Newcastle Offer Still Not Enough For French International

French club Lille have said again that they will not sell their top right back Mathieu Debuchy until two conditions are met, and it seems neither of those conditions have yet been met.

Mathieu Debuchy – would fit right in at Newcastle

Mathieu will be returning from his holidays at the end of the week, and it is expected he will tell his club not only that he wants to leave to join the Premier League, but that he wants to join Newcastle United.

Mathieu is best friends with Newcastle’s top French midfielder Yohan Cabaye and it seems that Yohan has done a very good job in convincing Mathieu that Newcastle is the place to be.

And that’s hardly surprising since Yohan’s career has taken off since he arrived at Newcastle just over a year ago, and not only is he now a France regular, but he was probably their best player during Euro 2012.

The 26 year-old thinks now is the time for him to move on from the only club he has ever played for. but Lille’s Assistant Director General Frederic Paquet says there are still two conditions to be met:

“For a player to leave, there are two conditions which have to be met.”  “First, we need to have a replacement. Then we will see if the offer lives up to what we expect.”

“Mathieu clearly has no substitute, although we are looking. We have heard that he wants to leave, but as we speak there is no replacement.”  “We have received an offer, but it was not what we are looking for.”

We are hoping Newcastle can seal the deal with Debuchy in the near future, but they may have to cough up a little more than the 6M we are supposed to have bid for the 9 times capped French International.

Seeing Debuchy perform so well for France in Europe seems to suggest that this lad can fit straight into the Newcastle side for next season, and he could be another excellent buy for Newcastle, if only we can meet the fee requested by Lille.

What do you think?

Lille just don’t want to sell for cheap because of what happened to Cabaye

No! No! Don’t offer them any more than we’ve offered already. It will mean we could go bust, go into administration and be like Rangers.
Sorry I’m stressing this sarcastic point again.
It’s the last time I’ll mention it. Promise.
On another point – chuffed with the Gael Bigiramana signing. Could be a great one for the near future.
Hope there’s a few more to come. Would like to see Guidetti in next.

Won’t be worried until August. Mind you I am worried as we have let players go before signing. Guthrie would have been a great standin for Cabaye in the Cup runs and Best was made for January whilst the goalscorers were at AFC. Trust the manager and board, however the weeks leading up to the start will go fast.

    howay the lads

For goodness sake! The lads a world class player!! Really don’t think the fee will be too huge and look at what we raked in last season!£££££££ Just pay the bloody money, get the lad in and be done with it!!

There is always the possibility that they will wait for him to ask for a transfer so that they don’t have to pay him anything from the selling fee.
I’d like to see him here at the right price! I trust we are also looking at other options Aly Cissokho appeals greatly , and is younger.

Old news Ed I read those comments days ago.

This kid from Coventry looks like Tiote’s double, could he be a lost brother of his? Just kidding but seriously I love the buzz I get after a new signing and especially these days as now we do extensive research on all attributes on every player we are after.

He looks a steal at that price especially reading all the praise the lad has received after the move.

Debuchy will be sorted late next week or the following Monday I think.

He is already 26, the club wont hold him for too long. The more he ages, the less value they will get..the club got to sell him at his perk.

Thats the one reason the club wont release him. Its the money prob.

I find it hilarious that we’ve got the nerve to try and swipe up a player for 6M from a club we’ve already made over on with Cabaye. Not saying Debuchy deserves a huge transfer sum, but you gotta like Newcastle’s policy. I think Lille, like Twente, will be a little more resilient now.

Completely agree Norcal. The clever trevor stuff doesnt work for long, and other Directors out there are no mugs, and Ashley is no genius. Eventually you have to pay up or sod off. Hence we didnt get de Jong, because we refused to pay what the selling club valued him at . Two can play the game. If we want Debuchy, a move that will clearly improve out team, then pay the 7 or 8 mill that he is worth. End of.

Munster Mag @ 17 – Totally agree. If you want something really bad enough go and get it. Cut your cloth elsewhere to pay for it if you have to.
