Aly Cissokho has been desperate to leave Olympique Lyonnais for the last year, and of course Newcastle were more than interested in this French International left-back last summer, and almost signed him.

Aly was never capped at any of the French youth levels, and only made one full appearance for France in August of 2010, when the 6′ tall defender was called up to the team by new manager Laurent Blanc, for the friendly match against Norway, and he played the full game.
Newcastle, Naples, Inter Milan and other clubs have been linked with the Blois-born Frenchman, who is of Senegalese descent.
Lyon have been wanting €10M for their player, but that fee will hardly attract too many clubs, and he is getting his lawyers involved, as he had this to say to the French media:
“To be in line with the ambitious career that I set for myself, I decided to entrust the management of my interest to lawyers who are experienced in contract negotiations in the football world.” ”It gives me the guarantee of a working professional representation and greater rigor. “
Cissokho is using a firm called 3A, and hopes to leave Olympique Lyonnais in this transfer window, and his representatives have already met officials of Lyon, to discuss the future of their client, and especially his transfer fee.
If his fee was reduced to around €5M, and Newcastle fail to get Mathieu Debuchy in from Lille, the 24 year-old could then possibly become a target again of Newcastle - maybe.

Guthrie was very important last season when cabaye was out and now he has gone and we have so many more games….Cabaye needs to play higher up the pitch to be more affective in a Xavi kinda role.

Kets is correct. Those two made too many mistakes and we certainly could have finished 3rd.
Eevn worse was Best and Ameobi playing up front prior to Cisse arriving. That cost us a lot of pts as well. That is now sorted so when they get the defence sorted as well it will be better.

The problem with Ketsbaia’s posts is the relentless going on about how “we can’t miss this player”, “the club must tie this one up now”, “If we don’t pay the extra money and get player X we will be doomed”…It’s just all a bit over the top and just not realistic.
We know the club are going to deal with transfers in a certain way, so why drive yourself and everyone else nuts? Make suggestions, sure, even add why you think they’d be an improvement. As said earlier though, where does it stop? Messi? Ronaldo?
It’s been agreed, whether you like Simmo and Willo, think they did a good job or a terrible job that they are both “upgradable” and should be the first ones to be replaced. I still think both of them would have a place in our squad mind, as they have also, whether spectacular or not, done a decent shift for the Newcastle cause.

No no, we was having a great season until the last few games where incompetence played it’s part in us going downhill and finishing 5th. Like Pardew said ”we’re up there now and we intent on going for third place’.
Maybe if we would’ve played Raylor and Perch at the right, we might still have finished in third place.

I agree with Ibitza. IMHO one of the main problems is that many (if not most) people around here rate players based on hearsay and a couple of youtube videos. Realistically i would think maybe 15-20% of the people on the forum have followed the dutch league(for example) and have a decent enough idea on how to rate players like de Jong or Douglas. And it’s the same for any player we are linked with outside the EPL would guess.

won the first 6
we lost to an inform wigan (as did liverpool, man utd, arsenal…2 of those are better than us)
we lost to man city ( as did most teams)
and we got beat away at everton (everton had a great home record)
simpson didn’t even play in the last 3…2 of which we lost.

Kets mate….it wasn’t just the last few games where it went a bit wrong, was it? There were a few “patches” through the season where we dropped points that could have made a difference. A bit like every other team in the Premier league.
I do honestly understand what you’re saying, but it’s never going to be perfect. In an ideal world we would win all of our 38 games, as hey, we beat Man U 3-0, surely we can beat everyone in the league? It just doesn’t work like that, it’s not reality.
Overall though, of course we should improve our squad and importantly our starting 11. Just stop with the deadlines. We may not break in to the top 4 this season, or next, but we are improving at an impressive rate and I see only good things for us int he future. Be proud and enjoy the times, they look better than they have in years

Can argue Ba didn’t score 2nd half of season, that cost us points. Santon had some bad games people seem to forget about, collo had a few bad matches.
yes some players can be improved realistically like simmo and willo….but we could improve on cabaye (iniesta), ben arfa (messi), krul (casillas)….
people need to be realistic and see we cannot afford to buy 10 starters in one season…it is a slow process where the board and management will bring in 3 or 4 a season to build us slowly

if we list players who are hyped up in the media and pay big fees which are over the top, just and extra 2 million for him, another 5 to make sure this guy signs tomorrow, like ketsbaia wants us too we will be world beaters…

they thing people also seem to forget is we were 13th 2 seasons ago…
the club then had a target of top 10 so bought players accordingly…..the team achieved more than expected and finished 5th.
Therefore the players who are the weak links do look out of place for a team in europe…however that was not the original target so now the club will look to shift out thes players….best for example and improved the team with better players more fitting for where we are and next seasons targets.

what people need to see is what happened with rangers….we don’t want to be spending above our means and end up in liquidation.
I know financial fair play has come in for UEFA competitions and whilst I think it’s a good idea I can never see UEFA kicking out a barcelona or real madrid as they would lose too much in sponsorship and it would make the competition not feature the bets of the best.
But I can see UEFA punishing teams of our level with a fan if we don’t follow the rules, same as for other mid-high level european sides…they will never ban the very best but they could ban others…you know how corrupt they all are there.
We need steady progress with focus on the academy and bring in 2 or 3 a season to add to what we develop and already have.

Ketsbaia9 – it was the last 3 games in which we dropped a couple positions, and Simpson wasn’t even playing, Perch was. So your point that if we’d have played Perch or Raylor we would have still been in 3rd just makes you look even more of a moron than you did

If I remember right, Simmo was statistically the best in the prem last season. Could be wrong but that’s what I remember commentators saying during games.
