FC Twente defender Douglas says he knows nothing about a €4M bid said to be lodged by Newcastle for the 6’4″ center-back, and that news was reported early on Thursday.
Douglas – now says he ants to stay at Twente
In fact today it has been reported that both Fulham and West Ham United have also put in bids for the player, although exactly what’s true and what’s not, is hard to understand. What’s new?
The Brazilian needs to spend time until late August in Holland, and he will then be able to become a Dutch citizen and also play for Holland, and in that case he would not need to apply for a work permit to play in England.
Sky Sports was first to report the news that Newcastle lodged their first bid of €4M for the defender, but today Douglas says he knows nothing about that bid, as he told TC Tubantia:
“I and my agent know nothing of a bid from Newcastle.” “I want to stay at Twente this season.”
Of course it depends on which agent Douglas is talking about, because one of the difficulties Newcastle have had with this player, is to understand which agent represents the Brazilian.
And it’s the first time we’ve heard Douglas say he wants to stay at FC Twente, since other times the word on him was that he was anxious to move on from the Dutch club and play in England’s Premier League.
This is what he had to say on June 5th in the report we issued at that time:
“I have spent five years at Twente and have done my best for the club,” “I have won the title, the cup – it’s time for a next step.”
“Five clubs are interested and there’s a bigger club than Newcastle.” “I cannot still say anything about it, but I hope soon to have my new club.”
“I have personally been in touch with Ajax and immediately said that I’m not interested,” “I want to go abroad as I have outgrown the league.
“I noticed this year that I am sometimes a little too easy going down, then you make mistakes. I want to be tested every week.”
So this is just a little confusing, and we don’t exactly know what to believe about Douglas these days.
Maybe he realizes if he becomes a free agent next summer then he will be able to get a much better financial deal, and since he turns 25 in January, presumably FC Twente would not be owed any compensation for their player.
But that’s also one reason why FC Twente will probably want to sell him this summer, whatever they put out for public consumption.
Who’s next in line if Newcastle cannot get this guy?

Comment #2To be fair it’s never been confirmed that we’re in for Douglas, just speculation and rumour.
Debuchy abd Carroll I think, are the only players we know we have a real interest in at this stage, with debuchy being the more certain if and when Lille find a replacement.

Comment #5Well if Douglas doesn’t want to come to us then that’s fair enough. We only want players that are chomping at the bit to pull on the black and white for NUFC.
So now it is a case of moving on to the next target.

Comment #6TDS, another post for you last thread, I hate it when people copy/paste onto a different thread so I’m practicing what I preach lol read if you wish.
As for this deal, I just think it’s all done and dusted but we have to wait until his papers are through for him to play for Holland and then it will be announced.

Comment #8Whilst this transfer window is frustrating….be sure to know that Llambias & co. are currently working behind the scenes to push through these deals.
I would take this news with a pinch of salt, as these sites are looking for clicks & are prone to spouting the odd lie from time to time.
I get the feeling we’ll see Debuchy at St James’ Park next week, & hopefully this Douglas deal still goes through.
As for Anita, as much as I’d like to see him in our squad ready for next season, I’m not sure Newcastle are going to be held hostage over any sudden inflated prices for him (Ajax are not desperate to sell)
If we DO manage to sign these 3 players, I’d sit back with a nice beer & toast a hopefully successful next season (a top 5 standing..& possibly silverware..who knows!)
As for strikers, well I’d like us to go in Guidetti (young & talented) or Gameiro (linked with us in the past, fallen down the pecking order at PSG, bags of pace) for me.
I acknowledge that most Toon fans (as well as the board) still have a soft spot for AC…but I’d rather we look to the future & use that money for other hidden gems & talents. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t mind AC back at Newcastle..but as long as he’s willing to take a pay cut, understand that we have a new no. 9 & that he’d have to work hard to get back into the starting 11.
Excuse the rant, but I wanted to get my thoughts out on this..as well as this being my first post in this blog!

Hey, it must be transfer silly season; nobody has the slightest clue what we are doing; who we really want; who we have truly placed bids for. It would appear that 98% of the lies we see printed just aint true – how amazing lol

Comment #21Didn’t Douglas come out stating his desire to leave FC Twente some time ago?
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4355985/Douglas-ready-to-leave-FC-Twente-with-Newcastle-interested.html
“I cannot still say anything about it but I hope soon to have my new club.”
Douglas has been with Twente since 2007 but now looks set for a move to pastures new.
He added: “I have spent five years here and have done my best for the club.
“I have won the title, the cup — it’s time for a next step.
“I have personally been in touch with Ajax and immediately said that I’m not interested.
“I want to go abroad as I have outgrown the league.”
Now he wants to stay another season at Twente??
I don’t buy it.

Comment #30Even if we don’t get someone “good” in we still have excellent players at the club.
Sure enough we could do with an upgrade in a few spots and a bit more depth but the first team doesn’t need that much doing to it, other than perhaps a better RB and a ball playing CB.
Failing that then Simmo can play with Tav clipping at his heels and we can all pray Saylor stays fit for a season.
Seriously I don’t know why everyone is so stressed
hatem or love him
