Newcastle Step Up Pace On Four Pending Transfers

9:08 am, Saturday, July 14th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 26 Comments

There was a whole lot of news yesterday about Newcastle United and most of it seemed to be positive, and there now has to be hope that Newcastle United will bring in at least two top players over the next week.

Mathieu Debuchy - Newcastle bid £7M for French International

Newcastle were linked with three potential incoming deals and one player going out, and this seems the status on each one of the potential moves:

  • Mathieu Debuchy – It looks like Newcastle have finally gone in with their second bid and if the news is to be believed we have bid a good £7M for the French International, and the news was that his club Lille would accept the offer.   We have to remember that Inter-Milan are still trying to get the player to Italy, but it would appear from the news yesterday that Newcastle were firmly in the driver’s seat.
    Mathieu Debuchy would be a terrific signing for Newcastle.
  • Douglas - It would appear that FC Twente have accepted Newcastle’s bid of £5M for the Brazilian, and the difficulty has been on Douglas’ side of things, but it seems that Newcastle have moved in and will try to tie up the signing of the 6’4″ center-back within the next week.
    That would be a very good move by Newcastle with Douglas interesting many other big clubs.
  • Junior Hoilett – I’d be surprised if we can get this lad to Tyneside, and QPR andf Tottenham have both talked to the player about a new contract, as well as Newcastle - but he is off to Burussia Monchengladbach, and the odds have to be in the German club’s favor that they sign him over the weekend.
    They will offer him a decent wage and European Champions League football, and he’s already played a season on loan in Germany at SC Paderborn 07 and also a season at FC St. Paul.
  • Danny Simpson - There was news yesterday that Reading had won the race to sign Danny Simpson, and we think Danny has already cooked his goose at Newcastle by not signing the new deal the club have been trying to have him pen  for over a year now.
    But any Simpson move will not happen until Mathieu Debuchy signs along the dotted line, and Newcastle may not have even been interested if Danny had signed his news deal last summer.
    That’s how things happen in football sometimes, and if Newcastle sign Debuchy it seems that Danny will join his namesake – Danny Guthrie – at Reading.

Now that Newcastle have started their first mini-European tour, they will be anxious to get the new players in, especially Debuchy, but Douglas will need to stay in Germany until the end of August to fulfil FIFA residency requirements so he can play for Holland in the future.

That seems the situation on four players that were involved in the news yesterday about Newcastle – and most of it was positive.

What do you think?

    If it’s about money – Hoilett will go to the biggest wallet.
    If it’s the European stage then QPR are out and Borussia Munchinflapjack are favourites.
    If it’s about playing time, he’ll favour QPR over us and us over Tottenham – I reckon he’d get fewer opportunities at Spuds, but could be wrong.
    Quite laid back about him – but would like the quality of Debuchy – I think he’s got to be a better crosser than Simmo- and the back-up of having 4 CBs Colo, Taylor / Douglas, Willo – in that order so Douglas, Sakho etc would be nice.

    Losing friendlies isn’t brilliant but it shouldn’t be of huge importance, as in many seasons the campaign has panned out opposite to what the results were in pre-season. Re-building fitness throughout the squad and ironing out a few tactical issues is most important.

    Just hope we can make a break through with Debuchy and Douglas and a forward soon.

    Average £62 to watch game at Arsenal next year. Band A games £126. I wonder what our attendance would be if we charged these prices, its way too much to watch a game of footy imo!

    apparently borussia mönchengladbach also want (or is their 2nd target) Tim Matavz from PSV (slovenian international)..psv bought him last year for 7 mio..but then they changed managers & apparently advocaat wants to cash in on him..

  • 25 ThaiMag // Jul 14, 2012 at 9:48 AM

    @12
    I’m about to form the shortest name in EPL. lol

    @18
    I never heard of him. I started watching football in 1996-97 and NUFC was the first team that I watched. That game ended with the result Newcastle 7-1 Spurs. So I’ve been a NUFC fan ever since. :)

    Center back first off.

    Then another forward.

    Maybe central midfielder.
