Newcastle Bid For Brazilian Will Be Rejected

The transfer saga with FC Twente center-back Douglas has been going on a long time, and last week there were reports that Newcastle had agreed a fee of £5M for the Brazilian and news on Tuesday night that Newcastle had offered €4M (about £3.14) for the player.

Douglas – FC Twente want £5M for the player

The news is that the Newcastle Board have been in regular contact with Twente about the player and almost three weeks ago Derek Llambias and Secretary Lee Charnley made a weekend trip to Enschede to tie up the deals for Luuk de Jong and Douglas.

That was not successful and De Jong signed for Boruaaia Monchengladbach, try saying that quickly after a couple of pints, and it seems Newcastle may be in danger of losing out on their second FC Twente target.

Douglas is out of contract next summer, so in truth that seems a reasonable bid for the player, but certainly Newcastle are not as far along in getting the 6’4″ Brazilian to Newcastle, as earlier reports would have us believe.

The fee for Luuk de Jong is thought to have been only £10M – plus some add-ons – so Newcastle certainly lost out on the 21 year-old Dutch striker, but he didn’t want to come to Newcastle – so there’s not much the Newcastle Board could do about that.

Silly lad.

Fulham and West Ham are suspected of also being interested in Douglas, but Newcastle will continue their hard bargaining of recent years, although we have had no success this summer so far, but we’ve also known for Newcastle to wait,  if they cannot get good deals.

That was true last summer when we  didn’t sign a striker to replace Andy Carroll, even though they tried to get Modibo Maiga from Sochaux, but he signed for West Ham this week for an undisclosed fee – probably around £5M.

Maiga failed a fitness test last December at Newcastle, but the Magpies must have known about a certain Papiss Cisse becoming available around about that time.

Newcastle ended up just fine with that deal, when we got Papiss Cisse to Tyneside rather than Maiga, and of course Papiss was a star of the Premier League with 13 goals in his first 14 appearances for the Magpies,  in that famous number 9 shirt.

There may not be any news on Douglas signing for Newcastle for a while, and we just hope it’s not a second time unlucky with FC Twente this summer.

The biggest transfer window in the clubs history could potentially be the worst!

I know people say that ‘it’s only been open 19 days’ but we have had 6 months to talk, bid and finalise deals since the last window and nothing seems to be any closer!

I’d love to know what is holding up the Debuchy deal, why De Jong chose Munchingbuttcrack and how come we haven’t managed to get anyone over the line.

I know the window is in it’s infancy but we are 2 games into our ore season, 2 weeks into our training and only 1 month away from competitive fixtures.

    Farcical at the minute.

seems like every player we want, their prices has increased skyhigh and every player liverpool want, their price hasn’t gone up from original asking price. it means we bought diamonds and liverpool bought craps for diamond price.

    repost from last thread:

Like i was saying in the other thread… this seems to be a PR stunt by L’pool. Rodgers has obviously been “slapped” for his stance regarding AC. He also said:

“There has been a lot written and spoken about him but first and foremost Andy is a Liverpool player,” Rodgers said.

“To consider a loan period for someone the club spent £35million on isn’t something we’re looking to do at this moment in time.

“Andy will be the same as every other player – if there’s ever an offer that comes in we’d look at it as a club and see if it’s going to be worthwhile for the club and the team as a whole.

“The club invested £35million in him. People talk about whether he can fit into my style or not, but if you’re a club and you spend £35million on a player you’d like to think he can fit into whatever style the team plays.

“He’s a good player. He’ll join the rest of the group next week and we’ll take it from there.”

Notice how the 35mil pricetag is mentioned repeatedly. It’s an obvious attempt by L’pool PR & marketing to try and justify the asking price (reportedly 20mil) and bring higher bids in. Rodgers has made it clear that AC is for sale though.

last time I heard Debuchy deal is waiting for Lille to get a replacement and Simpson can go as soon as we get a replcement (probably Debuchy). So.. if Lille is not looking for replacement, we will probably stuck with Simpson. But there is possibility that Debuchy might be forcing a move.
This is just what read from many web sites.

Hardly farcical to be fair, beattie. We’re not the only club who have had failed bids for players so far. There hasn’t been a huge amount of big signings among the prem clubs so far. Newcastle take their time these days. I wouldn’t worry yet.Still about 6 weeks to go, so I’m just going to look forward to are recent customary surprise signing. Hopefully messi 😉 😀

Because they already made signings earlier and most didn’t sell their players. Like chelsea, man utd, liverpool already made signings. Spurs just recently put AVB in charge. the quiet one has been mcity. even southampton signed clyne.

Ashley plays hardball and will only do business if it is in his and the clubs interests.
The price will not be jacked up by any club or the toon will either wait until January in the case of Douglas and Carroll.

Redondo. Remind me who the big transfers were for the clubs you mentioned ;). Also, if these clubs HAVE done their business already, it means the non-big spending clubs have the pick of what remains, and there are some great bargains to be had, Newcastle have prooved that over the last couple of years. Also if clyne went to southampton, he can’t think too highly of himself. Palace to southampton isn’t really a huge step up lol.

To be fair a lot of the time NUFC seem to be taking, they could have done before the transfer window opened. The transfer window is for closing deals and with Carr allready scouted the players and AP pinpointed the ones he want.

It is up to the three stooges to close the deals. I all fairness what’s keeping them from it? I think it is a fair question to ask.

Ok, I accept arsenal have made a couple of biggies there, but as for qpr, what type of player REALLY wants to be there. Spurs signings are underwhelming imo, chelski haven’t finnished signing oscar wilde yet. I just don’t think were struggling like a lot seem to think.

If nobody else leaves we only need to sign a striker to be in a similar position to last season.

If we can’t get our targets, how far down Graham Carr’s list do you want to go?
The club have seen that saying no, walking away and going back in the next window can get results. (Cisse)

I hope we sign Anita, Douglas, Debuchy and Carroll.
But if we don’t … it’ll soon be January …

There’s way too much ignorance of other clubs on here at times.

Monchengladbach are in the Champions League, play in one of the best leagues in the world, and can offer De Jong a place in the starting 11.

Southampton are a brilliant club, who have always had a tremendous reputation for developing young players. Again, they can offer him a place in the starting 11.

Maybe Clyne is actually being clever, rather than greedy and eager to jump to the reserves of a top team. Or maybe, he’s not quite as impressive as suggested, and Southampton were the only team to have a bid accepted.

We’ve only had one good season – I wouldn’t be getting too arrogant.

How does it make a player like feel, if we’re not willing to spend a little extra to get him?

For example, while I appreciate that it’s not (directly) my money, it would sure encourage Debuchy that we’re the place for him if we could say

“Look, we’ve spent more than we initially budgeted for to get you, but that’s because we’re so eager to have you join Newcastle”
