Tavernier Signs Three Year Deal – Gail Bigirimana To Sign Too

Great news for Newcastle fans today that 20 year-old James Tavernier has signed his new Newcastle contract, on his first day back to pre-season training.

James Tavernier – signs new deal at Newcastle

James tweeted the news about 15 minutes ago on his Twitter account:

“1st day back training and I’ve just signed my new contract with Newcastle #GreatDay

There has been a little bit of a worry recently that James may have wanted to move away from Newcastle, since his contract ran out last Sunday.

James is keen to taste first team football, and he may have left Newcastle in an attempt to get that first team football elsewhere, after he has played 50 games out on loan in the last eighteen months at Gateshead, Carlisle United, Sheffield Wednesday and MK Dons.

But it’s good news that one of Newcastle’s top youngsters has signed along the dotted line, on a three year deal, and presumably he will be ready to  fight it out to get into the Newcastle first team in the upcoming  season.

An alternative would be to send the lad out on a season long loan deal, maybe to a Championships club, but that’s for Alan Pardew to decide.

But this lad would be in great demand if he is allowed to go on loan for the coming season.  James has played a couple of times for the Newcastle first team, and while he usually plays at right back, he can also do a job at center-back.

James had this to say to the Newcastle press:

“The dream is to play in the first team at Newcastle United.” “It would be great feeling to play in Europe and really push on.”

“It shows the manager has faith in me and that is a massive thing for a young player.”

And there could be more good news as there are reports that top Coventry City youngster Gael Bigirimana will be signing on at Newcastle.

Gael Bigirimana – 18 year-old Coventry midfielder to sign for Newcastle

The 18 year-old is said to be the next Michael Essien, and the news was that Newcastle were leading the race for the all action central midfielder.

And it will be great if we’ve got this lad to agree to come to Newcastle, which is what the reports in Coventry are saying.

Comments welcome.

Chuffed about this, i have every faith that he’ll be a great future player for us. So looking forward to the upcoming season and seeing the likes of Tavernier, Abeid, Vuckic, Sammy, Fergy and possibly Dummet, Campbell and Streete too.

I see Talksport are quoting the Tiote to Gunners headline again. There really is nothing out there for journo’s to write about is there. Just recycling the same old speculative garbage.

G, Tiote is their replacement for RVP – Arsing Whinger still in shock from his left footed equalizer for 4-4 last year.

They gonna give us whatever RVP sells for – honest lol

sks ..agree great he has got new deal …we can keep him until simpson makes his mind up what he is doing….but ed dont agree about your and others comments saying he can cover at centre half ..he is only 5″ 9 ” .imagine he will go out on loan for experience depending on signings..

If Simpson goes, I’d keep Tav here on Tyneside. He’s 20 now and should be looking for 1st team chances here as back up for Debuchy (if we get him). Who better to show him the ropes. No?

Gael Bigirimana supposedly on his way to the Toon – spotted at the ground according to Twitter, and this has just gone up…

Good young player, but who knows.

outsidethebox – he played at CB for us in the Cup, albeit it only against Accrington, but put in a pretty solid performance. He can do a job there if we’re desperate but Colo, Saylor, Willo, Perch and hopefully a new CB would all obviously be before him at CB

@nufcfans are currently trying to track down Gael to see if there’s any truth to the story.
Will be interesting to see if they manage to get a reply.

    @GeordieRealist

He is number 1 on my most wanted young player list. Gael Bigirimana is going to be a beast! My second most wanted young target is Brahimi. Get them both in and we are set at MF with all our other youngsters.

I love all this Simpson to Reading stuff.

It seems to have been spread, simply after Guthrie answered the question “Danny Simpson is leaving Newcastle. Would you like him to join you?” 😐

I expect Gael to be a sort of backup to Tiote, and Abeid will move to back up Cabaye.
I think those are better similarites tbh.

Wow. Shocker, a certain person making a bad Simpson comment…..
Good news about tavernier signing. While he’ll be backup rb whether simmo leaves or not he seems to have a decent amount of potential.

Don’t know if anyone has already said something about this yet. Just seen it on Twitter.

UEFA spokesman – #NUFC play-off 1st leg could be changed to Tuesday 21st Aug, if our opponent agrees & written permission from national FAs.

As good ability and potential as the way over-hyped Clyne. If Clyne can become England’s future RB, so can this kid.

Such a long time ago since I saw Tavernier play and then only once.
Everyone seems to rate him and if he got a new contract after such a radical clear-out, then he must be a prospect.

    Good news.

Lets not forget that with a good full pre-season under his belt, Gosling could step up this season.

Great news on Tav, he should get some first team games this season. Just waiting for Ketsbaia to confirm Debuchy deal will happen tomorrow and that’s right back sorted. Centre Back, 2 strikers and DM next …

I had a scary thought early, that if we don’t sign a striker, then either Xisco or Ranger could see some match time. I’m not sure which i’d prefer!

Ranger!! After Xisco’s fake injury stunt, I haven’t time for him. Off the books in a year, thanks Mr Wise. (We’ll never sell him).
