Newcastle brought in 18 year-old Gael Bigirimana from Coventry yesterday for a fee believed to rise to £1M, and it looks a good signing by Newcastle, for a top young holding midfielder who used to play center-back, and maybe the next player through the door will be French right-back Mathieu Debuchy?
Mathieu Debuchy – top Newcastle full back target
Mathieu has been off for a little break since he finished playing for France in the Euro 2012 tournament, when the Les Bleus were defeated 2-0 in the quarter finals by eventual winners Spain.
And the news is that Mathieu will meet with Lille officials over the weekend, in an attempt to get his future sorted out.
We’ve been told, via the news in the papers, that Newcastle have so far lodged two bids, the first one for £4M and the second one for £6M, but we wonder if that second bid has actually been made?
And some news suggest that Lille want £6M for their star right back, who has played well for the French club for the past eight seasons, and has been a loyal and good player for them.
Because of that, it is thought that Lille may not haggle with the transfer fee – well not too much anyway – and we think £6M would still be a good deal for Newcastle.
But if Lille follow the lead of FC Twente, and ask for silly money for their player, then Newcastle may well pull out of this deal too.
And we cannot help but think that both clubs have already been on the short end of the stick with Newcastle in the transfer market – Twente lost Cheick Tiote for £3.5M two years ago, and Newcastle got top midfielder Yohan Cabe for just over £4M from Lille last summer.
So that’s one reason both selling clubs will try to get a much out of Newcastle as they can, but it seems that Debuchy is very keen to join his friend Yohan Cabaye on Tyenside, and that should help a lot.
We hope that the deal can be signed, sealed and delivered – and the sooner the better.
