente are asking for.

John Guidetti – Manchester City 19 year-old Swedish striker

That’s according to a Sky Sports report this morning, and it could even be accurate, although there’s always inbuilt confusion on the fee,  as to whether the prices quoted are in UK pounds or the euro.

And German side Borussia Monchengladbach are still involved, and it will be interesting to see if they put in a higher bid than the one they lodged last Friday, and there was news on Saturday they said it had been accepted by FC Twente, but that seems not to have been the case.

There’s still a chance that Newcastle can get Luuk de Jong to Tyneside, but we’re sure Newcastle wanted to tie up the deal quickly, and now it’s a pubic auction, that’s probably enough to put Newcastle off.

So we wouldn’t be at all surprised if Newcastle start looking at other cheaper options, and there are three players that come to mind.

19 year-old Swedish striker John Guidetti  is on Manchester City’s books, and spent last season on loan at Dutch club Feyenoord, where he scored 20 goals and 8 assists in just 23 games – not too bad at all.

The other 19 year-old we are keen on is Dutch youngster Luc Castaignos, who joined Inter-Milan from Feyenoord last summer, but didn’t get much playing time at the Milan giants, and he’s looking for first team football next season.

In the 2010-2011 season, when he was just 18, he scored 15 goals in 37 appearances for Feyenoord.

These two lads look to be excellent prospects, and hopefully they would come cheaper than Luuk de Jong, and while they are a bigger bet than Luuk, they do have huge potential, but they are not the finished item yet, by a long way.

And of course we have been linked with Ola Toivenon of PSV Eindhoven, but he’s 26 years old today, and Ola was part of Sweden’s squad of 23 at the Euro 2012 tournament just finished.

We’re not big fans of this lad, and w’d prefer to see somebody younger brought  in this summer.

Those are three other strikers we’ve been linked with, and if we don’t get de Jong to Newcastle, we would tend to go after one of the 19 year-olds, and try hard to keep Demba Ba on Tyneside.

Which are the other striker targets Newcastle should be interested in?

Comments welcome.

Think we should play with one striker if demba leaves and we left with a young youngster upfront as Cisse’s sub. Seems like our strength will be defense. Hoping our mid field can bang in the goals.

Getting sick of the BA situation. Lose the clause or just go.
We can’t have that hanging over us all the time.

Glad to see we won’t be held to ransom by Twente, but maybe getting Gameiro at half the original price could be good

Does anyone else think we need a decent center mid too? Since Danny left weve kinda lost our decent bk up, seeing as gosling didnt really step up last season and romain, abied and haris probably arnt quite ready yet.

Spain proved you can play total football with great passing and movement and even a left back can score instead of a tall lumbering English style target man

I am content with Papisto, Ba and Ameobi fighting it out in the first team. What I would like is for us to sign a U21 at a fair price to fill in if either Papisto, Ba or Ameobi are out injured or away at the ACON.

But if we should sign anyone I would like for us to sign someone who are tricky and fast and can play wide as well 🙂

As much as do no want to say it but I must accept Ashley’s approch on these transfer shenanigans. We will not be drawn into a bidding wars either by players or agents. We have shown since last season that we as a club can attract and keep quality players who are loyal and doing a grand job for the club. If some player wants to think we trade in meat markets they had better think again. I am sure Alan and our redoubtless Mr Carr can find just as good if not better than De Jong! As for Ba – what is happening now? Make you mind up time. Now it seems the scousers are sniffing around. We take him on a free, give him an opportunity to shine on the grand stage of St James Park, put his kudos and price up and then cannot make his mind up so a “lower club” can come calling. We are not, as I said, a meat market, neither Liverpool are we a knocking shop. Howay the lads. Come an Alan show them who’s got it right!

We are Never going to Compete With Man City or Man utd for your Aguero’s or Rooney’s.. We have to Spend more than £10 million to Compete . Free Transfers and £5m tops is not good enough.. We have to get Non African Players as good as they are as the African Nations Will Crucify us !!!! We have and extra £3 M Now in The Pot For a New Striker De Jong at €15 would be a good Buy !!!!!!!

To be honest, if we keep the 4-3-3 and we keep Ba, Cisse and Shola then that is enough centre forwards to see us through to January. Cisse up front in the league, Ba in Europa. Its the left wing position that we need cover for more urgently and also cover in centre midfield now. We only have HBA who can attack with pace, Marveaux can only be judged and relied upon after he has played 15 games without injury, we cant presume he will play enough this season to be regarded as anything other than backup.

Hoilett and a box to box centre midfielder who can score goals please, Demba is reserve centre forward, not left attack as we found out last season.

Anyone think Adam Campbell could be ready go the bench next year?

Also stopping cisse playing at the olympics is wrong. Players should always go to their national sides as a priority.

The Olympics may not be big on the uk for football but other counties take it seriously.

If I was cisse and they stopped me from playing I would hand in a transfer request right away.

Surely Pardew and the rest have players lined up because as far as i can see we have just released the best of the rest from our squad Guthrie and Best were decent back up. As it stands we will have Strolla leading the line on his lonesome come the ACON , Best gone Loverman gone and the reserve strikers also gone.Ps is Luuk De Jong really 5mill better than Cisse ???

Ericles, we all know that agents have one interest only, money, but in fairness to them its not themselves who are responsible for these bidding wars, its the clubs who are not accepting the bids which are made for the players, De Jong’s agent would rather he geta transfer as thats how he gets paid.

then shit hits the fan mate 😉 especially if HBA is out as well 🙂

…but you can only prefer yourself that much. I did say I wanted us to sign a U21 to fill in didn’t I?

I am just more to the Spanish way of thinking. U don’t need more than 22-23 players in the first team. Anyone else should be the youngsters. So I suggest Pardew get some youngsters in fast 🙂
