Here is a compilation of the main news that has happened this week in the life of Newcastle United. We sold Leon Best and Fraser Forster for a combined £5M, and brought top youngster Gael Bigirimana to the club for around £1M from Coventry City, and James Tavernier signed a new three year deal at Newcastle.
Gael Bigirimana - new arrival at Newcastle
Here is last week’s news on our club.
====================
Monday
- The week started off with it looking like the £10M bid for Luuk de Jong would be the last one we would make and Newcastle would move on to look at other strikers. And that looks to have been true, with Newcastle looking at other potential striker targets.
- And on the same day it was announced that Leon Best had joined Blackburn Rovers for £3M, and he would be playing in the Championship next season, and the reports suggested he got an excellent four year deal at the Lancashire club.
Tuesday
- There had been reports that Papiss Cisse would be one of the three players allowed to represent Senegal at the London Olympics this summer, and news that Alan Pardew had moved to block his involvement. And Alan was within his rights because a club can refuse a player’s involvement at the Olympics, when he is one of those three over 23 years old. And it worked out, as we heard yesterday that neither Papiss Cisse nor Demba Ba were part of the Senegal Olympics squad.
- It was expected news that Newcastle would switch their attaention to other strikers, after seemingly missing out on their top target Luuk de Jong. We mentioned a couple of 19 year-olds who would be good buys for Newcastle. 20 year-old Swede John Guidatti who is at Manchester City, and 19 year-old Dutchman Luc Castaignos, who joined Inter-Milan last summer from Feyenoord. Both want first team football next season – will they get that at Newcastle?.
- And news that the France Football Federation would be investigating four players for misbehavior during Euro 2012, and they included Newcastle’s Ben Arfa. The results will probably be various levels of suspension foe each of the players, which is what the FFF did after the World Cup in South Africa in 2010, after the terrible goings on with their players at that time. Is this now going to be a French ritual after each major tournament?
Wednesday
- And there was news that PSG would be willing to let their top defender Mamadou Sakho leave the club. The 22 year-old is a top player who can play at center-back or left back, but the 6’2″ French International would probably be too expensive for Newcastle. There has been no more news on this story since then – that’s a pity.
- Lots of news on Mathieu Debuchy last week, but nothing really new. Mathieu was due back at the end of the week from holiday and was expected to tell his club, Lillie, that he wanted to leave and join Newcastle. Debuchy news could break any day now, and we hope it’s good news for Newcastle fans, because this lad would be great in black and white stripes – no doubt about that.
Thursday
- Newcastle seem to be in a bit of a stalemate with Brazilian center-back Douglas, after having a £5M bid accepted by his club FC Twente. But the 24 year-old is in some demand, and news that a top Russian club had also met the price Twente were asking for him, but no more news on this since then.
- Probably not the first time these two players have been linked with the Red Devils but reports that both Yohan Cabaye and Demba Ba were targets for Alex Ferguson. And that wouldn’t be too much of a surprise, because both players had great games when we tore Manchester United apart 3-0 at St. James’ Park in early January. Thinks – I must watch that game again next week.
- And really good news for Newcastle fans that James Tavernier signed a new three year deal to keep him at Newcastle, and he tweeted the news from his Twitter account. The last contract the right back had at Newcastle ran out last Sunday – so this is good news indeed and the lad is one of the top youngsters on Tyneside.
- And finally, after a long running saga, Newcastle goalkeeper Fraser Forster joined Celtic for a fee thought to be £2M. We had half expected Fraser to try to stay in England with Rangers now out of the SPL, and TV networks already considering whether they should be broadcasting the Scottish games next season, because there will not be those Rangers vs Celtic derbies. This could be a very difficult time for Scottish league football.
So the bottom line is that we moved two players out this week for a good £5M.
Friday
- And really great news yesterday that Newcastle had won the race to sign top holding midfielder Gael Bigirimana from Coventry City, for a fee believed to be around £1M. This 18 year-old is highly rated indeed, and while he will begin life at Newcastle in the Development squad, he will quickly move into the first team squad next season – great news for Newcastle fans.
- And an interesting interview with Italian Davide Santon with the Italian media, and he reveals that Roma asked permission to speak to him this summer, and Newcastle denied permission. Davide will need to keep improving next season, but we still think this Italian International (7 caps), who is captaining the Italian U21 side at the moment, can become a top player for Newcastle.
Saturday
- The news we had been waiting for – that FC Twente want £16M for their star striker Luuk de Jong, and the player himself was not very pleased that he may be priced out of a move by his Dutch club. Even Borussia Monchengladbach are balking at that ridiculous fee. But the bad news is that it seems that Luuk prefers to move to the German club – so be it.
- And news that Cheick Tiote could be in big demand this summer, but our view is that if Newcastle want to keep building and being more and more successful in the years ahead, it becomes more important to keep our very best players and build a top squad – and we think that’s exactly what Mike Ashley wants to do.
- Good news for Newcastle fans when Alan Pardew came out yesterday and said he thought that new boy Gael Bigirimana could challenge Newcastle first teamers next season, for a place in the side. We know Gael is very good, and it will be interesting to see how much this lad comes through next season, but he also has plenty of time of course, and should not be rushed. He seems a smashing lad.
Sunday
- And today former Arsenal and French International winger Robert Pires, has come out and urged Mathieu Debuchy to join Newcastle United, which he calls one of the top clubs in England. Well that’s a good start today, but we also must remember whatever news may be in the papers – it is a Sunday.
- Not too much more news today – so far – but that may change before the day is out – I may even make some stuff up.

From last post.
You reckon he’s like Clark Kent/Superman (although more powerful of course). You try and get a needle in him and it just breaks in half.
I was thinking along the lines of slip his drink.
If only he had Demba’s taste for syrup

I think he feeds off wildebeest, so maybe you’ll have to tie that in somehow??
Superman has nothing on Tiote for the record.

Ibizatoon – I think Blackburn were just interested in taking Gosling on loan for the season:
http://www.nufcfans.co.uk/rovers-want-sign-toon-midfielder-loan/
16 rich_toonfan // Jul 8, 2012 at 2:33 PM
@ big pappa
Think that would work a treat in games where we at the dominant team.
In other games where we will see less of the ball we could swap a striker out for a defensive mid.
The squad we have gives us some good versatility.

Chris G….Cheers mate. Hadn’t seen that bit of news. I would of though Gosling should get some games this season, especially with Guthrie gone. We shall see
19 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 8, 2012 at 2:47 PM
Saw this on a SS article….Shall we open the debate again? Ha
“‘I’d be interested in seeing Santon moved onto Right Back and a new Left back bought as every game i’ve watched Santon he’s more right than left footed.”
20 Nick 69 // Jul 8, 2012 at 2:48 PM
I think a loan would be great for Gosling, needs to play week in week out to get his form, and continue his development after being out so long. 15 mins here and there like he has been getting is not going to do him any good.
21 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 8, 2012 at 2:49 PM
Nick 69…Agree if he’s not going to get games with us, get him out on loan. I just would have thought he would get a fair amount more playing time than last season?!?

This window is slow. Newcastle are shopping in a more exclusive Market than last summer, perhaps that’s the problem. We were virtually unopposed in our targets last year. This year we’re facing more competition for our targets and the vendors are driving hard bargains. Our success last season will not gone unnoticed. We need to be patient.
30 Novocastrian66 // Jul 8, 2012 at 3:48 PM
Everyone is watching the tennis.
31 Nick 69 // Jul 8, 2012 at 3:54 PM
Ibizatoon – he may got more game time, however he may not, what with Pardew insisting Bigi will be challenging the 1st team, Vuckic hopefully stayin injury free, possible emergence of Abeid and possible signing of Anita or another CM he may be limited, althought I would think he’d still be ahead of Abeid in the pecking order at present

34 SupaToonKid // Jul 8, 2012 at 4:33 PM
With Pre-Season starting on Friday i think it could be a busy week for NUFC. I reckon we will sign atleast 1 player next (probably Debuchy) but it could be up to 3 (Debuchy + CB & CF). Pards will then be able to access the squad during these opening pre-season fixtures and get an early idea who will be in the challenging for the 1st XI, who will be in the development side, who will be loaned out, play cup games etc. Then he will maybe look at bringing in further recruits such as another forward & CM.
35 HullMag6 // Jul 8, 2012 at 4:48 PM
Some of our fellow bloggers have been a bit off,
Pires is right, until we win something or are in champs league regularly we will be a stepping stone to a bigger club in world view but in our world there is no one bigger than the toon.
So we need to start winning big, Mike get your wallet out. Get the targets over the line ASAP an extra million here and there might reap a return sooner rather than later.
Only just come on but read whats been posted. Just hope the plans are right and the right ingredients are there for another fantastic season.
36 hoppernufc // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:03 PM
Seriously we need to get our finger out and make some first team signings, all these people saying we only need a striker and midfielder what planet are you on? We need 4/5 quality players added to our squad to compete next season, aswell as the players who have already left ranger, xisco,Simpson will probs leave. We are so short it’s unreal
37 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:09 PM
Hopper…compete at what level?
Maybe I’m reading too much in to your comment, but it would “seem” to imply that if we add 4/5 quality players we’ll be competing for silverware? The PL?
I don’t think it’s Ashley’s plan to have us at that level, quite yet anyway. If you mean compete for top 7 and European football qualification, then I don’t think we need that many “quality” signings tbh….but we do need some depth.
Also, Midfield and strikers are near the bottom of my list of players needed. We desperately need cover at CB and FB. Any replacements or depth after will be an added bonus. However, I do have faith the club know what they’re doing and are going about things the right way
38 rich_toonfan // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:15 PM
I think we need a cb, fb, cm, winger and striker.
But realistically we will probably bring in around 2/3 of those.
The club builds slowly, there is no need to rush. Remember this current squad made it to 5th in the league. Think there is no reason we couldn’t make 6th with this squad, think we are still better than liverpool.
It took man city a couple years to make hamps league and a further year to win the league and the best part of 250million.
Realistically if we bring in 2/3 first team players a season, move your what’s surplus then add talented youth we have a good chance of being regulars in Europe and champions league challengers which would be a great achievement for our club.
39 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:22 PM
Rich…Agreed. Slow steady improvement. We’re not going to from mid table to champions league in a season…although we did come pretty close
40 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:28 PM
going to go*
41 hoppernufc // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:28 PM
Ibizatoon – 4/5 players to compete in top 7 ! You have to remember well have a lot of games next season our squad is know where deep enough to cope with all these games. We need fb, cb, cm, and one or two strikers cos of you think about it best, lovenkrands and probs xisco/ ranger will leave.
42 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:30 PM
@rich completly agree we need a quality fb a cb who at very least is pushing first 11 because as much as rate stevie t i just cant see the lad doing a whole season another 1-2 cm 1 defensive and maybe another cam def another winger purely for rotation but am hoping marv can do the job and a young quick CF would be a fantastic window
43 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:32 PM
Also completly off topic but c’mon federer!!
Cant stand murray arrogant little git!
44 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:35 PM
Hopper we need to replace best and 1 of loven/ranger/xisco you cant say we’ve lost all 3 when none of them have had any bearing on our season for nearly 2 years
45 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:35 PM
Hopper….I disagree. We competed top 7 this year and Best, Lovenkrands, Xisco and Ranger had very little to do with that.
I agree though, we should have more games this season. In a way, getting knocked out of the two cups last season was a blessing, as I think we would / could have struggled to finish as high up.
We will need to use our squad a lot more next season, but we already have a few players chomping to get some playing time, like Ferguson, Marveaux, Sammy, Tav, Vukick, Gosling, etc (injuries permitting of course).
I just think it’s unrealistic to expect 4/5 “quality” players to be coming in, we certainly haven’t let any quality players leave…yet
The club have a plan and I just don’t see them altering it too much
46 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:36 PM
Sorry hopps that is exactly what you said should really start reading the posts properly!!!
47 Novocastrian66 // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:36 PM
TADS. No way. Brit all day. Murray has had to work hard to get were he is today, he is determined and single minded. Should notbe confused with arrogance.
48 THE TOON BOY // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:38 PM
I think we will get debuchy within the next few days as he desires to join us and cabaye will be urging him to come, also I think that another left back may be coming in for cover as in a recent interview santon was on about how pardrew was going to play him as right back and that he would welcome debuchy to see who the manager played
49 DannyA // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:40 PM
i do like Murray as a tennis player but Federer is so much more a complete player fantastic to watch him wont be a player lyk him 4 years to come Novak is good but i tate Federer so much more!

anyway we signed Messi yet or is it still pending
51 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:41 PM
Novo im not supporting him purely because were “british” im english end of hes scottish, do the scots support english teams/sportsmen when they have no scotsmen in a comp? No im supporting federer hes a true tennis great and yes murray is an arrogant little git
52 hoppernufc // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:42 PM
Come on best was a starter at the beginning of the season and the only reason he was dropped was cos of cisse he played up untill January also lovenkrands was injured that’s why he wasn’t involved. Ok so answer this what would your two teams be for the Europa league qualifing match then two days later the Chelsea away match?
53 hoppernufc // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:43 PM
Toonarmydownsouth- haha
54 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:46 PM
Novo and at the end of the day sports is a competition im not gonna support chelski/man u in a champs league final just because there an english team, just like i wont support wales/scotland in rugby if england get knocked out these ppl/teams are our fierce rivals and i wont support just because tge english havent got a decent tennis player!
The ONLY thing i support as a british person is our brave armed forces.
55 Novocastrian66 // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:49 PM
Sorry mate can’t agree Federer is a great. No doubt, however Murray to win would be a once in a lifetime achievement. I’m 46 and no Brit has come close. It will be something ticked off my list of something to see before I slip this mortal coil. It might make me believe Newcastle will win something, which incidentally I’ve given up on!
56 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 8, 2012 at 5:52 PM
Hopper…I’m not arguing the fact that 4 or 5 quality players wouldn’t be great, just I don’t expect we’ll be getting them.
Best played a lot at the beginning of the season, you could argue Cisse is his replacement?
I said all last season that our squad is thin, so I wont take any convincing.
The club are obviously looking to youth and if that is the case, they have to be given a chance in the first team. That wont happen if we just buy quality first team players. We’re not Man City and personally I am ok with that.
Either way…I’ll try your task, although before I start, I’m sure it’ll be tricky.
1)
Krul
Simmo – Willo – Saylor – Santon
Raylor – Tiote – Gosling
HBA – Ba – Marveaux
2)
Krul (if not then it’ll have to be Harps or Elliot)
Tav – Perch – Collo – Ferguson
Vukick – Gutti – Sammy
Shola – Cisse – Gutti
That’s off the top of my head. Mixture of youth and “quality”. I may have missed someone and I may not have picked the right players for each game, depending on the opponents for the Europa game. This also doesn’t include any players gone or any that should come in.
Not too bad really imo.
As I said before, for me, CB and FB are a priority Any depth over that is great, but for me that area needs some serious cover.

Hope we bring in a couple new players in the window…getting concerned at the lack of activity! We NEED a decent back up keeper because let’s face it, Harper is going to be retiring or on his way soon and Elliot just isn’t good enough to be back up…could also do with another defender or 2 and a back-up/contesting first team striker in as a back up for Ba and Cisse….Shola is just a bit to inconsistent for me
67 Novocastrian66 // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:05 PM
TADS. I have no affinity with Chelsea or Man Utd and to be honest I couldn’t give a monkey’s nuts whether they win the champions league. However when it comes to patriotism I will always back a Brit. Man Utd & Chelsea are about as British as the USA & Russia. I suppose you won’t be cheering on Chris Hoy in the Olympics or any other Scotsman, Welshman, Irishman, that will be representing our country? You’ll only want the Englishmen to win then?

last year we sold 5 of our 8 best players of the 2010/11 season..enrique, carroll, nolan, barton and loaned out harper…(colo, jonas nd tiote were other 3) and these players were replaced with players of the right mentality with skill and pace i.e. ba, cabaye, krul promoted o 1st team, santon, ben afra nd of course cisse
again this season we have seen lovenkrands nd best..both of which we all agree with. hopefully this season we will see the signing of mav, gosing, abeid, and the two new lads come to the fore.
id be very happy with the arrival of debuchy and douglas and another quality striker.
82 blacknwhite magpie // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:28 PM
if we sign debuchy, douglas and guidetti i think we have a really good chance of ending up third or fourth next season
83 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:28 PM
Novo its not a shame mate just a different opinion i wont knock any1 for having 1!
The olympics tbh honest i generally have very little intrest in athletics have never really been a big passion of mine not sure whybut seeing as its team gb im sure i can get behind them as a team in which they compete with each other rather than in competition
84 MUTINYbyLEMONS // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:29 PM
Aw Andy Murray crying, dw always next year. Back to NUFC, I hope we sign debuchy, a cb n striker n a winger maybe
85 SupaToonKid // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:30 PM
is it just me or do others get pissed off when player’s names are spelt wrong, i can understand when they don’t play for your team but surely when they play for your own team you should be able to pronounce & spell their name right out of respect if nothing else.
86 blacknwhite magpie // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:34 PM
i think our team next season should be
krul
debuchy—coloccini—douglas/taylor—santon
cabaye—tiote—jonas/bigirimana
ba/guidetti—cisse—ben arfa
87 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:34 PM

“You will never get this, you will never get this, lala la la la” – Roger Federer to Andy Murray, behind the scenes.
89 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:39 PM
Beardo well murrays sister is no2 prostitute in whole village high five!
90 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:41 PM
Must say that although it’s off topic I completely disagree with whoever called Murray an arrogant little git. Gained so much respect for the guy, cannot dislike a man who cares that much about what he does. Well done Andy, and much like the ever underachieving NUFC you too will have your day!
Right back on topic, must say that I agree with Ibiza that we do not need 6/7 first teamers to compete at the level we are currently at. 3 maybe 4 would give us real strength in depth, boost of quality as well combined with the exciting youngsters we have pushing through the ranks.
Biggy is an example of that type of player, Ferguson, Streete, Richardson and Tav are all going to pushing into the first team soon so let’s just be patient/
91 SupaToonKid // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:42 PM
TADS
Aye i can allow little mistakes but the constant ones such as Vuckic being spelt as Vukick, Marveaux spelt as Marveux or Debuchy as Debouchy or Debauchy.
It’s nothing really to get wound up about but it does annoy me a bit when i see it repeatedly occuring from serial offenders.
92 Novocastrian66 // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:43 PM
TADS. Not knocking you mate. It’s a shame people don’t appreciate what it means to be British, whether the person happens to be English, Scottish, Welsh or Irish. We have a common allegiance. British and together we have achieved great things. Rivalry between our nations is healthy however we should all stick together. Still given up on Newcastle winning owt though!
93 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:46 PM
Only thing about that Novo is that some people in these countries don’t wish to be classed as British, a touchy subject I know but I do say this a Northern Irish man who is categorically Irish.
And don’t give up on us winning something, I can feel it in my bones
94 Big Pappa Cisse // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:47 PM
The thing I hate about Murray is whenever he loses a point he cries like a little girl whereas someone like Federer just gets on with it
95 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:48 PM
Ruddy that would be me buddy
Not disagreeing that one day hes gonna win and is no doubt gonna be a great player but like many i personally think he believed his own hype and certainly does have an air of arrogance you can see it when he bites at the officials, slumps off the etc. but like i said to novo im not gonna argue with some1 over there opinion and like you said back to more important things the toon!
I think we need 3/4 players of pl standard mainly a fb and a cb and would love to see another top CM
Other than that let club keep on bringing in exciting young lads the futures looking bright for the toon
96 Ally // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:48 PM
has anybody heard the news that debuchy has handed in a transfer request?

98 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:52 PM
SupaToon….Is this where I put my hands up?
Ruddy….I was reading a Sky Sports interview with Wenger about his policy, “vision”, etc and I love it. I can also understand fans frustrations. To be that close, but constantly missing out.
I feel our situation is slightly different though, however I’m obviously biased
We sold Andy Carroll and ended up with Cisse and Ba. Barton and Nolan out in comes Cabaye. We don’t really need that much for the starting 11 to match most others in the PL, but there is no point just filling up the squad with these type of players or the youth will never get a chance.
99 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:53 PM
Do you not think that by signing another top CM, whilst it would increase the quality of the midfield now would hamper the potential development of certain players like Abeid, Gosling, Richardson, or Biggy in a few years time? If the hype is to be believed then we have a real gem of a player in Biggy and we know that Abeid has immense potential and I would love to see him getting first team action this season.
As for the FB and CB I think you are spot on there lad. The defense is where we need bolstering, as well as another CF to keep Ba and Cisse on their toes, a young un though, someone who can be gradually introduced into the side.
I also feel we are in desperate need of another flair player on the wing, we have Arfa and Marveaux as players who can unlock defenses (although we saw little of Marveaux I really do rate the fella, as my moniker would suggest haha) but we do need another on the other wing as I think we’ll see Guti play a more central role this season.
100 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:54 PM
Novo aye it is a shame not gonna disagree with that maybe it just depends on how and where you were raised oh well we all know theres only one true nationality for all us lot on here and thats toon!
Supa yeah i kind of get that thank god none of tgem work in the club shop!
101 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:54 PM

Tennis talk….really lads?
103 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:56 PM
@Ibiza
I’ve always admired Wenger’s policy of exciting football and trusting his youth entirely, however I don’t think his transfer policy is as sound as ours. Arteta, Mertesacker, Benayoun, Park Chu Young and Andre Santos all brough in last summer. Other than Arteta which of those were any good? Whereas we brought in Santon, Cabaye, Cisse, Ba, Marveaux.
I think we may have taken the Arsenal blueprint and just tweaked it…does that mean trophies will surely follow? He who dares wins, do we dare?
104 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 8, 2012 at 6:57 PM
Ever so briefly WWJBD…sorry WWYCD haha
105 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 8, 2012 at 7:01 PM
WWYCD sorry did i say tennis i meant tits!!
Ruddy its sounds like abied might be going on loan i think biggy will have a role perhaps 2nd half of the season? Gosling and vuckic is fir me a tad risky vuckic needs to stay fit if he can the lad is gonna be magic gosling? I think he should of been on loan last season guti will do a good job in cm but my main concern is an injury to cabs especially without guthrie we looked last season with out him!
106 graham cwarr // Jul 8, 2012 at 7:02 PM
@beardo and im a gelfling.
So we are calling our new signing biggy? Easy to write. Simmo willo Colo benny oba biggy. Wonder if that’s what pards calls them
107 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 8, 2012 at 7:02 PM
Ruddy….Of course we dare!
108 Dannyo // Jul 8, 2012 at 7:04 PM
Deschamp becomes the new French manager.
Say goodbye to your international career HBA.
Hopefully the EL and CL will satisfy those needs
109 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 8, 2012 at 7:10 PM
Wouldn’t write off Gosling, he was once tipped for a big future and he can still have one if he is looked after. Vuckic can be an immense player, we have to trust him if he gets time in the first team. If Abeid is going on loan I would love to see another Prem team take him, or a Championship team challenging for promotion, anything lower than that and he won’t learn much. I understand the trepidation and obviously the younger lads won’t have the same ability as Cabs but we must put some faith in the youth.
@GC
Seemed much easier to write Biggy than Bigirimana, hope it catches on in the stadium on matchday haha

111 MagPieMan // Jul 8, 2012 at 7:24 PM
Was reading some earlier posts and I saw some people going on aboute getting a new centre back in and selling Mike Williamson. These people need to have a look at our squad. Steven Taylor, Coloccin and Williamson are our ONLY centre backs. We will be having lots more games next season which means rotation so we will need at least four centre backs capable of doing a job. And Steven Taylors history shows us that he is injury prone and what happens if him and Collocini (who , for the first time, had a few injury problems last season) get injured? Can we realy rely on a new signing, who has to adapt to the league, and James Perch to stop us conceeding?. I like Perch and think hes had some good performances but centre half is a specialised position, you can’t just throw someone who has been playing full back most of their career in there and expect clean sheets. And no one knows how well Curtis Good (if we sign him) and Remi Street would adapt to the lague. They could surprise us but i wouldn’t like to risk it. I understand Williamson isn’t the best defender in the league but he certainly isn’t the worst. He gets the job done and, on his day, play really well. I remember him having a few motm awards last season. selling Williamson would be, in my opinion, one of the most stupid things the club could do. We need to add to the squad, not replace any of it.
112 Rotonda heights // Jul 8, 2012 at 7:32 PM
That’s the trouble Willo doesn’t get the job done!!
Everyone knows simpson and willo are our weak links.
And besides we are after 2 CBs.
113 graham cwarr // Jul 8, 2012 at 7:59 PM
@magpieman my point was if we get sakho/Douglas in it pushes willo down one more step anyway you only have a certain squad size and at some point willo will be obsolete.
If Curtis good lives up to his name then where will that leave willo?
