Debuchy Urged To Join Newcastle – One Of England’s Top Clubs

Robert Pires, the former Arsenal great, has done Newcastle a favor today, by speaking to the French media about Lille full-back Mathieu Debuchy, and he advises the 26 year-old to join Newcastle, which he says are on of England’s  top clubs.

Mathieu Debuchy – urged to join top club Newcastle

Debuchy has been a Newcastle target all year, and the club have put at least one bid in for around €5M, which is £4M, but Lille manager Rudi Garcia rejected that bid out of hand.

And there was an improved bid reported to have been made about a week ago, but we wonder if Newcastle have indeed gone in with a second improved offer.

But with Debuchy now back from holiday, we could definitely see Newcastle go back in and try to get the top French full-back to Newcastle, very soon now.

The news is that they want £6M, and an 8M fee has also been mentioned, but we think that could be €8M, which is around £6.3M with today’s exchange rate.

The former French International winger Pires played at Arsenal from 2000 through 2006, and was at Aston Villa briefly from 2010 through last year, when Frenchman Gérard Houllier was the Villa manager.

This is what Pires told Le 10 Sport:

“He has a game which really suits the Premier League with his speed. He also has such an attacking game, but is very aggressive in defense.”  “If I have any advice to give him, it would be to try his luck in England.”

“It does not really surprise me that English clubs are interested in him. Newcastle would be a very good club for him because he would find his friends Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa.”

“Also, they are one of the top English clubs, with a history and a beautiful stadium. For him and the rest of his career, they would be a nice stepping stone.”

Those are good words from Robert and very true of course. 😀

Newcastle have already missed out on their top striker target Luuk de Jong, who seems to want to join German club Borussia Monchengladbach, so the way we look at that,  is that he’s just not the right player for Newcastle.

We only want players who want to come to Tyneside, and from all accounts that’s what Yohan Cabaye’s friend Debuchy wants to do, and we are hoping he will be on Tyneside shortly, and hopefully by this time next week.

What do you think?

I really hope Debuchy tells Lille he wants to leave for us, cause we really don’t have any pulling power unless he wants to leave.

Lille don’t have to sell if they don’t want to and Debuchy still has two or three years left of his contract.

Pires is an idiot, with this last comment, but he may still be looking at Newcastle the way we were during his time in England with Arsenal & Villa. At that time players did use our club as a stepping stone. Pires obviously requires more time to understand the changes at Newcastle. Before his final comment he spoke very well about Newcastle. So rather than stamping our feet and swearing or wishing him dead for that last comment, put that down to his inability to move on, and lok at the positives he said.

Pires speaks the truth. We are a stepping stone club at the moment. You can’t put us in the same bracket as man utd, Barca, Madrid…… Yet! If you want to be the best in the world that is where you end up at the moment. Nothing wrong with that.

    Guys calm doon.
yes we are a stepping stone! thats if any of our players left us and went to a club Like AC Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manure or City (if you know what i mean) the mega clubs that any footballer would love to play for.
when Ronaldo was in Man U that was a stepping stone for him before he joined Real Madrid. does that mean that Manure are a small club? no, its just that Real is a greater club.
but for us, as i see it, there are only a handful of teams in the world that are bigger than us and if any of our players wanted to go there then we cant stop them i’m afraid.
but from where we are now, Liverpool or are no longer better equipt than us to compete so that leaves the 2 mancs, Chelsea & Arsenal in England, then AC Milan, Juventos, Bayern & the two big Spanish teams. the rest are either equal or less attractive than us to be in.

Also agree with Pires. He mentioned NUFC are a top English club with a great stadium – what’s wrong with that? Those who think NUFC aren’t a stepping stone need to get a reality check. Even if we get Debuchy for one season (which I hope isn’t the case), could we thereafter argue with him wanting to move to a bigger club? We would get more than our money back and Debuchy must play well of course if that sort of thing is to happen… so as Persian Geordie said “calm doon”….

HoroscopeHorsfall, i dont agree with most of who are on your list.

Stepping stone is when a young player comes to a medium club to improve then move to a better one.
Owen went to Real and went down a stone to us as he wasnt good enough to take that step up 🙂
Given was finished when he left us after 300 years.
Klievert! he was finished when he joined us!
Duff was just sh!te, i cant even remember anything good he ever did for us as he was always injured.
As for Zoq? Wegan wanst a steping stone, he just wanted out and away from Joe (the madman) Kennier 🙂
    Why is Parker there?

I’m sure our french players will take very kindly to the stupid French related comments that some of you have been so kind to post. Your intelligence nicely compliments your stupidity and ignorance.

I work with the french among other countries and the translation and context of the conversation does not always come across correctly.

It could be that Pire’s is talking purely about Debucy’s international career and at 26 yrs old you have to realise that this could be Debuchy’s biggest carrer move because once his contract is finished he will be past his best.

There is nothing wrong with Pire’s statement as he has complimented both the Club and the Stadium but unfortunately I think too many people have taken the stepping stone translation out of context.

We are a stepping stone to the best teams in the world; can’t say we are above the Manchester, Milan teams, Chelsea and other big spenders.

Persian: I’m pretty sure the biggest contribution Duff made in his time here, was scoring the own goal that relegated us. Utter waste of cash, and a bit of a prick to boot.

Pires is right, until we win something or are in champs league regularly we will be a stepping stone to a bigger club in world view but in our world there is no one bigger than the toon.

So we need to start winning big, Mike get your wallet out. Get the targets over the line ASAP an extra million here and there might reap a return sooner rather than later.
