Board Must Keep Best Players On Tyneside – Yohan Cabaye

Demba Ba, the Senegal striker had a very good season for Newcastle after signing on as a free agent last June, and he scored a good 16 goals for Newcastle in the first part of the season, and that helped Newcastle finish in 5th position in the Premier League, and qualify for the Europa League.

Yohan Cabaye – with French squad earlier this summer

It’s true that when Papiss Cisse, his Senegal striker partner, joined Newcastle last January for  £8M from German club SC Freiburg, the goals from Ba dried up, but some of that was that Alan Pardew went to a 4-4-3 formation and had Demba  Ba playing out on the left wing.

And while he didn’t score any more goals, he still played well, and helped Papiss get his amazing 13 goals in his first 14 appearances for Newcastle.

Most Newcastle fans would be keen to see Demba  Ba stay, and not execute that £7M release clause he has in his contract, but that’s only true if Ba himself wants to stay on Tyneside.

Yohan Cabaye has become a top player in Europe since arriving from Lille last June for just €5M, and he has spoken out today, and said that Newcastle must keep their top players on Tyneside this summer.

This is what Yohan told the Sun today:

“Demba scored many goals for us so it’s going to be important to keep him — and keep all the big players.” “I hope the board are going to do the right things to keep them.”

“I don’t know if we can go higher than last season, but we have to keep doing the right thing.”

Yohan Cabaye has become a huge player for Newcastle in our  engine room, along with Ivorian Cheick Tiote, who cost only £3.5M from FC Twente two years ago, and we share Yohan’s views keeping our best players this summer.

But it’s also up to Demba Ba to commit himself to Newcastle, and we should hear something shortly about his situation, because Alan Pardew will be talking to the 27 year-old about his intentions, now that pre-season training has started up.

Demba Ba – we hope he stays – and wants to

And we did have a tweet from Demba on July 3rd from his Twitter account, which reminded us all these stories about him were only runors:

“Holla back everybody. So much stuff about me lately. Rumours are rumours! Just forget about it. By the way i had the best holiday ever!!”

We hope that Demba Ba will come out and say he wants to stay at Newcastle – officially – but we’re still not sure what he really wants to do.

What do you think?

Won’t be so easy to keep him Cabs, he’s got a clause in his contract.
    Hopefully he stays tho.

Hope he stays at least til we can get better money for him if he does eventually wanna go.
Cabaye is right though in that we need to keep our best players unless we have an equally good replacement
Graham Carr will find a gem or two

I don’t want him to leave but he really doesn’t want to play on the left, he wants to be the main man up front but it just so happens that Cissé is more of an instinctive deadly finisher than Ba and Cissé is always going to be Pardews pick to be up front in my opinion.

You are stating the obvious there Yohan.
IF we do keep our best players and add just 2 or 3 then we should have a really good season, and thats stating the obvious too.
Its simple really, keep our team together and we,ll carry on where we left off.

we are building the foundation of something very big at Newcastle. Mike and his cronies made many big errors in their early days in charge, but he wants to make money first and foremost, he has no emotional ties to the club, just his purse-strings. So there is only two ways; 1. Buy players in cheap, and sell high, or as we’ve seen, Very high, Carr brings in the cheaper replacement and were stronger for it. 2. champions league – spend big to maybe make it big.
and as much as i canne believe im writing this, but i’ll take the first option any day.
We’ve havn’t performed as well as last season in a long time, and to be building from the ‘Development Squad’ is such a welcome change to the ‘big name’ signings that we used to hold out for.
signings will come, team will improve and we’ll be a true Team measured as greater than their sum of parts

Replaceable if we are honest, pre-cisse he had a stronger hand to negotiate a better contract with us to stay but Cisse has meant that we no longer rely on him to score.

Would like him to stay, continuity is a good thing, but like iv said before, not as a left winger, only as reserve for cisse.

We neeeeeeeeed flair players, 1 for left wing and at least 1 reserve for rotation. I pray marveaux stays fit but time will tell…..

Ashley has made mistakes, but I haven’t seen him taking money out of the club on the contrarary.

Sometimes it is good there is no emotions evolved. Emotions tends to get in the way as times.

I for one are happy about the way we are going forward. Keep up the good work.

We all know we should keep our best players, my concern is if one big name leaves it paves the way for unrest and a similar senario to Enrique.
I would love for the club to say nobody leaves unless they want to, regardless of what money has being offered. We have massive potential to be challenging every season, this stepping stone mentality pisses everyone off???

If we are being realistic which we should be. I think a top 6 finish a cup run and qualifying for the Europa league again would be an outstanding season. It’s all about the team surprising them selves and seeing how far we can go. With the players we have if we don’t qualify for the champions league in the next couple of seasons. The top players will want to leave or top clubs will want to buy them, we have world class players that can get into just about any top team. I’m not being negative, just trying to be realistic.

If we finish sixth we need to get into the quatre finals at least of the europa league and maybe the semis of the F.A or carling cup but we need to keep the spine of our team, krul, colo, cabaye, tiote, cisse

i don’t agree with Cabaye. Its ok to sell our best players. But not all at 1 go. selling 1 top player per season is ok, provided the money is reinvested into the team with suitable replacement. This season i’m ok with selling Ba.

As long as we get a player on the cheap who has the experience and ability to play as good as Ba when the season starts.

Though we don’t like saying it, Newcastle and Arsenal have a decent relationship with each other – Cabaye telling Hazard to join Arsenal; and now Pires returning the favour with Debuchy. IMO they’re much better than Spuds.

    Regarding Anita,
Drive the price up so the Mackems have to pay more; I’m not really a fan of him but at that price you can get players like Matuidi who are more proven.

If a club puts a bid in for Ba, it is Ba’s choice as to whether he goes or not. If as some may think he has come to put himself in the shop window, with a view tto increasing his profile and salary, he has done the first part and that then will leave the club to provide a package with sufficient incentive and ambition to make him stay.

One thing is for certain is that the club will not be held to ransom so if Ba is after a big pay off to stay, his options will be limited.

Although I would like to see him stay, I feel that he is not the ideal partner for Cisse. Don’t get me wrong he is a fantastic CF however somebody like Hoilett who can drift in and out and cross the ball in addition to scoring goals may be a better option should Ba want to leave.

I’m not sure how many people have seen clips of Romain Amalfitano however if he can play to PL standard he could be one player who fits the bill as he seems to be very similar to HBA but seems to be a better team player.

Either way we have a very exciting season ahead.

jesperfuglsang & Toon_Down Ashley is getting something from the club £30m worth of free advertisements for his business, the thing is the better we do the more value he get in his promotion of his company, and now it will be around Europe too, his next step is champions league. this is what he gets and i can live with that, no one does anything without a purpose.

I am happy with Ba on the left of a 4-3-3. His hold up play is great and he is good at turning around with the bold.

Wide men doesn’t have to operate as winger but can be deployed as inside forwards. Ba will be great at that and he can switch position with Papisto.

HBA on the other hand can roam freely inside if Cabaye doesn’t close the space which was the problem France had with Nasri – God he was awfull.

I wouldn’t mind Hoilett though it would give us options 🙂

Yohan my son we all want our better players staying with us, lets not forget they get their eyes opened if their agent gets offers remember andy carroll and the bigger picture! i say stick to your football and dont start laying the law down to the owner or YOU might get SMACK ON THE ARSE, i have alot of time for you as a player and you seem like a nice kid but concentrate on playing football and let the people who run the club RUN IT.

Ben Arfa @ 23 – you’re right about Arsenal – good club with a good manager and a good playing philosophy. Don’t chuck money at the market like confetti (as in Chelsea, Manure and Citeh), try to bring players through for their excellent youth policy and don’t have a bunch of smug, arrogant fans like Man U and especially Liverpool.
I also have to agree with Beefman @ 30 – the powers that be at the Toon have never liked players having their say about transfer dealings – however right they may be.
He’d be wise to keep quiet.

The longer it goes on, the more it looks like all the papers (and ‘arry) were wrong and Demba Ba will stay.
While the longer Danny Simpson ‘s contract goes unsigned, the more it looks like he will be going, replaced by Debuchy and Tavernier. Simpson, Best and Forster all for fees and Guthrie and Lovenkrands off the wages with just Amalfitano and Gael Bigi coming in so far.
With Steven Taylor , Ben Arfa and hopefully, Marveaux back fit (the 3 legendary ‘Like a New Signings’), and young Sammy Ameobi , Santon and Ferguson continuing their improvement, we should be ok. If Ashley DOES receive a silly money bid for one of our mainstays, lets hope Carr has a dossier ready on an available replacement and we can move on up.

I fairness to Cabaye, he’s not demanding the club ‘show ambition’ with some marquee signings. He’s just saying ‘Don’t lets stop the good thing we’ve got going here’ or that’s my reading of it, and that is ok by me.

@Premiership Manager: If that clause really requires a CL buyer, hopefully Ba realizes his best shot at 1st team football is Newcastle. With his knee problems and average pace he’ll always be a super-sub at a big team.

I’ve watched clips of Amalfitano at Reims, looks to be a legit threat on the break and a decent eye for goal. I definitely like the direction we’re going with him and Guidetti if he comes along.
