We had mentioned a week ago that French left-back Aly Cissokho was very keen to leave his club Lyon, and he even hired a lawyer firm, to help him get to another club this summer.
Aly Cissokho’s agent looking for a club in England for his client
And it appears that Cissokho’s agent Pierre Mathey has now been dispatched to England to look for a Premier League club, who would be willing to take the 24 year old, who has been capped once by France.
This news is in TMV and Lyon Chairman Jean-Michel Aulas is anxious to rid the club of those players who want away, and we suppose he’s been following Newcastle’s example over the last couple of years, in only having players at the club who want to be there.
This is what Aulas said specifically about Cissokho to TMV:
“It seems Cissokho’s agent has changed his mind and that he will go”, hence that is why his agent is in England this week.”
Newcastle’s top target is Lille right back Mathieu Debuchy, and we have to think that Newcastle are working hard right now to bring the 9 times capped French International to Tyneside – as soon as possible.
And even if Newcastle cannot get Debuchy, it’s not clear that Cissokho is too high on the priority list with players like Erik Pieters of PSV Eindhoven and Vurnon Anita of Ajax, probably next in line.
The stumbling block for Cissokho in his getting a move is that his club want around £8M for him, and that was the sticking point last summer when Newcastle were rumored to be after the French-born defender, who is of Senegalese descent.
His lawyers met with Lyon officials last week, and their first priority was to try to get the fee reduced, so if they’ve got it down to say £3M, he may be worth it to Newcastle.
Otherwise there are probably players of better value already on Newcastle’s list beneath the name of of a certain Mathieu Debuchy – who looks an excellent player.
Cissokho has 131 appearances for Lyon and two goals since joining them in 2009 from Porto.
What do you think?

I locked myself in a darkened room with nothing but Mozart playing gently in the background (piano concerto in d minor), and as I sipped my cognac I pondered the multitude of possible reasons why we have not signed any players and I have found the holy grail, the chalice of the divines the key to the chamber of reason.
Behold my conclusion.
Merchandise.
We as toon fans sell more replica shirts per capita than any other football club. Last season we revealed our shirts in May. The advertising featured a certain Kevin Nolan, our captain, and in truth that campaign wasted a fortune as toon fans waited to see who we signed and then bought shirts without players names and eventually forgot that that home shirt was the new one for the 2011-2012 season.
Learning from that we are not revealing it until August. This means that we will announce our signings just before the shirts goes on sale. Imagine, Debuchy signs, the shirt goes on sale, we all flock to the store, buy the shirt with a name and nufc make a fortune.
It’s only logical. We should’ve announced the new look shirt ages ago but yet it is as of yet non existent! Why is that? Revenue for when we sign our big named players.
I shall now return to my bleak study as you digest this magical notion.

Comment #4The lack of transfers has meant looking at the Chronicle and Tribalfootball for some football gossip.
Birmingham bid for Harps apparently turned down, can’t see that being true, they’ve just signed another keeper.

Comment #11I think they’re already signed but we are holding off on announcing them to build up expectation and excitement.
All eyes will be on nufc, all newspapers/websites will go into meltdown with nufc news, all other fans will get jealous and sports direct will be plastered all over it all.
Elementary.
It’s a marketing ploy, a successful business model, it’s mainly used in media.
For example nobody knows what’s happening with the new batman film. Critics aren’t allowed to see it or review it, actors and staff are not allowed to discuss it, suspense builds up, everyone talks about it and then bam it comes out and the whole place goes mad!

Comment #25Two days to go before the Pre-Season tour kicks off on Friday so surely we should see atleast 1 new 1st teamer in before then.
Hopefully we just announce 4-5 new signings on Thursday or Friday. I’d love that!

Comment #26Would love us to sign Sakho.. I don’t know who to choose out of Cissokho and Debuchy though :\ Cissokho is younger and a natural left back which we need more than a RB but Debuchy seems to really actually wants to play for us wereas Cissokho will play for anyone

Comment #31Hi guys, I’m a regular reader of the blog, occasionally comment every now and then. Just a thought, slightly off topic but regarding the non-announcement of our pre-season fixtures. Do you think it is something to do with what happened in Darlington last year? That they don’t want the same trouble as last time, so perhaps they aren’t selling tickets for the friendly matches outside the country (The Algarve tournament, it being a tournament, is an exception). So maybe they’re not announcing it until as late as possible?
With Cissokho, 3m would be a bargain. Would like to get Moussa Sissokho like, he’s a beast
