Newcastle Agree Fee For Debuchy – Deal Close

Let’s hope this news in the Daily Mail today is true, and that a £7M fee offered by Newcastle, has now been accepted by his French club Lille.

Mathieu Debuchy – in action against England last month

If that’s the case, then it should be a fairly easy job to agree terms with the French international, with his wages at Newcastle maybe as much as three times what he is getting at the former French Champions.

And if this deal goes through,  we’ll have Yohan Cabaye to thank, since he’s been persuading his pal to come to Tyneside all this year, and it looks like he will now succeed.

There’s little doubt that Debuchy will be a terrific signing for Newcastle, and he should strengthen the Newcastle back four this season,  and Danny Simpson will be able to leave to join Reading, and Newcastle will recoup at least £2M for the former Manchester United player.

That will help soften the fact that Mathieu didn’t come as cheap as Newcastle had hoped.  The Magpies had a  previous bid of £4M rejected out of hand by Lille.

And the other highly interested club, Inter-Milan also had a bid rejected, but it looks like Newcastle have stolen a march on the Italian club, by agreeing a fee with Lille for the player.

Newcastle had hoped to get Mathieu for a fee less than £7M, maybe the £4M it took to get Cabaye to Newcastle last summer.

But with other clubs interested in him, and knowing how savvy Newcastle have been in the transfer market over the last couple of years, and that coupled with Debuchy’s excellent form in the Euro201 tournament have raised his price.

But he should still turn out to be a great buy for Newcastle,  and now we just have to wait and see if  the club can get this lad through the door – as soon as possible.

Here’s hoping.

Hopefully he’ll come. Getting worried that no actually first team players have been bought yet.

If it’s true then I’m delighted. Really want to see him playing in black and white next season. Think he will give us an attacking threat on the overlap down the right. He linked up well with Ben Arfa for France in the pre-Euros friendly vs Serbia (?).

Also, just written a post on our very own Coloccini for my blog over at:
    http://www.extratimeandpenalties.com

Hope you enjoy reading. I know he’s everyone’s favourite curly haired defender!

    I know I’m a little late here but –

To be fair to Simpson, an awful lot of full backs back off far too much. It’s just the easiest and safest thing to do.

I think we were a little spoilt by Enrique – I’m genuinely not sure I’ve ever seen a defender at Newcastle so brilliant at making standing tackles. His timing of when to step in and get his foot in was absolutely perfect.

Simpson doesn’t seem confident enough to do so, and if he hasn’t got that confidence now – at his age, in a fairly good Newcastle team – he probably never will.

In response to comments about Debuchy bombing forward all the time, that’s really irrlevant. I’m a big fan of defensive football, but football has changed. Full backs aren’t there to be defenders, they’re there to run from deep and stretch the play, provide width and scare the crap out of the opposition.

Although it seems easy to say – seeing as he’s probably the best full back in the world – Alves has got to be the blueprint for modern FBs. He completely dominates the entire right side of the pitch, and despite also getting regular ‘no good at defending comments’, he’s regularly had C.Ronaldo – the best winger in the world – in his pocket.

From what I’ve heard the fee could be €7m which equates to £5.5m which seems much better from our perspective. Regardless, even at £7m, Debuchy is a great signing.

weve shown with cisse and attempt at de jong that once carr has fully signed off on a player we will spend the muller. 7mill is still a good deal for a player just reaching his peak

Always got to worry that this is just the Daily Mail rehashing yesterday’s story, with a slight twist.

I guess they were the paper to break our transfers last year though.

I think Abeid will be better than Cabaye and Tiote. He will break into the team this season. Great player. Not sure on Douglas. I want a centre-back who has an eye for a goal (i.e. Alderewerield).

2m for Simpson is a joke considering his age, ability, nationality and attitude. Plus he never gets injured.

Only thing is his contract time left.

Should be at least 4m definitely.

if he had longer left on his contract then i agree 4mil + for Simmo! considering Toon are only willing to pay 5mil tops for Douglas with 12 months contract left dont think 3 mil for Simpson is bad at all with it being the same situation.

True but Simpson is tested in this league and wouldn’t need an adjustment period. Douglas will.

I think Sammy is going to be more productive than Vuckic. I like Vuckic a lot but his injuries do hinder his progress a bit so here’s hoping he is healthy this coming season. Both have bright futures, but I think Sammi, Bigi, and Ferguson will be our breakout youngsters this year. Tav and Vuckic could break out next year.

If this is true then it is a great signing.
Simpson is an honest fully committed player but is so uncomfortable with the ball. I think he’s fine defensively, not great but no worse than most others. It’s his inability to attack that lets the team down.
Debuchy is probably no better at defending than Simpson but he’s 10 times better going forward.
I hope we get it sorted!

well in truth Simpson is a very solid right back who always gave his best so people have no right to talk bad on him like that

Debuchy would be a major upgrade in terms of overall play we will need to see him play half a season to see whether he will have the same passion that Simpson had ..

Silly though that Simpson is leaving to Reading who are offering him the same wages we offered him and he turned down , the irony of football sometimes

If we sell Simpson at 4m its a joke. How many English defenders from a top 5 team that played all year round go for that much. Don’t wanna sell him to be honest.

Fingers crossed this happens. Then Douglas next. Kjaer if cheap might be worth getting too. Although it was paper nonsense, bojan would be a good addition too. Hoilett seems unlikely, so maybe castaignos or zaha
