Great news for Newcastle fans today that 20 year-old James Tavernier has signed his new Newcastle contract, on his first day back to pre-season training.
James Tavernier – signs new deal at Newcastle
James tweeted the news about 15 minutes ago on his Twitter account:
“1st day back training and I’ve just signed my new contract with Newcastle
#GreatDay“
There has been a little bit of a worry recently that James may have wanted to move away from Newcastle, since his contract ran out last Sunday.
James is keen to taste first team football, and he may have left Newcastle in an attempt to get that first team football elsewhere, after he has played 50 games out on loan in the last eighteen months at Gateshead, Carlisle United, Sheffield Wednesday and MK Dons.
But it’s good news that one of Newcastle’s top youngsters has signed along the dotted line, on a three year deal, and presumably he will be ready to fight it out to get into the Newcastle first team in the upcoming season.
An alternative would be to send the lad out on a season long loan deal, maybe to a Championships club, but that’s for Alan Pardew to decide.
But this lad would be in great demand if he is allowed to go on loan for the coming season. James has played a couple of times for the Newcastle first team, and while he usually plays at right back, he can also do a job at center-back.
James had this to say to the Newcastle press:
“The dream is to play in the first team at Newcastle United.” “It would be great feeling to play in Europe and really push on.”
“It shows the manager has faith in me and that is a massive thing for a young player.”
And there could be more good news as there are reports that top Coventry City youngster Gael Bigirimana will be signing on at Newcastle.
Gael Bigirimana – 18 year-old Coventry midfielder to sign for Newcastle
The 18 year-old is said to be the next Michael Essien, and the news was that Newcastle were leading the race for the all action central midfielder.
And it will be great if we’ve got this lad to agree to come to Newcastle, which is what the reports in Coventry are saying.

Comment #282I think zlatan has a slight attitude problem but in terms of ability he’s great. I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves from some people, especially English. He does have shakeup games against English teams in champions league most of the time but messi hasn’t scored against an English team in his career. Zlatan is the worlds most expensive footballer ever and has won 9 league titles in the last 10 years, juve spoiled the run this year. He has had a very good career and has scored at every team he played for. Look at his CV, you don’t get signed for those clubs if you aren’t a good player

Regularly, When players contracts run out, and they aint in high demand from other clubs, The club allow these players to train in pre season, unpaid, to keep there fitness levels up. they have a much better chance of getting a new team this way. Id imagine this was the reason for sol campbells beer belly when he first signed for us!
