Magpies Make Move For John Guidetti – Video

Sky Sports is reporting that Newcastle United have joined the race for Manchester City’s top 20 year-old striker John Guidetti.

John Guidetti – Man City’s 20 year-old Swedish striker

And apparently Sunderland are also interested in the young striker, along with top European clubs like Inter Milan, Lazio, Fiorentina, Sevilla and Borussia Monchengladbach (them again).

With Newcastle’s bid for Luuk de Jong up in the air, and with Borussia Monchengladbach having held meetings with FC Twente only yesterday, it is thought that Newcastle are giving up the chase for the 21 year-old youngster, and have turned to other striker targets.

However,  the Dutch club still haven’t said yes or no to Newcastle’s latest offer, which is though to be around £11M up front in cool cash – Newcastle’s biggest ever offer since Mike Ashley arrived at Newcastle five years ago.

The 20-year-old Guidetti spent all of last season on loan in Holland with Feyenoord, where he scored 20 goals and 8 assists in just 23 games for the Dutch side, and looked a great player in the making.

Guidetti wants first team football next season, and he has made it clear he is prepared to leave Manchester City to get it, if there is no playing time for him at the Etihad Stadium.

And with news that City may be targeting Robin van Persie from Arsenal this summer, there’s probably little chance for him to get much first team playing time at Manchester next season.

Feyenoord would just love to keep him in Holland for another season on loan, but with so many top clubs after the player, that would appear unlikely.

But it may be an opportune time for Newcastle to bring in a top youngster, with the Magpies three other strikers  – Papiss Cisse (26), Demba Ba (27) and Shola Ameobi (30) – all 26 years old or older.

John Guidetti will return to Manchester City for pre-season training, but he is expected to leave the club this summer, and it’s more likely to be a permanent move.

Newcastle will face some tough competition from other clubs around Europe for his signature, no doubt about that, but this lad could be brought in for less that Luuk de Jong would cost, in terms of both the transfer fee and the wages.

He’s a little younger than Luuk de Jong and without the same level of experience,  so he would be a greater risk – but he looks a top young striker, and his acquisiton would soften the blow of not be able to bring de Jong to Tyneside.

It seems that Newcastle have made Guidetti a target, if the news is to be believed, but they also have some other options such as Inter-Milan’s 19 year Dutch striker Luc Castaignos, who moved from Feyenoord to Inter Milan last summer, but is now also looking to get more first team experience next season.

And there is also Ola Toivenon of PSV, but the 26 year-old Swede may be too old, given the age of the strikers already at Newcastle.

It would be good news indeed f Newcastle are in for John Guidetti, and it would be terrific news if Newcastle can get him signed up.

Here’s some video of the rising young star.

If we can get this lad and that 19 yr old Costaignos fella, for a similar price then Luuk De jong, I’d be happy. Two players with great potential, especially with Ba staying now.

Great news on Curtis and Gael as well. Hopefully Debuchy will be coming in soon.

    @Indian

because Mackem are a shite club?
If he comes here, he may not be gaurenteed first team football in the BPL, but I can definetily see him getting a couple of games, especially during January. Also he could be a regular in Europe if we decide to Rest Ba/Cisse etc. He will definetily have more chances here then at Man City.

This is actually really exciting! If we end up with Curtis Good, Guidetti, bigrama, wijnaldum and debuchy and hoilette I would be more then satisfied! Were building up a great academy, maybe were starting to follow the barcelona blueprint, and let our players of the future grow up together. Either way in all honesty I think we need 2 first team players and the rest top top youngsters, and you could argue that we need depth and more players, but I believe that some of the youngsters we have are more then capable of backing up the first team, and they will be better for it too!

He reminds me of a young Mr Shearer and would be a very good signing. I’d much prefer that we chase a youngster like this than pay ott for De Jong because if De Jong was worth the money MU, City or Chelsea would have already had him in the bag.

Hoilett would be another player I’d sign as well as a CB and RB. In midfield we have enough cover with both Gosling and Abied waiting in the ranks.

Good eye for goal, nice placement, plenty of power, looks like a genuine talent, this guy. High energy too, seems like he can give us some desperately needed pace up front as well. Can’t wait to see him in action.

Wish we had gone in for Bas Dost. Might of not been the fastest but his positioning, movement, and finishing is top notch.

Here in Moscow, I’m mates with a Dutch guy who supports Feyenoord. He really does know lots about the Eredivisie (well, compared to me, anyway!), and I’m constantly plugging him for intelligence reports on the players we’ve been linked with this summer.

He said that De Jong would be a brilliant signing for us, but he said, even before these recent reports about Guidetti that Guidetti was the better bet.

I wonder, though, whether this is genuine or just the papers doing some simple maths? You know: “Newcastle are interested in a young striker; Newcastle have been scouting in the Netherlands; John Guidetti is a young, talented striker who played last season in the Netherlands; John Guidetti wants to change clubs to get first team football; therefore….”

Anyway, if we could get this lad, it would be a tremendous buy, by all accounts.

@Jackson1989 Feyenoord finished 2nd last year 4 places and 10 points above Twente, so I hardly think you can say De Jong played for the better team last season.

To be fair Feyenoord finished above Twente despite De Jong scoring 25 goals.
Guidetti has a very high opinion on himself and would demand high wages as soon as he scores a few goals. He isn’t the brightest in the bunch either. He got a red card in an important game this season after scoring a penalty he didn’t cause and then taking off his shirt despite a previous yellow card.
