News today that Tolouse midfield play-maker Moussa Sissoko has said in L’Equipe, that he could be leaving his French club this summer.
Moussa Sissoko – available from Toulouse
Newcastle were interested in this player as long ago as December of 2008 when we reported on the then 19 year-old, but maybe Newcastle should have signed him before now, with his price tag said to be around £9M, according to reports.
Two clubs who are said to be interested in the player, are Tottenham and Liverpool, but we wonder if Newcastle’s interest will be rekindled, now that he seems to have become available, and we’re sure Newcastle Chief Scout Graham Carr knows all about the player.
Spurs and Liverpool have both expressed an interest before in the 3 times capped French International, who has been at Toulouse since he was 13 years old.
Sissoko can play as either an attacking or holding central midfielder, and while Newcastle have Yohan Cabaye and Cheick Tiote already on Tyneside, surely we can bring in another central midfielder to provide good competition to the two starting players in Newcastle’s engine room.
After all we lost both Danny Guthrie and Alan Smith in the summer, so central midfield could do with being reinforced some.
Sissokho’s style is similar to that of former Arsenal and France midfielder Patrick Vieira, and the lad is a good 6’2″ tall, and an excellent technical player.
And the central midfielder is even out of contract next summer, so he could be brought in at a cut price – something the powers that be at Newcastle are always interested in.
This is what the Le Blanc-Mesnil born player had to say to L’Equipe today:
“It may be that I go,” “We know the reputation of Toulouse, the president has always said that if a player has the opportunity to move forward [with his career], he will not close the door.”
The reports suggest he could be made available at round £9M, but he could be even cheaper than that.
Moussa has made 191 appearances for Toulouse in the French League and has scored 23 goals, and he played for all the France Youth sides from U16 through U21.
What do you think?

I’m not even sure that I’m joking about killing. It’s been so so so so long. Being 21, I wasn’t even that into football the last time we had a decent cup run.
Although let’s not forget the great Intertoto Cup triumph.

Comment #258Does anybody rate Sissoko above Anita?
For some reason, I think Anita would fit into our squad better than Sissoko, even though Sissoko might be a better player.
I’d be over the moon to get either tbh…This transfer window is looking a bit slow for us atm.
Lille & Twente are playing hardball over Debuchy & De Jong, Ajax in no rush to sell Anita & Douglas wanting to stay in Holland till the end of August for citizenship, regardless of where he ends up.
Have to say I’m a little disappointed Hoilett didn’t come to us, as he has a lot of potential & would probably get a starting 11 spot with us.
But at the same time, it might be a good thing we missed out on him, as I’m sure Carr will have plenty of other targets who are just as good.
