Gael Bigirimana signed on at Newcastle for five years yesterday, and Alan Pardew has talked about the 18 year-old who Newcastle tracked all last season, and we beat some big clubs to bring the youngster to Newcastle.
Gael Bigirimana – at the Benton training grounds yesterday
But Newcastle are showing they have one of the best scouting networks in the Premier League at the moment, and seem to do a really thorough job of tracking down first team targets, as well as those for the Development squad, which Gael will initially be part of.
But he may not be part of the Development squad for too long, as the Newcastle manager thinks he will be threatening first team players’ positions quite soon.
This is what Alan Pardew told the Shields Gazette today:
“He’s a young player, but he’s already had experience in the Coventry first team,” “Gael coming to us is a big step up in class, but he’s got that potential. He’s got great energy, and great technical ability.”
“And sometimes I’d rather take a player who has the potential and the experience than somebody who has no experience at all.” “This is a guy who is armed to threaten the players we have in our first team at the moment.”
“As we have shown before, it doesn’t affect us where players come from.” “We might sign a player from Barnet or Manchester United – as long as they are the right type of player.”
Bigirimana becomes the club’s second summer signing, and will cost anywhere between £500K to £1M, and follows Romain Amalfitano to Tyneside.
But we think if Gael’s a success then Coventry City will get the full £1M, and it certainly will have been a good deal for Newcastle, with Coventry fans not too happy that he went for so low a fee.
And it seems the next Development player through the door will be Melbourne Heart center-back Curtis Good, but he’s currently on tour with his club and is expected to sign in about 8 days time – that’s according to the Evening Chronicle.
It shows that Newcastle will look anywhere for the right player, as Alan says in his statement.
Curtis would also be a good signing for Newcastle (couldn’t resist that one), with the fee being reported as low as £450K.
