The Newcastle team to start against FC Chemnitzer in Chemnitz tonight gives a first start to 22 year-old new signing Romain Amalfitano.
The game will kick off at 6:30 pm local time, which is in about 15 minutes time, at the Stadion an der Gellertstraße in Chemnitz.
The midfielder is part of a very young Newcastle line-up with chances being given to 20 year-old James Tavernier, 19 year-old Mehdi Abeid, 19 year-old Harris Vuckic and 20 year-old Sammy Ameobi, as well as to Amalfitano.
Rob Elliot gets a chance in goal to show how good he is, and veteran Steve Harper warms the bench, with number one goalkeeper Tim Krul still taking time off, after being part of the Dutch squad for the Euro 2012 tournament.
On the subs bench and likely to get a run-out is our other new signing – Gael Bigirimana from Coventry City – and it’s not surprising that manager Alan Pardew wants to take a look at some of Newcastle’s very promising youngsters tonight.
Also on the bench are some of Newcastle’s big guns like Demba Ba and Jonas Gutierrez, and Danny Simpson, who has today been linked with Reading, is also on the bench for tonight’s game.

man we can really suck at times. how we lost that match i don’t know-as i couldn’t watch the bloody thing. But really being a friendly and pre-season and all don’t u think the young lads would want to give it their all to impress Pardew so they are part of his plans? Ibiza – It sucks I couldn’t watch the game but I think we’ve bought 2 gems already in Amalfitano and Bigi. They are ones for the future probably next season. Willo and Simmo so worry me though. They are obviously the weak links in our team and they a prone to costly mistakes. I hope Pardew knows this better than all of us and will rectify this with Douglas and Debuchy. That said I wouldn’t like to be either sold as they a decent players and can be great back-up.

Ibiza – I can’t wait for Debuchy to be a done deal. I think we’re going to get Douglas also, just a matter of waiting till the end of august for him. Who else would you like us to sign. I would have loved Mavin Martin and Mbiwa. Martin has moved clubs I believe but what about Mbiwa? He can play anywhere across the back four, speaks french, is captain of his team so has leadership qualities ala Colo.

Great result.
It means a few of the lads got 90 minutes in and were chasing the game.
It also means Pardew can use it to fire them up in the next few training sessions.
Losing in pre-season can be very good motivation to step up the gears and try harder.

JP….I’m hoping for those 2 personally. Apart from that, i’m quite easy going about the whole thing. Besides Ba from his time at West Ham, I knew nothing of our purchases last year and have full faith in Carr, Pardew and even big Mike.
Hatem…Agreed. Pardew will use this to his advantage imo. He seems to be able to motivate the team well when things aren’t looking great. It’s not like we were hammered, although, before hand, I would have expected a win tbh.
