Newcastle Striker Having Medical Today

Lee Clark’s Birmingham City are close to completing a deal for former Newcastle United striker Peter Lovenkrands.

Peter Lovenkrands – while at Newcastle

Peter joined Newcastle as a free agent from Schalke  04 in January of 2009, when Joe Kinnear was the manager, and he did well at Newcastle,  and in 84 appearances he scored a good 29 goals.

And Lovenkrands was one of the key men who helped  Newcastle get promoted at the first attempt from the Championship, following our relegation, and in that promotion season he scored 16 goals in 32 games.

But Peter has been short of opportunities over the last season or two, and Newcastle decided not to extend the 32 year-old Dane’s contract at the club when it ran out on July 1st, but Lee Clark seems to have moved quickly to sign Peter up.

Peter is a free agent and personal terms have been agreed with the striker, and he is set to arrive at Wast Hills Training Ground this morning ahead of the Birmingham squad returning for pre-season training.

Lovenkrands will have his medical today, and Birmingham will hope to be able to confirm the signing some time later today.

Peter has played for Denmark 22 times with one International goal, and he also played six years at Rangers and spent three years at Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga, and in 354 total appearances so far in his career, he has scored 98 goals.

Back in 2000, Bobby Robson at Newcastle thought he had signed the then 20 year-old Lovenkrands, but Dane the surprisingly ended up at Rangers, saying afterwards that he thought he would get more playing time north of the border, and he scored 54 goals in 182 appearances in Glasgow.

Lovenkrands began his career in Denmark with Akademisk Boldklub, and made his debut in July of 1998, and when he arrived on Tyneside he did a good job at Newcastle, and was one of players who helped us come back big time, after the terrible relegation in 2009.

Peter is not only a very good player, but he’s also a good lad, and we wish him all the very best at Birmingham.

Fair play to Peter. Was a true Gent for us. Especially after playing a few days after his dad died. A true professional. Best of luck to him.

    @ Indian

Regarding your post ont he previous thread about Milner. I hope you watched the EURO’s? He was by far the worst player on the pitch. On his day, Milner is a real talent, but he has had too many ‘off games’ for both club and country. I always liked him as a player, it just seems to me like he’s lost his spark/passion/enthusiasm for the game. His head isnt in it.

Wish Peter all the best. Loverman always welcome back to SJP.

Indian…in response to your comment on previous thread….probably no one jumping on the sh*t comment as first it’s early and secondly Milner no longer plays for Newcastle, so slightly different.

In case you hadn’t noticed, the England team gets a lot of stick generally, mainly because they constantly underwhelm us. However, we do give them credit when they play well, which would be different to your treatment of Shola (if I can call it that).

Anyway….it’s a new week, anyone else feel the possibility, excitement, optimism in the air?

Ibiza – I find your comment misleading. As a man INK i was under the impression the week started yesterday!!

Joking aside, i’d like us to make a move in the transfer market soon. Just to give us fans something to shout about!!

Enjoy your start to the week.

Well, for me, Monday is the start…..isn’t Sunday part of the weekend? 🙂

The transfers will be coming (in fact 2 already have).

Come on boys….friendlies start this week? This is after all what supporting Newcastle is about….watching them play football.

Indian….Personally, regardless of the day, a whore and cash wouldn’t do it for me.

Indian…Not wanting to start a “discussion” on the topic, as I’m not sure there is a constructive discussion to be had. I was merely responding to your post where you were feeling hard done by as someone was slating an ex player.

Trust me, there isn’t one person on here who’s not clear on your feelings towards wor Shola. I will add, prior to his rise as the super sub, many would likely agree. But times do move on.

    Yo….But Messi is pending 🙂

In all honesty, besides Guthrie and Best, the rest were hardly part of our plans and needed to be shifted to free up wages etc for our targets. Well I hope so anyway.

Yes, I am always excited for a new week. So much possibility. Have faith. If it all goes wrong, you can always vent and find some young child to rough up…is the joke running a little old now? I thought not 🙂

We haven’t lost anyone who made any real impact on the first team last season with the possible exception of Guthrie which was a shame.

Other than that we’ve got 5-6 youngsters who are now one year older and wiser and a lot more versatile ‘I can play more than one role’ type players who are going to be very important.

With 2 more first team additions and maybe a couple more development players we’re looking alright.

Plus it looks like ba might stay.

I’ve been back and forth about debuchy. He looked quality going forward but weak in defence and I’m not sure we need that. I’m starting to think we could really do with a quality left back that doubles as a centre back and have santon play right. With the amount of players we have whO can play rb it would make more sense surely?!

Fatman…Unfortunately I dare not enter a discussion on which side Santon should or could play…far too stressful 🙂

I think dreamboat mark 2 would be a decent addition to the team, will have to watch him though when he bombs forward. Could be an issue with both Santon and him leaving the back exposed….i’m sure the coaches will get them well drilled though.

There were a few shocking results last season and we conceded too many in those games, however, generally we defended well I thought. For me, we did lack some fire power besides our 2 senegal wonders. I am excitied by the idea of Santon, Debuchy, Cabaye, HBA, Cisse, Ba, Marveaux etc having a field day running at teams. Could the entertainers be back at SJP?

Yo…People are certainly wising up. Probably a good idea to work on the youth set up then. We’re going to have to start buying them younger and helping them realise their potential, rather than buying nearer the finished article.
