Maybe Fabricio Coloccini hasn’t yet got the word fully from Alan Pardew, that the plan this summer is to significantly dampen expectations for next season, as once again the Newcastle captain has come out and said the lads can have as good a season as the last one.

Fab mustn’t have checked with his manager Alan Pardew, but the Argentine is glad to be back at Newcastle, after six weeks away from the game, and he seems to have been missing his football while he’s been in Argentina:
“It is good to be back in training and we have had six weeks without football. I spent a lot of time with family and friends over the summer, but you miss football and it is nice to be back kicking a ball around again.”
“We are back into the hard work now. Pre-season training is always tough but you need it. We have a long season ahead of us so you need this work to prepare you for it.”
“We are going to have to work really hard, with Europe as well as the league and the cups this year.” “It will be tough but there is no reason why we can’t have another year like the last one, because we are a good team.”
“Newcastle have gone a lot of years without playing in Europe and it will be a nice experience for us.” “Playing in Europe is what every player wants, and it is great for the Club as well. We deserve it after a lot of hard work.
“We have to enjoy every minute of it.”
Fabricio was speaking on the Newcastle web-site from eastern Germany last night, where the lads play their first pre-season friendly against Chemnitzer tonight at 6:30 pm local time, in the German town of Chemnitz.
Coloccini will be the first man this season to captain Newcastle United back into European competition for a long six years – that’s just too long.
