Newcastle have lots of excellent youngsters on board already, with the likes of Shane Ferguson, Gael Bigirimana, Haris Vuckic, Sammy Ameobi, Mehdi Abeid and James Tavernier, to mention just six of our top youngsters.
Sammy Ameobi in training – whoops!
Newcastle still hope to make three big signings this summer, but manager Alan Pardew said yesterday it could be as long as two weeks before any new players arrive through the door at Newcastle, so we suppose we;’ll have to be just a little patient.
Certainly Newcastle’s hoped to get Luuk de Jong, Douglas and Mathieu Debuchy through the door quickly but that has failed, and the Magpies have already given up on the Dutch 21 year-old striker.
But we also have to remember that any one of our top youngsters can come through big time this season, and certainly manager Pardew says he will give the young lads every chance.
“There is nothing fans cheer more than when a young player has come through the ranks.” ’We have players with great potential. I could spend six or seven million on someone who isn’t better than these if they realize that.”
“We could make a big error thinking we can get someone better than them.” ’The priority for this club is the Premier League and I’ve said that from day one, that’s where our aspirations are. The cups are our second priority, all the cups, and they will get chances in those.”
It’s also interesting to hear Alan say that the Premier League is the major priority this year, after last season he put more emphasis on the Cups, as a means to potentially have Newcastle win something for the first time in 43 years.
We kind of liked that idea.
What do you think?

This possibly suggests we may not be going to sign our targets !
2 Dannyo // Jul 13, 2012 at 9:40 AM
@Jail
A gamble that worked like a charm imo tho.
Ye, i mean, we were quoted to be in with £12 mill for De Jong. Even that’s a risk, but obviously one worth taking for MA and crew.
Altho, MA did leave us with Perch in January

Is it just me or has everyone forgotten about last seasons 10 million bid for Kevin Gamerio. Why don’t we go for him again and get him on the cheap from PSG? As he hardly featured last season.

I think this suggests what many of us have thought for a while.
PL will be our priority and we will likely field our strongest team. The cups will be used for rotation and bedding in the young players, this will likely include the EL.
I can’t say I disagree. Does anyone think this is our year to win the EL? For a lot of our boys it will be their first outing in European competition, so I think it would be a mistake to go all out for it, as the expense of the League.
For me, we need to try and match where we ended last season, whilst getting some European experience for next season (which we’ll qualify for by our league position) and maybe a nice cup run (if possible).
I don’t read that we’re not going to be signing anyone or our “targets” (whether first, second or third target), just that he wants to push the youth, as he has said all along.

Mind you I am all for giving the kids a chance, but if I am honest only abeid, vuckic and fergy look like they could make the step up. Young Sammy needs to go out on loan imo. Hope I am wrong and they all get their chance, especially Tav – saw him against Orlando last year and he looked very good

18 SupaToonKid // Jul 13, 2012 at 9:47 AM
The deal for Anita looks likely to be off as Ajax have inflated his price massively but of course he is a versatile player but do you think he was being brought in as a FB or CDM as is primary role?
Cause if it was CDM then maybe we’re still in the market for a CDM (Matuidi looks available). We all know Pards wants a FB, CB & CF and wants the youngsters to have a go but i still think even after that we’ll need another forward like Hoilett to sign but as well when you take Tiote out of CDM i still feel uneasy with who will come in to replace him (Jonas & Gosling/Perch?).
Pardew has emphasised the need for the youth to get their chance but i’m sure they will & some may be better off going out on loan (Tavernier possibley). Even if we signed 5 players lets say. A FB (Debuchy), CB (Sakho), CDM (Matuidi), 2 FWs (Castaignos & Hoilett) i still think a number of youngsters would get games.
I still think that a number of the youngsters do not have enough 1st team experience to be relied on so heavily as we seem to wanting to do so. I think a number of them can come in like they’ve proven Sammy, Fergie, Vuckic & Abeid but others such as Tavernier & Bigirimana possibly need some loan time in the Championship to get going.
4 PLAYERS I THINK ARE NEEDED (3 AT THE BARE MINIMUM) BUT 5 PLAYERS WOULD DEFINITELY GIVE US THE LUXURY OF ALLOWING A YOUNGSTERS TO GO OUT ON LOAN AND FEATURE IN FIRST TEAMS FOR CHAMPIONSSHIP SIDES.

The Prayers of the Blog faithful have been answered. I think we’d all have been happy with who we brought in for whatever position (part from Ketsbaia who has been dissapointed many times this Window) but we all (vast majority) wanted Debuchy and now it looks like were nearly there. HWTL!
27 Beattie25 // Jul 13, 2012 at 9:52 AM

33 Dannyo // Jul 13, 2012 at 9:54 AM
£7 mill fee agreed for Debuchy. It’s reasonable for an international imo, we got £6 for Enrique.
Hopefully sorted over the weekend.

39 Munster Mag // Jul 13, 2012 at 10:40 AM
It will be interesting to see how our young guys fare. In reality they did very little for us last season, despite the clubs noise to the contrary.
40 89Norcal // Jul 13, 2012 at 6:39 PM
Really wish we’d snag up John Guidetti, he won’t get a lick of playing time at City.
