The Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has let the fans know that he’s doing everything he can to keep Demba Ba at Newcastle.
Demba Ba – in action last season
We have to think that Alan has already had a quiet talk with the 27 year-old Senegal International, to see whether he’s thinking about leaving the club this summer, and quite honestly Demba Ba should let Newcastle know what his intentions are, and as soon as possible.
That’s because if he wants to leave then he should move on, but it will mean that Alan Pardew and the Newcastle Board will need to bring not one, which is the current plan, but two extra strikers in this summer.
We were hoping to hear something more official on the status of Demba Ba, after pre-season started up last Thursday, but nothing yet.
But at least the Newcastle manager seems to be doing his level best to keep the Senegal striker at Newcastle, and you cannot ask much more than that.
This is what Alan said today:
“I want Demba to stay.” “He’s a Newcastle player and all I’m focusing on is making sure he’s a Newcastle player next season.”
Demba Ba was great last season, smashing in 16 goals in by February, and even though the goals dried up after that, he still played well, and helped to ensure that his Senegal strike partner Papiss Cisse scored the goals – 13 goals in just 14 appearances to be exact.
And there’s now only 23 days to go before that release clause of £7M in his contract expires, and then we can all breath just a little bit easier – assuming he’s still at Newcastle on August 1st.
We hope Demba Ba stays at on Tyneside next season, and we’d love to hear him say that’s what he wants to do.
What do you think about this?
Comments welcome.

Keeping him is vital imo. Keeping all our top players is vital. We’ve accumulated about £30-40 mill in transfer fees over the years, and now we’ve removed a substantial ammount of the wage packet.
So don’t sell any bluchips and keep em coming in.
2 Beardo // Jul 8, 2012 at 7:12 PM
5 days to go.
3 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 8, 2012 at 7:16 PM
Gotta keep hold of big demba hes a vital part of the team
@ruddy from last topic
Dont get me wrong we need to be developing the youth and we certainly seem to have some very talented youngsters just dont think it would hurt to have another guthrie type not quite first team but can come in and just click in when needed
On gosling i really hope he does make it i always rated him at everton the only thing that worries me is i seem to remember hearing he hasnt really settled well at all and was a wee bit lazy at training hope its not true and he really steps up for us along with obertan
4 geordielad123 // Jul 8, 2012 at 7:17 PM
He wont go
5 toonincheek // Jul 8, 2012 at 7:18 PM
If Ba hasn’t already told AP that he will reject other offers (and it seems clear he hasn’t said that) then he IS ready to leave.
In which case – thanks for what you have done for us, good luck with your choice and goodbye.

@ toonincheek
Yeah, because you should always take a players word for it if he says he wants to stay or not
7 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 8, 2012 at 7:22 PM
Obertan is a player that, for those that probably remember, I am a big fan of. I think his confidence was just knocked and last season was a season for him to re-find his form and confidence. Pardew showed a lot of faith in the lad and I think we will see much more accomplished performances from him this season. He is still a young fella and we need to give him time.
Time will tell whether we do sign that extra body in the middle to boost the numbers, maybe that’s why we are supposedly looking at Anita. Can play in the middle and along the back so would be another Perchinho type player.
Well this season would be a big one for Gosling, I fear that if he moves on loan to someone, heard Blackburn mentioned earlier, that it will not be for him to gain first team football to aid his development that it will the first stage of shipping him out the door. Would be a shame if a player of his talent didn’t realise it at our club.
I’d be more concerned about losing the likes of Tiote or Cabs than I would be about Ba but I do think he is a big asset to have in the squad.

this is already shapin up like the enrique saga, we dont want ba to leave ,and if he doesnt, and he should know by now,hes had all summer to think about it he should come out and say so and lets get on with preparing for the season, this way we will only need to look for one striker

If we keep the better players which it looks likely at the moment, then I don’t see anyone wanting to leave. I can only see us letting players leave who aren’t part of the longterm plan and ambition of the club.

@Indian
It’s in general. I find your constant negativity unwarranted and unnecessary. You move from player to player whom you deem not good enough and just lampoon them, despite the fact that they wear the black and white for us.
Players are not beyond reproach but you constantly slate them even when they are playing well. So in essence I find you frustrating and not in the least bit insightful so I find no reason to wish to engage in any form of discussion with you.
35 Dannyo // Jul 8, 2012 at 7:59 PM

We need to keep the faith in players. I’m sure there are some certain ones on here that wanted us to get rid of Collo and Enrique in their time, but now sing their praises.

Yeah exactly lad, Colo was dreadful in his first season with us, and now he is our captain and influential leader. It should be second nature to just want every player who pulls on the black and white to succeed for us but it seems that certain shortsighted fans seem to revel in the fact that certain players are not living up to their potential instead of backing them and I find that point of view very frustrating

Everyone is in line for critisism at times, but leave it constructive.
Things as “he’s shit, flogging space head”, etc is not needed. Frankly it’s childish.
If we have players with confidence issues, it sure as hell isn’t gonna help to boo them.

Well I lasted up until the window opened which is an achievement in itself I suppose.
This season I do think we will see a tactical transformation of the team now that we will no longer be as reliant on defensive wingers backing up our full-backs. 5-3-2 could be the way forward but I do think we might have a more 4-2-3-1 formation, which I know would perhaps necessitate dropping Ba or Cisse but I think it works better with the players we currently have.

I’m not sure if this was in one of the independent articles AP had or in an interview, but he said that he would like his team to play a lot more like Spain and retain the ball allot better than what we had done.
He also added that if u got players at the back who are not comfortable playing it forward, then u have to play to their strengths or avoid their weaknesses, so they kick it upwards instead.
It’s basically what i assumed all last season, it was only players like Simmo, Krul and Willo who did the hoofballing. So we’re looking at better technical players who can play it out.
But AP has to sort out Kruls distribution, cause thats horrible.
86 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 8, 2012 at 9:07 PM
@Ibiza
I do think that for a 4-2-3-1 to work we might have to invest in another winger, as I can see HBA being earmarked for the No 10 role that Pards said ages ago and put Marveaux on the left with a new winger on the right, or maybe Obertan can step up to the plate? I think it will be a defining season for the young lad and this season he has to earn his stripes.
87 Beattie25 // Jul 8, 2012 at 9:09 PM
I think we have to go for 3 in midfield.
Pardew talked about ‘controlling’ the game all last season and we did it in about 3 matches. We have the quality to retain possession throughout the team apart from Simmo and Willo so it’s understandable as to why Pards is looking to another RB and CB.
However I think the problem is more than these 2 and a lot is to do with formation. We need a 3rd man in there to keep the ball and distribute. With 4-4-2 last year too many times Cabaye and Tiote were outnumbered and ineffective. So we need a 3rd midfielder as much as we need a RB/CB.
What kind of CM would you guys like? Another DM like Matuidi, a creative CM like Elm, an AM like Feghouli or a box to box CM like Wanyama?
88 kevymartins // Jul 8, 2012 at 9:09 PM
People come on here and forget what players we have in are squad. marveaux who is gona be really good if he stays fit.Jonas who was imo the hardest working lw/lwb in the league for 2 years running an in every team i have seen posted people like that have been left out.
89 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 8, 2012 at 9:09 PM
@Dannyo
I think that is what is halting Krul from becoming a world class GK and if we sorted that then we would have a much better shout of being the team that Pards wants us to be. I agree with you totally and was aware that it was the lack of technical ability of Simmo and Willo that led to the long ball passing, which is to be expected of them, better doing that than dallying on the ball at the expense of a goal. So we definitely need to upgrade RB and CB as even Taylor isn’t the best with a ball at his feet.
90 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 8, 2012 at 9:11 PM
@Kevy
I understand what you’re saying about Guti, in my opinion Marv will be a big part of the team if he can stay fit but although Guti is hard working I just don’t think he has the technical ability to take us to the next level, but he is a superb lad to have around the squad to make an impact in the latter stages of games.

94 Dannyo // Jul 8, 2012 at 9:21 PM
@Beattie & Ruddy
I reckon we’ll continue the 4-3-3 formation. It should be enough to bring in only 1 striker that way. I don’t expect to see Cisse and Ba together up top again. HBA, Marveux, Obertan, Jonas, Sammy are all capable of playing alongside a striker in a 4-3-3 formation.
In a tough match it’ll be easy to revert to 4-5-1 aswell, should we get overrun in the middle or passed on the wings.
I reckon we need another DM, so Vurnon could be a good option for us, and now we have Gael to push them aswell.
It could be AP has changed his mind about Abeid, and sees him more as a distributor rather than a holding DM like Tiote.
Will be interesting to see, but i expect us to keep it along the ground allot more than last season.
95 Beattie25 // Jul 8, 2012 at 9:22 PM
Apparently Senestien Corchia is being lined up as Debuchys replacement but too be honest I’m surprised we haven’t been linked to him.
21 years old, cheaper and potentially a bigger resale value. Apparently he was fantastic in ligue 1 last season.
Obviously Debuchy is the finished article and Canayes mate but I’d think if we don’t get him we may move for this lad?!
96 Beattie25 // Jul 8, 2012 at 9:27 PM
Has anybody considered that maybe Debuchy is being purchased for a CM position or is that just pure madness??

Helllllssss Yeah!!!
@Dannyo
You could be right on that score, I do think that Pards is aware that just keeping 2 in the middle of the park might not particularly work but the 4-2-3-1 is easily mixed with a 4-5-1 and a 4-3-3 as well. If he wants to play the Spain or Barca way then he will know that they do not play to any strict formations, the beauty of their play is that it is so adaptable and malleable to match conditions. So as you, if the midfield is overrun then easy swift changes can be made.
What we need is a team that is confident and comfortable on the ball and in possession that they can be brave enough to play this way. Pards does want us to play a certain system and has admitted that he has not been able to play the football that he’s wanted to, but the football we were playing towards the end of last season was mouth watering. I think the days of 4-4-2 are behind us…

I think Debuchy is being purchased for RM and as cover for RB.
Expect Jonas to play as a first choice FB this season either RB or LB hence Pards suggesting Santon may also play as RB or LB.

I was shouting for Corchia the season we got promoted!! cracking young player who is insanely quick and good defensively plus will only get better
101 GeordieRooster // Jul 8, 2012 at 9:40 PM
Gudetti! have u seen this guy , dunno whay were after de jong when hes available. we already have enough lanky forwards. no offence to those of you that are over 6″2
102 Beattie25 // Jul 8, 2012 at 9:41 PM
You do realise if we could play just 75% of how Spain/Barca play we could
Dominate the PL.
Look at Swansea. If they knew how to attack they could’ve won the league based on possession. We’ve got most of the ingredients but we’d have to buy some imcredible talent.
Id love to see us dominate teams next year and score more in games and have the belief to fight back in matches.
That to me would be massive progression.
103 GeordieToon89 // Jul 8, 2012 at 9:42 PM
GeordieRooster – I’d love us to sign John Guidetti, dont think its true that were even looking at him though, we’d be mad not to be though

would love us to sign serigne kara he’s a beast, can play cm or cb

well I think Jonas is being converted to being in CM or CDM just like Schwestiger.

107 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 8, 2012 at 10:28 PM
Don’t know why everyone is so worried. If he leaves it will purely be of his own accord considering the clause he has in his contract, if that is the case then it will be because he has wanted to leave.
We would get 7 mill, not great but what can ya do. We would then be ramping up our efforts to bring in another CF and we would no doubt bring in a cracking youngster or a bargain buy. If he stays then happy days

I’ve been saying all along that we were in for De Jong because of Ba leaving. I don’t think we’d pay 10m+ on another striker unless one of Cisse or Ba is on the way out.

113 nufc in europe // Jul 8, 2012 at 11:13 PM
If demba was to leave, would you replace him with a left winger, striker or both? I think we’d need both, we’d need someone to play in his position (assuming we play 433) but we’d also need another 16 goals from someone. As much as i love cisse he surely won’t be able to score 30 will he?
114 Beardo // Jul 8, 2012 at 11:21 PM
Hoilett is our man, I firmly believe this!
Stealing an already 10m+ player for a couple of million, has shades of the Cabaye move! Will only improve alongside our roster and increase in value as a result. Can play ST and winger and with the likelihood that Ba and Cisse will be with us for the entire season, I think that’ll do us in the forward positions.
Yeah I’ve convinced myself, we’re getting Hoilett! GET IN!
115 graham cwarr // Jul 8, 2012 at 11:27 PM
Hell beardo you’ve convinced me. hoilett is signing in Thursday guys

120 Zebras4Life // Jul 9, 2012 at 5:04 AM
I’m confident Ba will stay. I anticipate we will bring in another ST in the £7M range and a creative attacker of the CAM/CF/LW variety in the (£6/7M). I have reason to believe Douglas (£5m) and Debuchy (£7M) are locks as well. I wouldn’t expect too much more in terms of 1st team, but with this I will be pleased and confident in our ability to challenge for the CL. (this would talley our £20M plus the sales of Forster and Best.)
121 LEROI // Jul 9, 2012 at 5:04 AM
hmmm everyone is going on about getting this fast young striker who can also play on the left wing. kind of reminds me of that young lad at that top 5 prem team err.. What’s his name? He’s tall so he can win headers an all…. Whats he called man? He’s got that older veteran geordie brother…. He’s an england u21 international errrr….. What do you call him & who does he play for? Ohhhh i just remembered it SAMMY AMEOBI!!
If Pards gives him a chance he won’t dissapoint. & before anyone has false memories of him being poor again in the about 25mins we seen him for before his injury last season have a bloody word with yaself man! He was good enough to get in the u21′s in his 1st season mate.

Wigan
Norwich
stoke
Let me know, your picks

Blackpool
West Ham
Swansea
124 redondo77 // Jul 9, 2012 at 5:52 AM
if that 7m clause still there, Ba will leave probably at very last minute before transfer window closed.
on other subject about “NUFC is a good stepping stone – by pires”, we won’t be a stepping stone for Debuchy because every player that left NUFC or treated us as a stepping stone will find their careers going downhill.
I can’t think of one player doing well after they left us to go to “better clubs”.
125 Twatter // Jul 9, 2012 at 5:53 AM
@122 Wigan, Stoke, West Ham
Well, that’s what I hope.

127 ilovetoon8788 // Jul 9, 2012 at 6:08 AM
@redondo
You can’t think of 1 player who has done well after leaving us? I’ll help you.
Dietmar Hamann, Bellamy, Distin, Enrique, Jon Dahl Tomasson, Given, Viana, Andy Cole. All forged a decent career after leaving us. Playing or played at the same standard.
128 redondo77 // Jul 9, 2012 at 6:23 AM
ilovetoon
I agree with you on Hamann and Cole.
The others i disagree if they did better at other clubs.
Enrique? did liverpool do better than us?
Viana & Tomasson? you must be joking.
129 redondo77 // Jul 9, 2012 at 6:31 AM
Shay Given almost paying at championship.
Bellamy, I almost never seen him before moving to liverpool.
Distin is at everton.
you made it sound like we are still in 2nd division.
130 ilovetoon8788 // Jul 9, 2012 at 6:39 AM
@redondo
My point is, they all did well and their career didn’t go downhill which u claimed. “I can’t think of 1 player who did well”. It doesn’t matter how well the club did.
ALL OF THEM did well. Given continued to play brilliantly. Distin was 1 of the best Everton player in the center half role. Enrique was Liverpool best player last season as far as I’m concerned. Bellamy is still a great player with some over here still wished he was with us. Jon Dahl Tomasson was good with AC MILAN.
So no one doing well after leaving us is clearly crap.
131 Twatter // Jul 9, 2012 at 6:41 AM
What about David Ginola? As for Enrique, it honestly depends on how you interpret it, with Liverpool, Jose won the Carling Cup which is more than he ever won with us. Then again, his team finished lower and a Liverpool supporting friend of mine says he doesn’t look like the player he was at NUFC.
132 Twatter // Jul 9, 2012 at 6:45 AM
Easy, I think redondo has more of a point than you harshly give him credit for. Not having you say Bellamy, Given or Distin are still great players either… Probably more to do with age than just a move away from the Toon but those three have their best days way behind them.
133 redondo77 // Jul 9, 2012 at 6:54 AM
Tomasson was good at AC Milan? He is mostly as subtitute and he was really crap, i’m confused with your standard, he was with NUFC for 1 season played 23 scored 3, then he moved back to Holland with Feyenord before AC Milan signed him.
Btw your so-call “one of the best center half in everton”, distin was only loanned to NUFC for 1 season from PSG.
Please don’t cut my sentence in half, you left ou moving to better clubs. I never thought Villa, Celtics, Everton was better than NUFC, but then again maybe I’m wrong we are worse than them.
134 redondo77 // Jul 9, 2012 at 6:56 AM
Distin never choose to leave us. He was only a loan.
135 redondo77 // Jul 9, 2012 at 6:59 AM
Tomasson didn’t choose to leave, he was sold!!
So get your fact straight before calling my “cut in half” statement a crap.

In your opinion and you’re entitled to it. I actually like seeing the ball passed really well with great movement off the ball which is what Barcelona and to a lesser degree Swansea provide. But hey if ”hoofball” is your bag it kind of shows why English football has never progressed out of the dark ages.
If you really have a problem watching Xavi, Iniesta and Messi, I think that says more abut you than anything else.

What is this slagging Tomasson? He has had a fantastic career on the highest level.
When he came to NUFC he was nothing but a 20 year old with a huge amount of potential, but everyone got injured at NUFC even Shearer and everyone was look to Tomasson for the goals.
It was just too much to ask from such a young kid.

he was just an example of someone who left us
