Hoilett Prices Himself Out Of A Deal At Newcastle

Newcastle have been interested in the 22 year-old for over a year now, and he became a free agent last Sunday.

Junior Hoilett – wage demands scare off the Magpies

Blackburn’s Canadian winger Junior Hoilett has refused to sign a new contract at Blackburn for a year now, and it seems that he is no longer on Newcastle’s radar screen either.

The Evening Chronicle is reporting this morning that Newcastle have been put off by the youngster’s wage demands, which are said to be around £50K/week, and it’s a case of once bitten twice shy with Newcastle.

While Hoilett looks like a very good player in the making,  asking for as much as £50K/week at just 22 is asking a bit much, and maybe he can get that wage at some other club, but not at the Magpies.

Not these days anyway.

Newcastle are still smarting form having to pay Xisco £50K/week over the last four years, with the former Spanish U21 striker turning out to be nowhere near good enough to play in the Premier League,

And add to that the £5.7M transfer fee and it was a bad deal for the Magpies, who may well have to pay out the last year of the lad’s contract, since he’s unlikely to want to be transferred this summer, even though Newcastle will once again try to unload him.

Hoilett looks a better player than Xisco, but Mike Ashley and company have shown they will pay out big bucks, but only to players who have proved their worth at Newcastle – like Coloccini, Gutierrez and Krul, to name three examples.

It’s a pity with Hoilett, but it seems Newcastle have passed up the chance to sign the 22 year-old,  and he would probably cost  around £5M in compensation too.

Think it’s time to remove Best from the banner at the top of the page.

Or do we wait until the end of the transfer window?

Hoiletts loss, other ‘better’ (cough) don’t really need him that are on europe so only a move to the continent if he wants european football unless brendans bindippers change their mind.

Thats if the chronic is correct.

he would be worth the 50k considering we’d get him for a small compo fee. Especially since we’ve just lost Smiths 60k off the wage bill. Proven Premiership player and lots of potential to improve

Long time reader only 2nd time poster, don’t post to often, just posting to say I’ve just got a text to say Debuchy had his blood taken at the freeman yesterday (alledgedly) my dads mates wife (sounds daft I know) is a nurse and said she took his blood, believe if you wish, just thought it was a bit of news :p

Mackas….Best bit of info I’ve ever heard. My Dad’s mates wife is a nurse and took his blood! Brilliant. Hope it’s true and that she left him with enough to hold up a black and white shirt for his picture 🙂

Hoilett looks good, but if he wants £50K then we are right to pass him by. Lets face it, it was probably very easy for him to look good at a very poor Blackburn last season. Compared to what we already have he would probably only have come in as back up or rotation anyway. Much better value for money on the continent as G.Carr keeps proving.

Giving a young player like Hoilett 50K straight away, when he has potential to still improve, but getting a wagepacket reflecting a top 28 year old at this club?
    Poor, poor, poor business.

My father’s other son who’s actually not related to me but went for a babysitting class together also told me that the blood that your dad’s mate’s wife took was sent to Indonesia for a voodoo hocus pocus which he’ll then sign for us.

Just because he has potential to improve doesnt mean he isnt already playing at a high level. His performances and goal last season proved he is worth it. 50k is hardly big bucks in this day and age. Wether your 22 or 28, makes absolutely no difference to what you are worth in wages, and to suggest it does is quite silly. Your wages should reflect your talent and ability and his ability makes him worth 50k IMO

Great exciting young talent, never put that sort of player on 50k a week, his head will get into the clouds, and he’l start thinking he’s god’s gift to football. Would love to sign him up on about 30k a week, the pace of him and Arfa with Cisse or Ba playing off them would be terrifying

Good move to not give him £50K it sets a dangerous president to future and current players. If he’s on more than say Tiote, Arfa etc they’ll be knocking on the door asking for a wage hike. I’d take him for £40k but no more.

Giving Hoilett 50k will unsettle other players like Colo and Tiote who had to work hard and earn the amount they’re earning at the moment. I rather Hoilett fly his kite elsewhere.

Nick69…..I’m sure he’s “worth” £50k a week to some clubs, but it just doesn’t seem to be the way we go about things anymore.

It’s no longer just about the player, but the moral of the whole team and making sure players sign for the right reasons, as in footballing reasons, not just the most money.

He is a talented lad and has clearly proved he can cut it in the PL. I would “guess” this is more of a case that we’re not interested in his attitude.

My mates friends sisters haridresser knows a lad who used to be a taxi driver at Newcastle Airport and one of his friends mates’ dad picked up Debuchy from the airport and took him directly to the Freeman.

    So it’s true.

30-40K max I would say. We have a history of reviewing contracts depending on performance after a relatively short time. So he could start at say 35k and upon review (and consistent high performances) hike the wage then. Worked with Mr T and others im sure. If the lad is that confident in his ability to deliver at the toon then he should be willing to accept a lower initial wage with a view to a better contract in the future.

Also i am only reading good stuff about Bili (Cheik Tiote Jr) and think this is a heck of a coup by Pards, Carr and co.

    Rotonda last thread

I believe the reported figure was £50k/week for Cabaye.

From all reports that seems to be our Pay rate for new first team signings. Demba is on something like £35k/week but with add ons it basically meets £50k/week.

To be honest, we should have the pulling power to get Hoillet considering we’re ‘officially’ the 5th best club in England, however he is also good enough to have Chelsea, Arsenal etc looking at him, and it seems to me this guy wants a big payday. Quiet sad really when riches overtake ambition, but he’s young and can only get better, seems an honest and nice lad so best of luck to him, but 50k no thanks.

What kind of reaction would that make?

If this is true it is to big of an oppurtunity missed by Toon in my opinion! the fact that this lad constantly looked dangerous and creative in a poor Blackburn team speaks out to me more than anything!

As someone has already said, offer the lad 40k + potential increase after first year appearance based etc…

no more Smiths 60k wage and im sure Lovenkrands and Guthrie were both on a very decent wage also! well worth the risk!

either than or Mackems will pay out for him…. much like they did with Sessegnon which payed off for them in the end :O

Seems like we should try and negotiate over the 50k, this guys world class potential and it would massively increase competition for places. Best is getting 40k at Blackburn, surely we should give 40k plus some performance related bonuses to this future star.

Gutte if he doesnt sign, him on he left, HBA right and Cisse up top, perfect front 3 for next season.

50k is a lot but i agree its more about keeping the peace with the rest of the squad than the actual amount.

The way we are being run is the right way I think but we may need to push the boat out a little to move to the next level if we really want to be top 4 contenders on a regular basis.
