Pardew – We Are Working To Bring Two Players In

We really like the way Newcastle United go about their business in the transfer market, and stick to their guns, and will not pay over the odds for any player.

Alan Pardew – back to pre-season this morning

And yes, we know that can be really frustrating for fans when maybe another £1M or £2M could get the deal done, but by Newcastle sticking to their guns and not caving in, they will be building a reputation that their final offer for players is exactly that, and that should be good for the club long term.

Alan will be back to pre-season this morning with most of the players due back at Benton, and Newcastle have only one new face in their ranks – French 22 year-old winger Romain Amalfitano.

That compares to last year at this time when we had Mehdi Abeid, Yohan Cabaye, Sylvain Marveaux and Demba Ba as the news faces.

Newcastle have offers in for Luuk de Jong, Douglas and Mathieu Debuchy, and Newcastle are expected to get the last two, with seemingly little hope of getting the 21 year-old Dutch striker, although Newcastle’s latest bid of around £11M, has neither been accepted nor rejected by FC Twente.

That’s because the Dutch club are waiting for better offers coming in, which may or may not happen.

Alan Pardew appeared calm and collected as usual  this morning,  as he said this to the local Newcastle press corps:

“We’re working on a few things.” “I know this time last year we’d brought in a couple of players, but we’re very much in the market at the moment.” “We’re planning to bring in a couple of players, for sure.”

And Demba Ba is back at the training center, and we expect Alan Pardew to take the 27 year-old striker to one side today, and ask him what he wants to do, and if he wants to stay at Newcastle, or whether he’s looking to move via the £7M release clause in his contract, that’s active through this month.

Newcastle’s other known target is 23 year-old Vurnon Anita, whose club Ajax turned down the Magpies’ first offer of £5M for him, but that deal could still happen, and it seems Ajax are even anxious that Newcastle come back in with a better offer.

Although there was news yesterday that Sunderland are also interested in the player.

Glad we don’t get held to ransom over transfers any more anyway. Would hate to be like City or Chelsea, who just throw mountains of cash at teams till they simply buy the best squads. Makes them only paper champions in my opinion, and I have very little respect for that. Would much rather be savvy in the maket, and balance the books.

If we only bring in 2 players, its going to be a tough season if we start well in Europe and Domestic Cups – not to mention the All Important League campaign!!!

I’m hoping that Pardew is being coy when he says ‘a couple’. Two new players isn’t enough. We still need a CB, FB, CM, winger and striker. And that’s if we don’t sell anyone.

I’m glad we don;t get held to ransom but I was really hoping the de Jong deal would happen. He’d be a great asset to us. Again, hopefully Pards is being coy there and not revealing the whole picture just yet – maybe a deal is still on the cards….

G @ 1 – Respect or ‘balancing the books’ doesn’t go down in the record books but ‘paper champions’ do.
Do you think your grandchildren would appreciate, in many years to come, that the the Toon was fiscally prudent, but won nowt when their grandfather was supporting the club at this time?

20 million pounds to spend… if that’s the case we need a top striker… proven stiker if cisse gets injured.. touch would and the AFCON ….. unless Shola Ameobi scores 10-15 goals. and if we keep Demba we in the same situation

in all honesty we could have a world class lb for free in boenisch rather than pay millions for debuchy and maybe spend his money on something a bit more value for money !
i know debouchy is awsome but boenisch is just as good.
and in the case of de jong im thinking maiga at 5mil may make a lot more in the future than some one who already costs 11mil and is still untested in the prem.
oh and er douglas is world class out of all of the three he would be my have to have him

If they are going to take a striker from us, it is more likely tp be Ba as Winger has expressed interest in him in the past. If I have to lose one of them it would be Ba.

Bit hypocritical there. No one minded paying a world record figure for 15M. No one said we were trying to buy success then, but of course we were.

I think he means 2 by the end of the week. After already losing Best, Lovenkrands and Guthrie, we’ll need at least 6 new players for the first team squad with about another 10 players going into the development squad.

We have bid for 4 players, so I hope we’ll sign at least 6 by the end of the window.

My pal is a guitarist in a band. He’s most unassuming when he’s not kicking ass on stage. When I hear people ask him if he knows many songs he always replies “yeah I know one or two”. When the fact is this guy is like a jukebox!

So I think it’s Pardews way of being coy when he says “One or two”

Well I hope so anyway 🙂

@16 Wynsleap. Do you think your grandchildren in many years to come would appreciate, that it was people like their grandfather who wanted NUFC to spend money that we didn’t have, got into administration, then went bust, and had to start again as Newco in the Blue square premier league? Ohhhh… that would never happen would it? Glasgow Rangers RIP!

LooneyToon – Bit of an over reaction there mate.
Who said that I was advocating spending millions more than necessary and willing to sacrifice the club as such?
I was responding to a typical fan who thinks balancing the books is better than winning something. A little prudent investment can bring great dividends. Yes it may not be macho to ashamedly go that extra £1-2 million when pushed, but if the scouting staff are confident it should be done (ie in De Jong’s case) it would hardly break the bank (seeing as our finances, we are told, are so wonderfully under control at present).
Like many people on here you obviously only ever see the two extremes – spend or bust – without the acknowledgement of sensible transfer dealings (ie if you really want De Jong – spend a little less on someone else). It’s not rocket science.

Yeah, we should go for Cissokho instead of Debuchy and put the extra £1-2m on Luuk De Jong. I expect Anita to sign. God knows which centre back we’ll get.

wynsleap @ 16 – How much did Fat Freddy spend? And we won F.ALL.

You go on as if winning nowt under Ashley is something new. In three years since relegation he’s got promotion and got us into Europe. Let’s not forget we’ve won nowt since the Fairs Cup in 1969 and nowt domestically since the FA Cup in 1955.

It took Man City four years and £300M in transfer fees and God knows what in wages to win the Prem in the last minute of the season. Give Ashley a chance eh?

wynsleap @ 32 – just seen that post. You don’t make sense. Now your saying be ambitious by spending less on this player and more on that one. Isn’t that how we got Cisse for £9M, by getting Ba on a free?

Ashley is already doing what your advocating so give him so credit instead of constantly sniping away.

Well looks like this just confirmed my thoughts of Ba’s release clause. At the price of £7M it’s effectively his choice whether he wants to stay and be a main man or plop right next to berbatov on the bench. At £7M he’s worth it to turn down and interested buyers.
