French International Left Back – Looking For English Club

8:23 pm, Tuesday, July 10th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 109 Comments

We had mentioned a week ago that French left-back Aly Cissokho was very keen to leave his club Lyon, and he even hired a lawyer firm, to help him get to another club this summer.

Aly Cissokho’s agent looking for a club in England for his client

And it appears that Cissokho’s agent Pierre Mathey has now been dispatched to England to look for a Premier League club, who would be willing to take the 24 year old, who has been capped once by France.

This news is in TMV and Lyon Chairman Jean-Michel Aulas is anxious to rid the club of those players who want away, and we suppose he’s been following Newcastle’s example over the last couple of years,  in only having players at the club who want to be there.

This is what Aulas said specifically about Cissokho to TMV:

“It seems Cissokho’s agent has changed his mind and that he will go”, hence that is why his agent is in England this week.”

Newcastle’s top target is Lille right back Mathieu Debuchy, and we have to think that Newcastle are working hard right now to bring the 9 times capped French International to Tyneside – as soon as possible.

And even if Newcastle cannot get Debuchy, it’s not clear that Cissokho is too high on the priority list with players like Erik Pieters of PSV Eindhoven and Vurnon Anita of Ajax, probably next in line.

The stumbling block for Cissokho in his getting a move is that his club want around £8M for him, and that was the sticking point last summer when Newcastle were rumored to be after the French-born defender, who is of Senegalese descent.

His lawyers met with Lyon officials last week, and their first priority was to try to get the fee reduced, so if they’ve got it down to say £3M, he may be worth it to Newcastle.

Otherwise there are probably players of better value already on Newcastle’s list beneath the name of  of a certain Mathieu Debuchy – who looks an excellent player.

Cissokho has 131 appearances for Lyon and two goals since joining them in 2009 from Porto.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

I’m still not convinced he’d be a good signing!

  • 2 blogkiller // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:26 PM

so i was right but who to have debuchy or cissokho

  • 3 Beattie25 // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:27 PM

    Guys I have a theory.

I locked myself in a darkened room with nothing but Mozart playing gently in the background (piano concerto in d minor), and as I sipped my cognac I pondered the multitude of possible reasons why we have not signed any players and I have found the holy grail, the chalice of the divines the key to the chamber of reason.

    Behold my conclusion.

    Merchandise.

We as toon fans sell more replica shirts per capita than any other football club. Last season we revealed our shirts in May. The advertising featured a certain Kevin Nolan, our captain, and in truth that campaign wasted a fortune as toon fans waited to see who we signed and then bought shirts without players names and eventually forgot that that home shirt was the new one for the 2011-2012 season.

Learning from that we are not revealing it until August. This means that we will announce our signings just before the shirts goes on sale. Imagine, Debuchy signs, the shirt goes on sale, we all flock to the store, buy the shirt with a name and nufc make a fortune.

It’s only logical. We should’ve announced the new look shirt ages ago but yet it is as of yet non existent! Why is that? Revenue for when we sign our big named players.

I shall now return to my bleak study as you digest this magical notion.

The lack of transfers has meant looking at the Chronicle and Tribalfootball for some football gossip.

Birmingham bid for Harps apparently turned down, can’t see that being true, they’ve just signed another keeper.

  • 5 blogkiller // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:30 PM

beattie tht is pure logic u sherlock holmes u………..

  • 6 geordie157 // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:31 PM

    Debuchy all the way!!!!!!!!!!

I haven’t brought a shirt since i made the mistake of getting Carroll on the back

  • 7 Beattie25 // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:31 PM

So an agent is travelling around clubs trying to flog his client?!

    What’s new?

  • 8 blogkiller // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:31 PM

so 1st of august hopefully will be some signings……

  • 9 graham cwarr // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:31 PM

Ketsbaia is gonna jizz when he sees this. Don’t worry kets i think this guy would be a good signing too

  • 10 BigB75 // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:32 PM

How about Twaio ( i think that ‘s how you spell it) from AC Milan?? i think he played for QPR last year!

  • 11 Beattie25 // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:37 PM

I think they’re already signed but we are holding off on announcing them to build up expectation and excitement.

All eyes will be on nufc, all newspapers/websites will go into meltdown with nufc news, all other fans will get jealous and sports direct will be plastered all over it all.

    Elementary.

It’s a marketing ploy, a successful business model, it’s mainly used in media.

For example nobody knows what’s happening with the new batman film. Critics aren’t allowed to see it or review it, actors and staff are not allowed to discuss it, suspense builds up, everyone talks about it and then bam it comes out and the whole place goes mad!

  • 12 HullMag6 // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:38 PM

I’d thought that too mystic beattie.

I pictured 4 signings two in new home kit and the other two in the away and 3rd kit. Take your pick chaps – who’s coming in.

  • 13 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:39 PM

    On that note…

I cannot wait for the new Batman movie!

  • 14 Beattie25 // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:39 PM

Does anyone know of any other clients that this guy represents??

  • 15 Beattie25 // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:41 PM

    Will batman die??

    That’s the big question y’all.

    Sod a new CB.

Does anybody else wish Bruce Wayne would buy out mike Ashley!

  • 16 SupaToonKid // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:42 PM

    BigB75

It’s Taye Taiwo and he’d be a pretty good signing but still Debuchy has got to be no. 1 target for new FB.

  • 17 mattnufc // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:43 PM

Anyone wondering about the lack of transfers, John Carver the other day on the radio said lots of players are on their hollys after Euro’s and it’s been difficult to contact them!

  • 18 HullMag6 // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:44 PM

Or 6 newbies,2 in each kit. I suppose a shot with gael and roman would make 6.

  • 19 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:44 PM

Thought tiawo had a signed a 2 year contract after his initial loan provided qpr stayed up?

  • 20 GeordieRooster // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:46 PM

Its all about john guidetti, id take cissoko but there asking daft money , id pay 5 for him , debuchys better and can play in more positions , then again ive only seen debs against england , anyway guidetti!

  • 21 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:46 PM

Bruce wayne tried to intimadate ashley buy wearing his batman suit, he ran for his life when ashley walked out in his tiote suit

  • 22 geordielad123 // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:46 PM

  • 23 SupaToonKid // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:47 PM

    TADS

nah i don’t think he has signed but they have signed that Diakite on a permanent after his loan expired

  • 24 Beattie25 // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:48 PM

Could you imagine if we got Sakho and Cissokho.

    That’s a fm 2013 managers dream.

  • 25 SupaToonKid // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:49 PM

Two days to go before the Pre-Season tour kicks off on Friday so surely we should see atleast 1 new 1st teamer in before then.

Hopefully we just announce 4-5 new signings on Thursday or Friday. I’d love that!

  • 26 GeordieToon89 // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:51 PM

Would love us to sign Sakho.. I don’t know who to choose out of Cissokho and Debuchy though :\ Cissokho is younger and a natural left back which we need more than a RB but Debuchy seems to really actually wants to play for us wereas Cissokho will play for anyone

  • 27 Beattie25 // Jul 10, 2012 at 8:52 PM

    Supa

    Thats a bloody good point.

However I think it’s going to be a nufc 11 and not the first team. Has it Ben been confirmed yet??

Hi guys, I’m a regular reader of the blog, occasionally comment every now and then. Just a thought, slightly off topic but regarding the non-announcement of our pre-season fixtures. Do you think it is something to do with what happened in Darlington last year? That they don’t want the same trouble as last time, so perhaps they aren’t selling tickets for the friendly matches outside the country (The Algarve tournament, it being a tournament, is an exception). So maybe they’re not announcing it until as late as possible?

With Cissokho, 3m would be a bargain. Would like to get Moussa Sissokho like, he’s a beast

  • 34 geordielad880 // Jul 10, 2012 at 9:18 PM

i think debuchy will sign by the end of the week, and i think we will bring in another centre back, and a young striker, but time will tell, also apparently vuckic might be going on loan to birmingham

I’m sorry but has everyone seen that link? About us being bought by Kuwaiti’s? Who would want that?

  • 39 GeordieToon89 // Jul 10, 2012 at 9:32 PM

KUWAIT: Sources at Kuwait’s Arabi Club yesterday said that its Chairman Jamal Al-Kazemi is “seriously thinking of buying the British Newcastle United football club”. They explained that “he has finalized all conditions that enable him to acquire the club by next week”.

Nehh feck off with the rubbish

  • 40 scotty17321 // Jul 10, 2012 at 9:33 PM

No way ashley would sell for 80million, I think that’s what I gathered from the article.

  • 41 magpiebop // Jul 10, 2012 at 9:34 PM

No worries fellow mags. We are stronger already wii the players from last season settled, our younguns are bigger n stronger and more experienced. Especially can’t wait to see Vuckic on the left of a midfield 3 wii Tiote and Cabaye!

  • 42 SupaToonKid // Jul 10, 2012 at 9:35 PM

    Geordie-Jake

Very interesting; even more so if it’s true but definitely could be after our super season.

  • 43 GeordieToon89 // Jul 10, 2012 at 9:36 PM

No way were getting taken over by the Kuwait bank director… Can’t find anything to state his worth or anything

  • 44 GeordieToon89 // Jul 10, 2012 at 9:38 PM

No way on earth is Ashley willing to sell us for less than £80million.. maybe 80million ontop of the £150million we already owe him then thats fair enough around £230million

  • 45 GeordieToon89 // Jul 10, 2012 at 9:39 PM

I dont actually want Ashley to leave just yet were building well.. maybe someone could come in and invest in the team more but i’m happy

  • 46 GeordieToon89 // Jul 10, 2012 at 9:42 PM

  • 51 Beattie25 // Jul 10, 2012 at 9:52 PM

Whilst I don’t believe I that Kuwati business man purchasing our club this week, it would explain the lack of transfer activity,

  • 52 dave 1961 // Jul 10, 2012 at 9:52 PM

no thanks Kuwait but i hear theirs a odd bunch about 8 miles down the road you could have for about £80 as long as you pay in cash and don’t want a vat receipt.

  • 53 Sazzer // Jul 10, 2012 at 9:54 PM

    GeordieToon89
Did I miss any news on Debuchy, because it looks like it might be Cissokho instead. And Bosingawa sign for who?

  • 54 Billythefish // Jul 10, 2012 at 9:54 PM

On the other hand why buy players if he’s selling??? Just a thought.

Sazzer – Bosingwa is close to signing for Lille as Debuchys replacement

  • 56 DannyA // Jul 10, 2012 at 9:55 PM

mmmm would love a transfer embargo right now haha

  • 57 Jagger // Jul 10, 2012 at 9:56 PM

Dont expect any major deals until late August guys, this is how it goes. We make a slightly lower than realistic bid for a player, leave it on the table, and hope the selling club cave in and sell once the player becomes unsettled. Selling clubs dont want to rush into selling because they are hoping another club will offer more or we will get desperate and increase our offer. So we have a stalemate.
I do admire us for not overpaying like we used to, but it could get risky.
Example: Club bids £3m for Simmo, no doubt the board will sell. We dont want to pay more than £6m for Debuchy so we wait and hope Lille will eventually sell. In the meantime Clyne gets snapped up so a back up option is gone. Lille dont need the money so dont budge. We end up starting the season with Tav and Raylor as our right backs. Not a disaster but not exactly an upgrade on last season.

  • 58 Sazzer // Jul 10, 2012 at 9:57 PM

If the price is right I guess Ashley will sell even himself.

  • 59 Nick 69 // Jul 10, 2012 at 9:59 PM

  • 66 MacToon // Jul 10, 2012 at 10:09 PM

Nottingham Forest have been taken over and there is a newsletter about it on their website…..

IF he sells (and it’s a big IF) for £80 mill that would have to be with the debt still owing to him which could be anywhere upto £270 mil so he could effectively get £350 mil for the club, he’d sell then I’d guess lol.

  • 67 nufc13789 // Jul 10, 2012 at 10:13 PM

Oil money taking over the Tyneside? Does it come with Ibrahimovich, Xavi, and Messi?

  • 70 Zero // Jul 10, 2012 at 10:16 PM

Ashleys about profit, if the Kuwaits offer him significant profit from his investment he will sell, at the moment NUFC is a speculative investment for him with no guarentee on a more profitable season next year.

I personally am not sure about wanting silly money investors as any triumphs we obtain after fact will be ‘worthless’ and the unwashed down the road wont let us forget it regardless of if we do it with the team set up by the current charges.

Although just think of all those mouth watering signings we could have….hmmmmm

  • 71 Toon_USA // Jul 10, 2012 at 10:17 PM

@Geordie157 I did the same thing with Andy Cole when he moved to Man U.

I personally would like to have Debuchy over Cissikho. His crossing looks fantastic and no doubt, will link up really well with Cabaye.

  • 72 Sazzer // Jul 10, 2012 at 10:19 PM

  • 73 Zero // Jul 10, 2012 at 10:23 PM

Also anyone who wants to even consider that the oil money is coming, the value of the club must be significantly higher now than in the past 5 years, simply due to the assets we have aquired such as Cabs, HBA, Toite, Cisse, Ba their ‘value’ alone is bordering on the 60-70mill mark.

  • 81 FatmanJoe // Jul 10, 2012 at 10:32 PM

I really don’t want to buy success. After waiting for so long I don’t simply want to do a city and buy it.

I’m really proud of what we’re doing at the moment and really think we’re going somewhere.

  • 82 FatmanJoe // Jul 10, 2012 at 10:33 PM

Plus I think this story is 2 years old. There’s no way we can valued as low as 80m. Surely?!

  • 83 Taking the Papiss // Jul 10, 2012 at 10:35 PM

I know. The guy from Portsmouth had been involved with city though but has no money of his own. I have worked in the middle-east and there are huge numbers of rich people, but let’s remember our owner is already a BILLIONAIRE, anything less than that would be extremely bad for the future of the club.

Apparently city’s now owner approached Ashley before city but he didnt want to sell at the time. That was a missed opportunity (anyone that says they don’t want rich owners is crazy, can you imagine having their team), but now I want to stick with Ashley. ReMember end of Ashley may be the end of Pards, Graham Carr etc which I think would be awful

  • 84 MacToon // Jul 10, 2012 at 10:36 PM

FatmanJoe, that figure quoted would be for buying the club and the debt would remain to Ashley, I said £270 mil earlier but thinking back to the last accounts it was nearer £240 mil (might be more or less now, who knows) so that’d be £320 for the club in total with it’s current debt. Sounds about right for ashley imo.

  • 85 Zebras4Life // Jul 10, 2012 at 10:38 PM

Well he controls the money in the middle east! I wouldnt worry about cash flow issues. Furthermore, this wealthy man is carrying the body of a former Kuwait National GK to his ceremony of death. The guy obviously surrounds himself with people who are heavily invested in footie. I would say money and footie are his passions!

  • 86 GeordieToon89 // Jul 10, 2012 at 10:41 PM

Taking the papiss – the reason Citys owner didnt buy us instead of City was when he approached Ashley he was told he wanted over 500million to buy us which well was ridiculous for our club

  • 87 Beardo // Jul 10, 2012 at 10:42 PM

    I love Mike Ashley.

  • 88 Zebras4Life // Jul 10, 2012 at 10:42 PM

Well if Lee Ryder says the sale is off then…We must be close to signing Mats Hummels

  • 89 Taking the Papiss // Jul 10, 2012 at 10:44 PM

And then he put up the club for sale 2 weeks later.

I still personally hope it isn’t true- if we could guarantee massive investment then fine but that isn’t going to happen at this stage…

The possibility has been dashed already anyway so not worth worrying about anymore I guess!

  • 90 leeb1982 // Jul 10, 2012 at 10:45 PM

Happy with way the club is operating but if this is true(which I doubt). I can’t believe people are concerned about our managers and scout. Who wouldn’t wanna do a city. Imagine us signing players of the calibre of hazard, muniain. Ooooh would be amazing. Don’t believe it one bit tho

Interesting one, isn’t it? I think about a year ago most fans would welcome a takeover. However the system we have in place now is working and are club is stable.

I think Mike, like he does with players, would sell if the right offer came in. He’s a business man and probably won’t fall that much in love with Newcastle to reject a good profit for him. If a takeover did happen, it certainly wouldn’t be for £80 Million.

Just finished watching “Man on a ledge” :) very good movie.

…So what did I miss? …besides yet another story about a possible takeover?

It wouldn’t be OV then just OIL…

Yeh, I’m still dubious regarding MA but he is doing the right things for our club, by accident or design.

Beardo- just wanna see us win summit. Im almost 30 n been watching since 8/9. Hate to be a 60-70 year supporter. Lol

This takeover business is a non story. Besides MA is doing a decent job. Im happy with things. Id rather not have them messed around with again.

    @MFH

Very witty good sir. However, I’d be gutted to see the club I adore transformed from a team to a band of mercenaries. I don’t want a team worth 250 million quid and a manager that is paid 7.5million quid a year. That’s not heritage, it’s treading over everything that we are trying to do as a club.

Think it is a non-starter as MA knows that if we continue along this path for a few years and decides to sell he will get a lot more than the 80mill that was touted in that article.

God I love those fortune cookie wisdom ;)

He is one for you mate:

“Depart not from the path to which you have been assigned”

  • 102 jesperfuglsang // Jul 10, 2012 at 11:02 PM

    * He = here ;)

…or maybe that should have been for MA ;) lol

  • 103 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 10, 2012 at 11:04 PM

Jesper lad I am full of these sayings I don’t know if you’ve noticed :P

Jesper that saying is very apt in this current situation regarding the whole ‘selling the club’ story. Mike has a 5 year plan, assuming the 5 year plan has only really come into affect post relegation surely there still is a couple of years to see this plan out. So he has been assigned a path and let’s hope he sees it out.

  • 104 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 10, 2012 at 11:05 PM

Jesper maybe Mike is the one for me,

Where has he been all my life, life, life! :D

funny how a mistake ends up making sense :) lol

  • 106 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 10, 2012 at 11:10 PM

Something of a Freudian slip, it’s disguised as a mistake but could be what you really meant all along… :P

I don’t doubt MA will stay on…of course there is no guarantees in football, but these stories seems to surface every year :)

    These days I just smile!

I would like to just remind everyone about these so called financial fair play rules that come in to effect in a years time. Do we really want the club to be taken over now when it’s just becoming self sustaining??? I personally don’t and for that reason I prey to god these rumours are false.
