Newcastle Working To Get Three Top Players To Tyneside

7:06 pm, Thursday, July 19th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 288 Comments

Alan Pardew has come out today and said that three transfer deals are being worked on by the Magpies at the moment, and we could take a decent guess at who those three players are.

Mathieu Debuchy – one of three transfers Newcastle are working

Two are long term targets,  Mathieu Debuchy of Lille and Douglas of FC Twente, with the news today that London clubs are also interested in the 24 year-old Brazilian center-back Douglas.

The London clubs are hardly on the same level as Newcastle United (come on), but if the Brazilian wants to live in London,  we suppose there could be an attraction there.

But Newcastle also offer European football this season , and of those three clubs interested, we would expect that Douglas wants to join Newcastle – and that’s a completely unbiased opinion. :D

The other player Newcastle are interested in is obviously former Newcastle youngster Andy Carroll, and we’ll have to see how that situation develops.

But Mike Ashley and Derek LLambias have shown in the past to be master negotiators on transfers, so we ‘ll just have to be patient and wait  and see.

We’ve seen the comments on the blog of perhaps Newcastle having to take a step back  to accommodate Andy, and that Newcastle will start to play high balls into the middle again.

But the way we look at it is that it gives Alan Pardew another option up front, and a different option from Cisse and Ba, and that’s why we think manager Pardew is so keen the bring Andy back home.

This is what Alan Pardew told The Evening Chronicle today:

“Any big player or good player that comes to the table, we need to be involved in it.”  “We need to know what is going on.” “What is the price? Can we do it, can we afford it? If we can’t we go somewhere else.”

“We want the best quality players and at the moment we have three possible transfers actively being pursued in terms of bids and trying to get a deal where the other club gets what they want and we get what we want.”

If Newcastle can pull off those three deals, we’ll be in great shape and maybe the only new player we need to bring into the squad would be Vurnon Anita from Ajax, who seems just dying to join Newcastle.

Of course a £4M bid for Moussa Sissoko, who seems to be available from Toulouse, as we reported earlier today, wouldn’t be a bad initial move either.

He’s a very good player, who only today has become available and come to the table, so Newcastle need to now understand what’s going on,  to use Alan’s words above .

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Debuchy, Anita and Douglas, with a striker to follow later hopefully. Fingers crossed we can get some new faces in soon. I think we’re one of the few big clubs who haven’t brought in a top signing yet. But, of course, they do say that good things come to those who wait. I just hope we aren’t left worrying about bringing players in on deadline day like we were last summer. Although, as we know, that worked out in the end.

    Got a feeling its
    1. Debuchy
    2. Douglas
    3. Curtis Good.

  • 9 ~Debuchery on a Dreamboat~ // Jul 19, 2012 at 7:20 PM

    Google Translation of Jesper’s article:

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew confirmed that there is activity related to getting picked up more players into the squad.
Premier League club Newcastle will try to maintain the good momentum of last season’s impressive fifth place gave, and so manager Alan Pardew started to find reinforcements for his squad.

    - We will have to be there when the big players come to the table. We need to know what happens, what the price is whether we can do it, and whether we can afford to do it. And if we can not help, then we must look for other opportunities, says Pardew to The Chronicle.

    - We only go after the best players, and currently we have three possible trades going. We try to get a deal in place where all parties will be satisfied, says Newcastle manager.

Players like Andy Carroll, Mathieu Debuchy, Vurnon Anita and Douglas have all been linked with the northern English club.

Douglas is playing today Europa league against Inter Turku. So isn’t he cup tied if we sign him?

Yeah, if Twente does not qualify in group stages. I just read regulations.

  • 27 rich_toonfan // Jul 19, 2012 at 7:41 PM

If he has him cup tied playing tonight that drives down his price for all clubs in European competition, won’t pay as much for a player who can’t play every game.

Hoilett is disappointing. Very over rated but would have been good and a chance to improve the team. Shame he went for the money, be ok if qpr were showin ambition but they aren’t looking good.

They are a good few seasons behind us even with their money.

  • 28 Beattie25 // Jul 19, 2012 at 7:42 PM

Why would Hoilett want to play in a stadium with over 50000 fans when he can perform in front of 12 cockneys who’d much rather be watching Chelsea?

  • 34 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:00 PM

At the end of the day if Hoilett would rather go play for QPR then fine. We only want players who are joining for the right reasons.

Funny how things have come to be.
Nowadays we’re even proper excited over a trialist, but it’s become like that cause we’re currently such a high success rate with youngsters and new signings in general.

  • 41 Beattie25 // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:08 PM

Apparently there is a photo of Hoilett in the QPR reception. But you know me. I won’t get excited until I see him holding the scarf above his head and wearing the famous blue And white hoops.

  • 42 Dannyo // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:09 PM

    Wrong forum bud ;)

  • 43 jesperfuglsang // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:09 PM

    @Dannyo

I refuse to believe Hoilett would rather go to QPR than us, but then again I don’t know his motives and we have seen QPR don’t mind paying out £ 70k for a player ;)

  • 44 jeraziah // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:11 PM

£4m for Moussa Sissoko? You got to be joking. He’s probably going to go for at least double that amount.

  • 45 Beattie25 // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:13 PM

Oh yeah this isn’t the QPR forum is it?

    Sorry let me try again.

We are going to get relegated if we don’t offer players 100k a week!

  • 46 RobertNufc25 // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:13 PM

Junior Hoillet = money grabbing little mug !

    Rant over.

  • 47 Dannyo // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:14 PM

    @Jesper
Yup, Barton being one of em.
It’s a shame that money can rule people like that. But if QPR continue those signings, they will implode.
We’ve tried big money signings, how far did that get us? It got us relegated in the end.
Mark Hughes and his board has no regard for what type of personality a player is, they just want him cause he’s good.
Look at the QPR team if they sign Hoilett.
Barton, Hoilett, Tarabt and Cisse… All 4 are “bad boys”. What a joke they’ll be. 4 potential red cards in one match.

    I’m telling u, they’ll struggle.

  • 48 darrenfletcher88 // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:14 PM

Who nos who we will sign no 1 has a clue!!!!! We will never sign Anita, dubceyy, and Douglas!!! I’ll bet any one 100 quid now????

  • 49 Beattie25 // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:16 PM

    Question guys.

Our initial bids for all the players we’ve been linked with. Piss take or feelers?

Are we purposefully submitting insulting bids to unsettle players or do we actually believe that these bids might be accepted?

Is anyone else naked whilst they’re typing??

  • 50 RobertNufc25 // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:16 PM

Qpr & West Ham cant stand either of them.

    Hope they both go down.

  • 51 Iceland // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:16 PM

Anita, Debuchy and Douglas in and put Obertan in the striker:-)

  • 52 m1c4a3l // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:17 PM

Could of done with someone like Hoilett in the team simply depth springs to mind, Never mind plenty more fish in the sea. I am fed up of the rumours of NUFC almost wrapping up deals or involved in deals, this is exactly where the disappointment comes from for the like of these players. I wish they would just release stories when they have signed.

    :(

  • 53 leavemyarselona // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:20 PM

Lukes 26 !!!! Yeah we defenitely need that guy haha the keeper was unlucky at the end haha ,

  • 54 jesperfuglsang // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:20 PM

    Dannyo

For me they are candidates as well for relegation. They seem to just sign players randomly or out of frustration.

Look at last season and look at where that got them.

But I’ll give Hoilett the benefit of a doubt for now ;)

  • 55 Beattie25 // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:22 PM

I don’t get all these insults regarding Hoilett.

It was either Cabaye, Tiote, Ba, Cisse, Colocinni, Ben Afra, Krul etc…

Or it was Derry, Anton Ferdinand, Heider Helgusson, Barton, Green, Ryan Nelson etc…

  • 63 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:26 PM

Not as much as i fancy you darren ;)

Why would I want to bet that we wont be signing our apparent transfer targets?

  • 64 ToonDownSouth // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:27 PM

If by dubcey you mean Debuchy, then I don’t think signing him is that unlikely.

  • 65 RobertNufc25 // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:28 PM

West ham just seem to want to sign anybody were after lol

Wouldnt be suprised if there following Graham Carr around Europe.

  • 66 Beattie25 // Jul 19, 2012 at 8:30 PM

Hoilett has now priced himself out of any footballing future.

He had potential but that is only a word and playing at the b and q car park stadium will stifle his progress and when (not if) QPR struggle he will want to leave but his reputation as a mercenary will precede him and the top clubs will steer clear due to his greed and his lack of progress at QPR.

Mark my words he will play for about 7 clubs and finish his career in the UAE.

I think it’s great we are such an ambitious club. No more are the days of doubt for me under Mike Ashley’s reign. He is proving now more than ever his commitment to the cause and we are aiming high in attempting to break the usual top 4.

This team is getting bigger, better stronger and hungrier to be a success. We are on the up and other clubs are now aware of the threat we pose.

    I am LOVING IT!!!!!! :D

  • 121 Black White and Read All Over // Jul 19, 2012 at 9:55 PM

I’m defo of the opinion that the debuchy deal is as good as wrapped up after he publicly commited himself wanting to join the Toon, the quieter it is on that front the better… until he signs of course, Douglas is a beast of a man with a short fuse, but who better from him to learn from than Captain Colo, he is only 24, the crux of the squad is bang on imo and what we are looking for is to move forward and you do this by creating competition (which we are doing) driving up the performances to boot.

Personally i’m sooooooooo excited at seing the kids come through next season, we have been investing in youth since Ashley came in with the emergence of the ‘development squad’ now starting to bear fruit, Bigi was bought for the DS but by the looks of things he looks like he has the potential to be fast-tracked into the first team as does Abied who only arrived last season, Vuckic has unfortunately had some silly and niggly injuries which has held him back a little, I did expect him to come through last year but was good to see him go to the Championship and get experience with Cardiff, and then there is Sammi, the unknown quantity, I havent even mentioned Tav, Ferguson, Streete (who looks very, very impressive) and Moyo (lightning quick and very direct), these kids are ready to step up and gain experience or go out on loan, so in summary 2/3 stellar signings in the priority areas is all that is needed and if they don’t come Ill not be too worried because there is always January and even though we done magnificently last season, I think we will be in a transitionary period for at least until the end of next season when we can finally off-load the Xisco kid and we have finally rectified the last of our high profile bloomers (excluding Ranger because his salary is not really causing too many issues… he is just a waste of space)

  • 122 MagpiesFlyHigh // Jul 19, 2012 at 9:56 PM

Maybe he jus doesn’t like slapheids

  • 123 Londtoon // Jul 19, 2012 at 9:56 PM

If the french trialist is Anthony Koura… thanks to our friend goggle translate on the Le Mans website here are his stats:
    2009-2010 Le Mans B: 3matches – goals
    2010-2011 Le Mans B: 20matches 8 goals
2011-2012 Le Mans 1st team: 7 matches -goals.

19 years old and played at all junior levels for French team.. If the trialist is him and keeps knocking in the goals perhaps worth a punt if we can get cheap enough

Be very surprised if many of the development squad players make a 1st team impact this coming season. It was made clear the club were going to improve the quality of youngsters hence the likes of gael b, good, amiltifano and this newly linked trialist being courted to join the club.
It is good as someone said that this side of the club is being improved however would not get to excited of them making big impacts this season as some suggest.
Players to challenge for 1st team places are what is needed in LB, RB, CB, CM and ST to be viewed as a challenge to the top 5 clubs.

  • 189 breno95 // Jul 19, 2012 at 10:48 PM

    What is so obvious?
The club we all support in one way or another was on it’s way to financial ruin under the reign of Shepherd. If it was not sold who knows what would/could have happened. Quite possible it may have faced a similar scenario being faced by rangers today.
Mistakes have been made but relegation in a way was a good thing for the club and since then you will have seen and experienced nothing but improvement on and off the pitch.
What do you, me and everyone else call the ground at which our team plays?
MA decision to give the stadium a name is purely to increase revenue only.
We have posted the best set of accounts in the EPL and are savvy when it comes to transfers.
Overall the club is in a good position and being ran in a way that will stand it in good stead for a long time to come.
So unless you are a billionaire or you know one on a personal level like it or not your stuck with MA for a while yet.
I do believe that if things continue in the same way as they have done since delegation MA will be the man in charge that sees the clubs drought of silverware.

I’ve tried to tell ya a couple of times I am not Beardo! I know we didn’t get on for a long time but I am a much more reasonable lad now, I pwomise :D

God things are slow, my optimism is being slowly drained, but then I remember it is only the 19th July and there is another month+ left off the window and then I smile again :)

Must say i prefer the blog during the season as the transfer speculation on here is just ridiculous!

  • 224 Jail for Ashley // Jul 19, 2012 at 11:11 PM

  • 228 Tsunki // Jul 19, 2012 at 11:14 PM

hotdog – I think everybody agrees its an asylum in the close season. I personally long for the days when we used to slap each other about over player X not tracking back or player Y not putting crosses in and even billy/bob/ted/planb provided a galvanising whipping boy for the collective.

Glad we sold X & Y though they were doing my head in with their chromosomal antics.

Can I just say that solano doesn’t post under a different name! As if lol…… and he doesn’t live in Lima lmao and he did post the other day but……..

Secondly, the oldest contributor to this blog who still posts is maybe JP…from The Rock who I remember being on when I first started reading in Ed’s first few months (Ed used to join in too then). Being an early contributor though doesn’t neccesarily mean you are one of the better contributors……
Notice quite a few older posters go to other blogs now like .co.uk or maybe .org. Funny their attitude’s of the bloggers on this site ;)

  • 238 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Jul 19, 2012 at 11:21 PM

    TDS

The glowing character reference of “not being that much of a dick” is greatly appreciated ;)

    @JfA

Well I’ll get on the case, there are times where I do think he has some sensible things to say and comes across as very pleasant but there are other times he has episodes and goes off on one. During silly season it is more understandable though.

I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiments that season blogging is much more pleasant than close season blogging as at least we have football and meaty discussions to dissect rather than tear strips out of each other.

  • 239 steve // Jul 19, 2012 at 11:21 PM

  • 253 Spuggy // Jul 19, 2012 at 11:28 PM

It was the negative Pardew and HBA crowd who eventually finished me off.

    Where are they now?

They were disgusted in pardews tactics and the fact he left out HBA. It got really boring in the end so I decided to boil my intestines instead.

  • 254 Tsunki // Jul 19, 2012 at 11:29 PM

sholadona – brutooon was a masterful lesson in suicide. He actually promised to eave and never come back if Shola scored versus the mackems, so supremely confident he was that it would never happen. But it did. He did pop up sheepishly once or twice but was always reminded of his oath.

hotdog – when did i get my degrees? I missed that. Must be the insanity. I’m off to do some rocket surgery, let me know when Mathieu is stepping of the bus at Eldon Square.

IMO Carr,Ashley,Llambias and pardew are the only people that truly know our transfer dealings. I do believe Debuchy is a genuine target and like with Cabaye last summer our intrest is well publicised and will eventually happen, but other than that we will only know about a signing when they are having a medical at Benton or holding a shirt aloft at St.James park. And don’t be suprised if we sign some more under the rader gems.

  • 265 ToonDownSouth // Jul 19, 2012 at 11:35 PM

Hey lads LISTEN UP ………Munster Mag has JUST BEEN INVITED, by ALAN SHEARER, to watch a Newcastle home game sometime this season – probably soon. My sisters partner has just had dinner in Portugal with Barry Moat. Moat was told all about me , the sad Toon fanatic in Ireland, and he rang Shearer. So now my sisters partner has Shearers mobile phone number and we have all been invited to meet the Toon team in Portugal on sunday. I cant make it, although i will be in Portugal, but on a package elsewhere, with 2 kids etc……..MEGA ….Not a word of a lie …I’m walking on air…!!!

I see that Douglas has just come out and said he wants to stay. Even from when he said that there were bigger clubs than Newcastle chasing him I’ve questioned why we’d want a player who sounds like he’d only give a half hearted performance for a team like us. His attitude stinks. Let’s try for Sakho…

TDS, there was a very succesful night at Newcastle Labour club just a couple of weeks ago with the “St James’ Park Always will be…” group and raised over £1200 for the Charlie Crowe Scanner Appeal, not bad. The Ska Toon played, John Anderson and the Newcastle Ladies team attended.
Been attending alot of the NUFCFansUTD meets which has been an eye opener and has given us and others a direct link to the club.
Ofcourse it’s a quiet time, we’re all waiting and hoping for a succesful transfer window, still issues but I think there always will be even if we won the league, CL and both cups in one season ;)

  • 283 GeordieGerman // Jul 19, 2012 at 11:49 PM

  • 284 Munster Mag // Jul 19, 2012 at 11:53 PM

GeordieToon, thanks a mill mate, chuffed to bits. WTF is going on with Debouchy and Douglas. Beginning to wonder if MA and LLambias are the great negotiators that they make themselves out to be. Maybe Tiote and Cabaye’s prices were one offs??

  • 285 MacToon // Jul 19, 2012 at 11:55 PM

TDS, that’s one thing I’ve noticed since attending the meets, there are always issues and however small they may seem they are obviously important to that individual or group and FansUTD try and represent all fans as best they can.
There is some good things happening which unfortunately are still a bit hush hush…..! but it’s to do with the name SJP, red tape makes some things so bleedin slow.

  • 286 shamsoftabriz // Jul 20, 2012 at 6:00 AM

Option 1: Andy Carroll. 23 years old. 6’3″, can head the ball, cannot pass, cannot press, cannot keep the ball, generally clumsy, record of making foolish decisions on and off the pitch.
    Cost: 13-15M

Option 2: Luuk De Jong. 21 years old. 6’2″, can head the ball, can pass the ball, can press, can keep the ball, very skilled, no record of making foolish decisions on or off the pitch.
    Cost: 16-17M

Which do you think Ashley will choose?

  • 287 shamsoftabriz // Jul 20, 2012 at 6:04 AM

And why not go in for Dempsey? He’s a relentless worker, skilled, etc. He’s a bit older (29) but he’ll do just fine for a few years.

  • 288 Turkish Geordie // Jul 20, 2012 at 8:32 AM

Days passing on and no transfers sealed , it’s getting frustrating , how can you chase a player ( like Debuchy ) & can’t tie up a deal like f****n 3 or 4 months ? Don’t get surprised if Pardew starts talking like when we sold Carroll ( i over the line stuff )
