While most of the news over the last week has been about Newcastle going after their transfer targets Luuk de Jong, Douglas and Mathieu Debuchy, Newcastle are still looking around the world for talent to bring to Tyneside.
Graham Carr - taking a trip to South America soon?
And Newcastle are fast getting a good name for how a football club should be run, and yes, that’s a million miles away from the state Newcastle were in a short three years ago, when we had been relegated from the Premier League for the first time ever, and were in some disarray.
And that’s a huge understatement.
But Newcastle have done some great deals in the last couple of years, bringing in top players like Cheick Tiote, Ben Arfa, Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse, all for around £20M, which is just fantastic business by the club .
And that’s just over half of what Newcastle received for Andy Carroll from Liverpool – to put things in perspective.
But it’s not just first team players Newcastle are continually on the lookout for, and with up to nine Development players being released from Newcastle last weekend, we expect several top young players to be arriving at Newcastle over the next couple of months.
And there’s news that Managing Director Derek LLambis traveled to South America last week, and the news is that he was in Argentina, trying to tie up deals for two top youngsters, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Since Mike Ashley arrived at Newcastle, there hasn’t been too much scouting done in South America, but that may be about to change as big investments in the scouting team at Newcastle have been made by the Newcastle owner over the last year or so.
So we may even be seeing top scout Graham Carr taking that long trip to South America soon – and certainly there are some great footballers in South America, there’s no doubt about that.
Ant ideas as to who these two young players could be?
Comments welcome.

I think you’re on to something there. If we start “scouting” in Mexico we’ll know for certain!
4 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 4, 2012 at 2:23 PM
They’re obviously listening to me. That’s what I suggested 3 days ago.
I feel that we need to snap up 4/5 youngster from South America for the development squad.
I also think Sakho could be an option, but I’d rather us go for Vertonghen, Alderweild first and then Sakho, Mbiwa and Douglas if we can’t get any one of previous mentioned names over the line.
5 SupaToonKid // Jul 4, 2012 at 2:28 PM
Ketsbaia
You’re the last person they’d listen to, you deluded muppet. They’re just exploring the world as they should to try and enhance the club.
And mate will you stop banging on about signing Vertonghen as he’s not coming here as he’s way too overpriced and Alderweireld doesn’t want to leave Ajax. Sakho is also a better CB than Vertonghen anyway and has potential to be the best in the world but PSG are just stupid and want players who are the best now or most overrated now.

This is probably the happiest i’ve been supporting Newcastle, and how far we’ve came since relegation is amazing. People might not like Ashley for things he’s done but he has the club running smoothly and it looks like it can only get better HWTL!

Sakho had a shocking season at PSG which was one of the reasons he was dropped.
He made some Bramblesque mastakes in some games and looked off the pace.
Think he believed all the hype about himself and forgot basics. .
Previous 2 seasons he looked a realm prospect & was excellent.
Not convinced he has the right character that Pardew is looking for.
Bit of a bling merchant and probably thinks he is above Newcastle and would prefer Arsenal/Chelski/Manure.

Package: “No replacement for Debuchy”
RMC Sports | rmcsport.fr | 04/07/2012
Mathieu Debuchy has not hidden his desire also to its officers. If the staff Lille is not opposed to a departure from principle, he must first find a replacement to the side, as explained by the Director General of the LOSC Frederic Paquet , called the “After” Tuesday. “For a player to leave, two conditions are necessary. First we have a replacement. Then see if the proposals are to live up to what is expected. For Matthew, it clearly has no substitute. We search. It is listening. We heard he wanted to leave. This is a child from home. But right as we speak, there was no replacement. We received a proposal, which was not up to par. “

All the other deals we are after will take a little longer I think cos we are very patient when it comes to signings. Nothing is signed until Ashley, Llambias & Carr feel the deal is %100 right for NUFC.

I heard that on monday that the medical was booked, also heard on very good authority (from a current premiership player) that it was for 2 players, one namely Junior Hoillet who has agreed a 5 year contract, not sure who other player is but heard wispers that its Twente’s full back Rosales.

63 nufc in europe // Jul 4, 2012 at 4:40 PM
Whilst i can understand people not being happy about us being very slow in the transfer market, i dont really see it as a bad thing.
First of all we signed Cabaye and Cisse without any rumours before hand. so we may just be doing this again so that other clubs don’t find out about our targets.
Also, I like the fact that the club does not panic and go in with a silly offer to get the player they want. It is obvious that we are looking at players but we will not be heald to ransom. Yes, at times this can be frustrating (luuk de jong) but in the long term it is going to help the club.
Keep calm and trust Carr

77 nufc in europe // Jul 4, 2012 at 5:05 PM
Current calculation method
After the 2006 FIFA World Cup, a revised calculation procedure for the FIFA rankings was introduced, with a significantly simplified procedure. The new rankings were compiled in response to criticism from the media.[2] Meetings were attended by FIFA staff and external experts and a large amount of research was conducted by this group, resulting in the new ranking system.[2] The new system was confirmed in Leipzig on 7 December 2005 by a committee of FIFA executives. Notable changes include the dropping of the home or away advantage and number of goals from the calculation, and the simplification of many aspects of the system.
The system, like the previous ones, is extremely similar to that of a league, though with changes made to ensure that it is still representative of the teams’ performance despite playing differing numbers of matches per annum, and the differing strength of opposition that teams have to face. The factors taken into account are as follows:
Match result
Match status
Opposition strength
Regional strength
Teams’ actual scores are a result of the average points gained over each calendar year; matches from the previous four years are considered, with more weight being given to recent ones.
[edit] Win, draw or defeatIn previous years a complicated system of points allocation was used, depending on how strong the opponent was, and how large the loss margin, which allowed weaker losing teams to gain points when playing a much stronger opposition, if they managed to put up a decent match. With the new system, the points allocation is simpler: three points for a win, one point for a draw, and zero points for a loss, in line with most league systems around the world.
In the event of a match being decided by a penalty shootout, the winning team receives two points, and the losing team one point.
Result Points
Win (no penalty shootout) 3
Win (penalty shootout) 2
Draw 1
Loss (penalty shootout) 1
Loss (no penalty shootout) 0
Taken from wiki, so could be wrong

Can be on to something. However, the Tagliafico kid might have work-permit issue. Player without that problem from their U-20:
Rodrigo Battaglia – Kaka like AM
Ezequiel Cirigliano – alternative Anita
Lucas Kruspzky – Santon Backup
Germán Pezzella – Perhaps Next Colo

I’m just thinking the bookies actually suspended betting on Sessesgnon joining Tottenham a couple of weeks ago and that seems very unlikely… I personally dont believe anything about this Hoilett deal, although I would f*cking love it to be true.. he would be perfect for us

Gameiro – £7million

Best – £3million

So Hughton is already getting things moving at Norwich, Grant Holt signs new deal and Jacob Butterfield signs. Not sure on Whittaker even if it is a free
Which makes me think of question, who do you think/want to get relegated?
I’m going with Wigan, West Ham and West Brom to go down. Although Villa would be lovely
119 Troleibusiukas_LTU // Jul 4, 2012 at 7:04 PM
i think it would be worth paying even 13M for guidetti and gameiro. 6M goes for…. debouchy, then 6 for central defender, and hoillet for free (if demba stays then guidetti OR gameiro). +yougsters like curtis good and gale bigirnami from coventry and luke james.

Not one to be a ‘neg’ or anything but just been looking at our in’s and out’s on the homepage and I’ve got to say I’m a little concerned that we currently have 6 out and 1 in. That puts us 5 down from lasts season “thin squad”. I have put that in quotation marks as Pardew himself said those very words last season.
Again not wanting to be doom and gloom but we have also more or less completely scrapped our reserve/development squad, so for me we need at least 8 players to boost our numbers.
127 geordie157 // Jul 4, 2012 at 7:14 PM
Just read a rumour that West Ham are looking at Boumsong!! Although it could be true with Allardyces love for players that are past their peak.
Not our worst french signing though, surely Stephane Guivarch will own that title. Another great bit of Dalglish business.

hah, wiki takes that a bit further on Guivarch

I keep trying to say the same thing. Yes, we’ve not renewed a fair few contracts and have a thin squad, but some reason, mostly injury I think, most of that list played very few games.

If we sign lots of players then we are in a weak bargaining position to sell. Look at the AC deal. We had no time to sign anyone so l’pool paid way over the odds to compensate us. It may be we need to wait for players to move out before any new signings are announced.
We are waiting for a few teams to come in for Simmo, possibly Williamson and other weaker players who we may have better replacements lined up for.
Be patient as I am certain everything is under control and deals may even be in place but we need to wait until selling clubs have a replacement or we sell the player they come in to replace.
However, thought we would have added to development squad by now although that area is not a priority. I am starting to think why wait for player to develop when u can pick up frees like Amalfitano or Abeid who are close to first team level. Or pay several million for Hoilett who by the way was excellent against us away in the league. We had to bring on perch at half time to double up on him with Simmo.
190 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 4, 2012 at 9:26 PM
Debuchy and Hoilett would be a nice starter. Then Anita, Vertonghen, Paul Scharner, a young striker and an attacking midfielder will follow.

He’s a quality young defender. Good size and strong build and has a very good football mind for such a young player. He has fantastic composure on the ball and a great ability to read the play. Only a matter of time before he plays for the senior national side after many appearances for the young socceroos. Wouldn’t surprise me if he was called into the senior Newcastle side this season. Reminds me of a young Jaap Stam”.

236 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 4, 2012 at 10:42 PM
Orr’s the worst out of that bunch and he’s still better than Simpson.
Bosingwa’s played for Portugal on numerous occasions. He is miles ahead of Simpson.
Boyce is better offensively and defensively than Simpson. He played a massive part in their success towards the end of the season. Did you actually see those 2 quality goals he scored in one game?
Simpson’s leaving next week.
237 Ben Arfa (Either love him or Hatem) // Jul 4, 2012 at 10:45 PM
Feel sorry for Simpson. He gave his all defensively and wanted a pay rise after such a good season. Can’t really hate him for that?

240 graham cwarr // Jul 4, 2012 at 10:48 PM
@kets orr is really not better. And if you’re judging bosingwa on that (and not current form/matches played etc.) then Michael Owen is better than cisse right now because he used to play for real Madrid at one point.
Boyce had a good run of form but i don’t think he’s better altogether.

244 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 4, 2012 at 10:51 PM
He doesn’t deserve it. If anything he should be taking a pay cut due to his poor performances. He’s definitely the second worst player in the team.
Goal line clearances? That’s nothing. He was at fault in too many of our crucial games (Arsenal, Wigan, Fulham, Spurs).
245 LGFUAD21 // Jul 4, 2012 at 10:51 PM
Said it before tons of times but I think Hoilett would be a real coup tbh. For free (not huge compensation). He is exactly what we need can play in so many positions, Would provide excellent service to strikers while also being able to get goals himself.
He’s very young too.
So strong on the ball (when he’s not diving, only negative IMO). Can tear players apart on his day.

249 graham cwarr // Jul 4, 2012 at 10:56 PM
How can you say goal line clearances are nothing? They stopped certain goals! In that case him being at fault for goals is nothing. See i just wrote off your argument in one sentence too
250 gfp13 // Jul 4, 2012 at 10:56 PM
I must disagree with kets that those right backs are better than Simpson. I’m not the biggest fan of him but bradley Orr? Emerson Boyce? Stearman? Bardsley? To name just the worse ones. Also the fact he has many caps for his country doesn’t prove anything. Maradona has a lot of caps but I’m pretty sure he’s past his best and the same goes for bosingwa and also Ferreira. When first signed for Chelsea they were among the best full backs in the league but not no more. I do though believe Simpson as our weak link and needs replacing if we are to go to next level but not by most of that list

I still only think we will sign three players for the first team; Good, Hoilett and Debuchy. We only need a 22-23 man size squad anyway.
…but we need to sign alot of youngsters competing for a first team spot

Blackburn signing a winger has no affect of hoilett going he has already left them so I wouldn’t look into that too much as they were simply finding a replacement for someone who has already left. But he could still be signed for us. I’m not saying he defo isn’t signing btw just clear that up

Hi guys. This is my first comment, been reading for a while and I’m addicted to it.
I heard from a very reliable source within the club that were prepared to pay up to £1m each for 17/18 year old kids that Carr thinks are future prospects in order to develop them. Maybe what all this south America business is about? The best players ever have come from there and Carr has a good eye for talent.

290 Zebras4Life // Jul 5, 2012 at 3:25 AM
I hate to even think this but if Tiote (£20M), Ba (£7M) & Simpson (£4M) leave. My figures come up w £20M from board for 1st team investment + roughly £27M from those 3 transfers and another £6M from the sales of Forster and Bestie. This gives us roughly £53M to throw at our 1st team. I propose we bring in Anita (£6M), Dejong (£12M) Hoilett, Toivenon (£6M), Debuchy (£7M), Douglas (£5M), Wanyama (£6M) & Castagnois or Guidetti (£6M) giving us approximately £5M left over to compensate for Hoiletts weekly fees and the fat controllers daily surf and turf lunchins. Looks just perfect to me!
291 Zebras4Life // Jul 5, 2012 at 3:28 AM
We could obviously keep Ba too with that proposal bc I only had us seeing roughly £3M from his transfer. For the record, I would not want to see him go.
292 Dondatta13 // Jul 5, 2012 at 3:38 AM
Got to keep the Tank bro. I wouldn’t sell for less than 30 Million GBP. We don’t need to sell, so if another so called big club want to cherry pick our best players then they should have to cough up a big fee…
Before anyone says we only paid x,y,z for so and so, I don’t care. Think of it like this, if you found a £20 note on the street (for free), would you accept £5 for it. No, I didn’t think so

295 89Norcal // Jul 5, 2012 at 4:22 AM
@Zebras that plan is definitely desirable as a fan, but even if we made those sells I wouldn’t see MA pulling it all out again in one summer. Besides the De Jong deal looks dead.
Benefit Newcastle have with our key players is their desire to stay with us, that’s a feature of such a spectacular season that can’t be denied.
296 Dondatta13 // Jul 5, 2012 at 4:25 AM
I hear what your saying Zeb but for me, BIDDING starts at £30Mil lol
297 89Norcal // Jul 5, 2012 at 4:48 AM
just did some refreshing on Argentine football. With the assumptions that they are scouting the Clausura, are looking for MF’s, and that youngsters would therefore be the 18-20 yo range, there’s Lucas Mugni at Sante Fe, Urruti from Newell’s, or Cirigliano from River Plate. All promising playmakers, though Argentina is packed full of them.
These are some of the elite youngsters, but due to Argentina’s limited ability to match wages from abroad, I could see Newcastle closing some of these guys.
