Utter Confusion Surrounds Newcastle’s Dutch Target

10:32 am, Thursday, July 19th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 138 Comments

There was news from Sky Sports yesterday that Newcastle United target Vurnon Anita has told his club Ajax that he wants to leave the club.

Conflicting reports on this player – Vernon Anita

And if you are to believe the reports over the last couple of months, Newcastle have already bid £5M for the Dutch International, but the club want £8M.

There’s no doubt that Anita is keen to make the move to Tyneside and the reports over the last couple of weeks is that he’s hoping that Newcastle will come back in with a better offer.

But then Ajax Director of Football Marc Overmars yesterday dismissed reports that Newcastle had already bid for the 23 year-old holding midfielder, as he told told Voetbal International:

“If Frank de Boer wants to keep him, Vurnon should just stay at Ajax.”   “His contract has two more years left on it and we are very pleased with him. In the two weeks I have been in this role with Ajax I have heard nothing from Newcastle.”

Now to be fair, that could mean that Newcastle have not bid in the last couple of weeks, but had a previous offer turned down – maybe.

It does seem that the news is true that Anita has already held discussions with Marc Overmars, and he told the former Arsenal and Barcelona winger that he wants to join the Premier League.

But just in case you believe that Anita has handed in a transfer request here’s what his agent Harry Lulofs said yesterday in Ajax Life:

“We have spoken with Frank de Boer and want to have a meeting with Overmars, as he has control over it.”   “But there was no meeting yesterday. Hopefully it is just a matter of weeks.”

Anita’s contract with Ajax expires in 2014 so here’s a simple question:

What’s the status of the Anita deal?

My head is spinning and it’s not the whisky.

We have no idea what the status is, and yes, there have been reports that Sunderland were also interested in the midfielder, but whether that’s true we also have no idea.

That news was from Harry Lulofs, his agent, who said on 13th July that

“Clubs like Aston Villa, Norwich City, Sunderland and Newcastle United have asked about the status of the player.”

“This is quite normal because Vurnon Anita was one of the best players in the Ajax team in the last two years and will be one of the new Dutch internationals.”

“But only Newcastle United have made a written offer to Ajax, who didn’t want to let the player go for that money.”

The agent mau not have been accurate in saying that Newcastle had made a written offer for Anita, so we wonder is he’s any more accurate saying that Sunderland are interested.

And don’t forget the agent’s job is simply to drum up interest in his client, so he can get him sold – and make some money.

Comments welcome.

I think this lad will be a top international, get him signed.

We asked about Anita more than two weeks ago and haven’t been back for him Overmars wouldn’t of heard anything

  • 3 XtraTimeAndPens // Jul 19, 2012 at 10:41 AM

I really think it might be a case of the agent trying to orchestrate a move for his player. There are so many reports going around
about him and yet no one seems to know what’s going on. I’ve never seen him play so can’t really comment on him. Has anyone seen him? Obviously he’s a Dutch international so must be alright. Personally hope we concentrate on getting Debuchy and a centre back though.

Also just wanted to say that I’ve got a new blog post up. You can read it over at:

    Cheers!

    Left kick

    Right kick

    Left punch

    Right punch

    Hips to the left

    Hips to the right

And move your butt all the way around

    Yes that’s good!!

How many defenders are we buying? Have we got our transfer priorities wrong? I think we need to buy two CB not one and should get that done before buying any striker

  • 8 MagpiesFlyHigh // Jul 19, 2012 at 10:47 AM

He fits the Pardiola mould of being adaptable and a top performer in his chosen position.

Who are AC Milan signing to replac Ibra ? There’s a guy with the right initials, plays similar style on the bindippers bench.

Wrong…. Anita is a superb DCM

  • 12 Tommyy // Jul 19, 2012 at 10:50 AM

Klatoon, when they slotted him into defensive midfield last season, they didn’t drop a single point in 14 games. He previously played left back to fill in for injuries but was inconsistent.

I don’t think we’d be getting him for left back though judging by Ajax match reports and some articles, he’s definitely a natural midfielder.

beattie – Sorry mate i gave up at the warm up – just too much :-)

  • 17 mattyNUFC // Jul 19, 2012 at 10:52 AM

tackling and marking of course tiote comes out on top, but as far as a deep lying playmaker…anita takes the cake

  • 18 Hatem's better than Messi // Jul 19, 2012 at 10:55 AM

Sell Tiote and buy Anita and Carroll. (He’s going to go at some point).

  • 19 Tommyy // Jul 19, 2012 at 10:57 AM

We need Tiote for his brutish style, he adds much needed bite to our midfield.

  • 20 hotdog // Jul 19, 2012 at 10:59 AM

Im a bit worried for Tiote in the Uefa Cup. He pickes up alot of bookings in the prem and euro refs will be even stricter!!

    Aye.
And the answer to your mid 3 is Tiote/Anita/Cabaye

  • 23 Graeme // Jul 19, 2012 at 11:05 AM

Not so much confusion – I think its much more likely that the Management know exactly who we are trying to sign but the press and the fans just have no idea.

As a result of that, as usual, we are being linked to everyone with a pulse, under the age of 27. All we can do is keep the faith, see how it pans out.

There are bound to be a few surprises before the window closes, that’s for sure lol.

  • 24 Lynxie // Jul 19, 2012 at 11:07 AM

I couldnt give a monkeys if we get anita or not. Have we forgotten how much Perchino came on leaps and bounds last season. Another improvement and that lad will be playing for England (ahead of Danny ‘ I think I have joined a club to showcase exactly why I should be playing for England’ Guthrie). excellent defensive midfielder in the making, / right back with steel / grit and tackles his body weight. beginning to like the look of him a lot. Central defender is what we need…..

  • 25 Lynxie // Jul 19, 2012 at 11:08 AM

    Beattie, I think I have pulled something………..

  • 26 Hatem's better than Messi // Jul 19, 2012 at 11:09 AM

I like Perch’s attitude and tackling, I’m not convinced he’s as good as you think he is.

    But I hope I’m wrong.

  • 30 TorqToon // Jul 19, 2012 at 11:14 AM

Everybody is talking about debuchy being our most important signing of the window…but I believe Anita will eclipse that!!

He is an absolute machine, bet position is CDM and he is a carbon copy of Tiote but…dare I say it…slightly more composed on the ball and controlled in the tackle!! That’s big words I know. It I’ve seen him play a lot last year both on tv and at eredivise games. Anywhere between £5-7mil would be accepted I believe as he is unsettled and wants to leave…however I believe his TRUE valuation will sky rocket after 12 months playing at the toon – a la Cabaye, Tiote, HBA.

  • 31 MagpiesFlyHigh // Jul 19, 2012 at 11:15 AM

    Lynxie

Perchinho has come on great and will be international quality if he keeps improving but we still need the cover. Three top DMs would give us loads of options as Tiote will get injured/suspended and Perchinho is a utility player…not CB though.
Agree CB is a top priority though. Douglas will do Sakho wud be amazin.

Have to build from the back and Anita/Tiote/Cabaye does that.

  • 33 Lynxie // Jul 19, 2012 at 11:20 AM

    hatem @26:
I hear where you are coming from, Perchino is not yet top class, but the lad has the heart of a lion, he will do for me in a black and white shirt, thats all I ask. After watching tosspots like Marcelino, Duff, Owen, Martins, Luque, Viana etc. just take the money and not give a hoot, it is a pleasant change to see 11 men fighting over every ball. I think a team full of players with that never say die attitude is not a million miles away from a team that can achieve good things.
I am very excited about this season, we have let some of the dead wood leave, and squad improvement may be slow but it is positive and promising. Pardiola can obviously see the certain areas where we need strengthening and is going about it efficiently. In Pardiola / Carr we trust. HWTL!

  • 34 TorqToon // Jul 19, 2012 at 11:22 AM

    MFH – completely agree lad!
I can just see a string backline (especially should we sign Doug or sakho) with santoon and debuchy bombing down the flanks! This will be balanced with 2 x CDM (Tiote & Anita), a creative midfield 3 of Cabaye, HBA + 1 other (?? Hoillet) and that way could play both ba and Cissé together as a top 2 or a 1-1 formation with Ba just behind Cissé!!!

Yes the signings arent in…yet…but I trust in the management and board to get things wrapped up and get the players we need in.

  • 35 hattambenarfa // Jul 19, 2012 at 11:26 AM

torqtoon that would involve 12 players.if indeed we are after douglas anita debuchy this is the kind of thing i think we would be looking at

    Krul
    Debuchy Douglas Colo Santon
    Anita Tiote
    Ben Arfa Cabaye Marveaux
    Cisse

Allows Ba for europe or as impact sub, and guttie to cover anywhere

Hattambenarfa – My bad sorry mate! Been a long old night shift and got myself carried away! Haha

Yeah althought technically that would deploy a ‘loan front man’ with that attacking 3 of cabs, Marv and HBA it would allow enough support from Cissé, ba, slayer, (Carroll??!) whoever ! :-)

  • 41 Valci // Jul 19, 2012 at 12:08 PM

TorqToon – i’ve been talking the death out of a possible 4-2-3-1 formation for us this season over the last few days. But i agree it seems like one of the best setups we could possibly have with our crop of players. Cabs behind Cisse/Ba(or whoever we bring in) with HBA and Marv on each side. They are technical enough to be able to cut inside and threaten the goal as well as play wide and cross inside the box…its a good setup. Personally i think its vital we bring in a good FB (Debuchy?), a CB and a CDM to play next to Tiote in the line of 2. A 4′th striker would be nice but can be postponed till January (ACON) cause we’ll have Cisse/Ba/Shola till then…

  • 42 toonincheek // Jul 19, 2012 at 12:14 PM

I said a few days ago – if we had a midfield of Tiote, Anita and Cabaye (and a bit of Debauchery at RB), we would be strong UCL contenders.
I’ll go further this time – if we get those two, and at least a young striker, and don’t lose anyone, I’ll put a nonth’s salary on us making UCL.
(as long as the odds are reasonable!)

“When walking through a storm, do you hold your head up high, and ignore the 20,000 voices behind you in the Leazes End?”

  • 52 toonincheek // Jul 19, 2012 at 12:52 PM

WWYCD – I reckon he would choose Anita.

  • 53 jayphoto // Jul 19, 2012 at 12:53 PM

Surprised to see sakho talked about so much on here! He’s a completely unrealistic target for us, he’s on big wages and would want a champions league team! Asides from that, I personally think he’s got a few clangers in him when he has the ball at his feet! Not to mention he’d cost 15m, PSG might pay stupid money but they don’t let players leave for nothing!
Same with gamiero, can’t believe ppl say sign him ahead of Carroll, last summer gamiero turned us down over 2 clubs, Valencia and PSG, don’t see why he should get the chance to do so again! From France we should look at auxerres Traore and toulouses reviere!

gorgonzola – you can rest your case mate. Even the ones of us that live/want AC agree that 20mil is too much. And i doubt NUFC staff take suggestions from comments on a blog. In the end like AP said…its up to MA to decide if he coughs up the money or not regardless of how the fans feel…though i doubt many will mind if AC returns and starts banging in goals like in the good old days hehe.

Hmmm, no link to us, but he would be amazing in a trio comprised of him, Cabaye and Tiote, especially when you consider that it seems like we may go to £15m for Carroll, you’d have to say, getting someone of this calibre along with Hoilett, or another young forward, would seem much more sensible and along with our usual policy.

Just thought I’d get the ball rolling on the histrionics again. Proceed!

  • 57 rich_toonfan // Jul 19, 2012 at 1:01 PM

Maybe because last summer psg were a better option for him?

We had finished 13th and they had a much larger wage for him and a good chance to win the league.

    Can’t hold that against him

Thought Liverpool signed a agreement saying they couldn’t buy any swansea players for atleast 12 months?

I agree that the club would pick Anita most likely but I do rate Allen highly pulled a lot of strings in a fairly average midfield think he would slot in very well if we got him

  • 60 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 19, 2012 at 1:12 PM

I think Anita is an essential signing for us. Looks a tremendous player. You can’t compare him with Raylor. Raylor is more of a Beckham/Sebastian Larsson type player. Raylor should be utilised at right-back and right-midfield next season.

If things go to plan, we’ll have Anita and Santon available to play at left back.

I do think that we need 2 centre-backs, so I’d go for Alderewereild and Scharner.

I think Debuchy will be our next signing, then followed by Anita and Hoilett.

I think we’ll leave it until the last minute to buy a striker and one centre half.

Sorry Kets, I know in the past it may seem I just jump on anything you say and give you a hard time, but how is Raylor like Beckham? If he was anything like Beckham surely he’d be able to hold down a spot in the squad and wouldn’t have been used at LB for the start of last season?

Or do you mean in the sense that they’re right sided players and are not commenting on quality whatsoever?

  • 74 ~Debuchery on a Dreamboat~ // Jul 19, 2012 at 1:28 PM

Not sure. But if he wants to further his international career, I personally think he has to leave Villa. Two consecutive poor season’s from them, and they haven’t really replaced young or Downing either.

No doubt Marv could also do a job on the wing, but Gabby can also play as a striker. Which would come in handy especially during the ACON.

  • 84 Tooooon // Jul 19, 2012 at 1:36 PM

I’m getting increasingly fed up of Newcastle faffing about offering ridiculously low prices way under the players market value… so far we’ve signed NO first teamers, and that is because of our incompetent boardthinking that they can get rock-bottom ‘bargain’ deals… I’m sorry, but even Newcastle have to pay the going rate; it looks like we wont be signing anyone this transfer window, but that’s okay we’ll manage to play through Europa and PL but just don’t expect a high enough finish,I’m not sure if the board wants us to push on or they are just happy ‘balancing the books’. This is one of the most important transfer windows in our clubs history, which will decide if we’re going to remain a mid-table team or an ambitious top 5 team.

Also when are the board going to change our stadiums name from Sports Direct Arena, they promised that SDA was just a temporary name to ‘show case’ their grand new offer, and apparently it would get us a new player every year… B0LLOCKS… The name is a total embarrassment to the club. Expect NUFC to remain just a marketing asset toAshley.

Maybe needs to lighten up a bit with his cash old Fatty, we might start to get a reputation as piss takers.

  • 91 check the toastie // Jul 19, 2012 at 1:41 PM

Gotta say agree with Ketsbiaiaia on the Raylor analogy, the one main difference between Anita and Raylor is the fact that Anita can actually run faster than a tortoise smoking spliffs.

  • 92 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 19, 2012 at 1:43 PM

I mean in terms of technique of playing style. Raylor also has a tremendous touch as we witnessed against Monaco. Unfortunately pace is the only negative thing about Raylor’s game. If he had that extra yard of pace, he’d be a starter for England.

He was used at left-back as we didn’t have a proper left-back in the squad at the time. Santon needed time and prefers to play at right-back.

Hoilett’s just a bonus. I really hope we get Anita signed up. He could be a gem.

Still a lot of work to do, but if we land our targets, we’ll be challenging for 3rd place.

Not sure about Carroll. We need to get Debuchy, Anita and a centre-back tied up first.

  • 94 pieceofpapiss // Jul 19, 2012 at 1:43 PM

Toooon – I disagree. Cabaye, Tiote, Ba, Ben Arfa, Krul, Saylor, Santon were all signed for relativley small fee’s and they’ve proven to be some of the best players in the league. This is the beauty of having a scouting system like ours. We hunt down the best players and offer a fee that will alnd them. If clubs want to demand silly money we move onto other targets, and we will have other targets.
Gone are the days of us spending £15 million+ on a player (besides AC who will be worth every penny in a black and white shirt) and in come the days of shrewd business.
We cant compete with ManUre, Citeh and Chelski in terms of transfer fees but we shoed last year we can build a great squad for little money.

“it’s been 19 days now… and still no first team signings. It is evident that this lack of action is causing a few members of the NufcBlog society to lose their sanity. Chanting’s of “We’re not going to be signing anybody” can be heard in the middle of the night as the weak willed wander aimlessly through the dark woods. I worry for the population on this blog… if the numbers of the sane continue to dwindle at this alarming rate there is no hope… “

  • 96 Tooooon // Jul 19, 2012 at 1:45 PM

ToonDownSouth – so far we’ve offered 4m euros for a French international, summoned a ridiculous offer for Carroll, embarrassingly offering like 3.5m pounds for one of the best Dutch defenders & run scared when Twente wanted the going rate for one of the future football talents….. well it’s not all that bad we did get ’12 grand f******* interest’ from Liverpool.

  • 97 check the toastie // Jul 19, 2012 at 1:45 PM

Lynxie – I also love Perch, think he cud play RB next year if needed and do a super job, he proved that at Chelsea away last year. Never gives the ball away, he is like having a combative Paul Scholes Right Back.

OK maybe a little over the top.

Was going to respond, but pieceofpapiss has done a splendid job already!

The only thing I will add is that i’m pretty sure we’re not seen as the laughing stock of football transfers…that’s Liverpool who are looking to take at least £15m loss on their big signing.

Granted business is slow, but we now know, who we do sign, wants to play for the club and has been well researched to fit in with what we’re trying to achieve. Maybe I’m missing something, but how successful were we when we used to just pay the going rate?

  • 103 Valci // Jul 19, 2012 at 1:53 PM

Tooooon – relax buddy…its still early days. Besides…out of the players you mentioned de Jong was unproven at high level and didnt want to come to NUFC, Douglas is also unproven in the big leagues. For Debuchy i belive 6-7mil is the right price and we might still bring him in and as for Carroll, thats in the works. You have to consider that sometimes the going rate or asking price isnt the right/fair price. A businessman (and MA is one) never pays asking price…he negotiates. If the other party is unwilling to negotiate he steps away from the table…which is just good business…

  • 104 Tooooon // Jul 19, 2012 at 1:54 PM

Don’t you think that would sour relations between you and that someone, would you now be more inclined to do a deal with that person… that’s why I’m saying we should offer closer to the players value 250k to not sour relations.

Plus we did have more success when we paid the going rate… Bobby Robson where we finished 3rd &4th??

  • 107 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 19, 2012 at 1:55 PM

I will also add, that other clubs can do one if they’re getting p*ss*d at our dealings. If the player is worth more than we’re offering, other clubs would be paying more and we wont be signing the player. If they have better offers, what’s the problem for them? If they don’t, it’s obviously the right price.

  • 109 check the toastie // Jul 19, 2012 at 1:57 PM

Debuchy is worth going market rate 8 million pound nee bother, probably worth more to our team as we have struggled there for a while.

Douglas – just pay 5 million and hes ours, he looks physical can play the ball out from the back and is clearly well thought of by Carr and Pardew, they are our no1 targets and as such our offers should match our needs.

Most of our other super bargain basement signings have been below the radar and done very quickly, pissing about with stupid offers alerts other clubs, just get the business done sharper boys, douglas is only that cheap due to his contract expiring, worth a lot more to this club for sure.

Love the way everybody has become an accountant, fat boy is pretty rich you know and made some pretty decent statements about competing with the top 4 when he bought the club, Cisse is his only signing that made me sit up and think yep he is in this for real, would like another one..

  • 110 check the toastie // Jul 19, 2012 at 1:59 PM

The point is we were paying the going rate and over for shite, no problem with paying the going rate when endorsed by Carr who clearly has an eye for a player. Paying going rate for players who Souness fancied or Fat Fred fancied is a bit different.

  • 111 Tooooon // Jul 19, 2012 at 1:59 PM

Debuchery… we all know the main reasons we got relegated and that was because of your beloved board comprised of Ashley & Wise.. Under freddy Shephard where we were paying the ‘going rate’ was our most successful period since Keegan.

  • 112 RobertLeeNo.7 // Jul 19, 2012 at 2:00 PM

Anita can also play at left back which we need cover for. Its fine people say Anita is more composed on the ball than Tiote but that is in the dutch league where he has more time on the ball. Get ma’ point?

We need Anita in to play DM with tiote when we change system
We need Anita to cover Tiote at ACON
We need Anita to maybe cover left back.

We can’t reply on perch to get to the next level he can do a job but he won’t improve us.

  • 113 ToonDownSouth // Jul 19, 2012 at 2:01 PM

    Ibiza

Add to that the fact that we pay 100% upfront, which is completely unheard of in modern football.

  • 114 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 19, 2012 at 2:01 PM

Tooon…..Well, I think seeing as we’ve been back in the PL for 2 seasons, have changed managers and most of the starting 11 in that time and finished 5th, things are starting to look up. I think you will also find we didn’t pay the “going rate”, but over that to secure players, I have also heard (but have not checked it out myself), that we weren’t in the best of financial positions back then.

Now on to your first point.

If someone offered my 100k for a product “valued” at 300k, i’d obviously want more. However, if I wanted or needed to offload the product and 100k was the best offer I had received, you would have to consider it and make a decision. Either take the best offer or keep the product. You can hardly blame the buyer that no one else has outbid them.

But yes, I’m sure as far as relationships go, clubs will be well aware they’re not going to make lots of money out of us, but we will offer cash and they will be able to move on with their business, which has a value to it.

  • 115 breno95 // Jul 19, 2012 at 2:02 PM

    Valci:
Makes no difference if a player is ‘up for sale’. If a club offers enough money then any board will consider the offer. AC was not physically on transfer list but the 35m big ones changed all that.
However must say I would not entertain Agbonlahor at all nor Hoillett. Marveaux will hopefully have a good season.
I’m not interested in all the poor reports being commented on as it is all very boring reading the same comments over and over again. As long as come 31 August 2012 there is a new LB, RB, CB, CM and CF signed and none of the key spine of the team leave it can be viewed as a very productive window.
Last season was above alot of peoples expectations but it highlighted the actual quality of player there is in the starting 11. This window is the opportunity for NUFC to push forward and look to consistently make top 5 of EPL. Investment to achieve this does not have to mean silly money spent either.
5 new faces (whoever they may be in those positions) combined with current players will make, hopefully, for another top 5 league finish and if the focus is placed on treating the domestic cups in the right manner it may even lead to ending the long wait for silverware.
A failure to add quality and not just quantity in this window may be a very big mistake. If no progress is made then football being football you will see the likes of Cabaye, Tiote, Ben Arfa, Krul, Colo, Ba, Cisse all moving on.

  • 116 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 19, 2012 at 2:06 PM

Check…So the Cisse transfer impressed you? I’m pretty sure in the summer we’d been told £15m, so we moved on. Then in the winter we suddenly got him for £9m. You’re right, that’s some terrible business by the club.

I get what some of you are saying. The odd marque signing here and there “may” take us to the next level, however they “may” not, as we have seen time and time again.

Is the squad improving with each window? Has our position been improving for the past 3 season? Do you think perhaps the club no what they’re doing now and we should all just relax, just a little?

Oh Christ, it’s the 19th July? Only another 6 weeks left out of an 8 week window…..PANIC…HELP….DOOM!

Haven’t posted for a while but i had to say i think you may well be a neggar. You may be right in saying that our most succesfull time was when we were paying the going rate for players< but you have to consider the fact that if Mike Ashley hadn't bought the club when he did< we may not even have a club to support. Certainly not a prem club. Freddie Shepard and his philosophy for running a football club was sinking us deeper and deeper in the brown stuff. I for one prefer to see us being shrewd in the transfer market, it's served us well in the last 2 seasons.

  • 119 RobertLeeNo.7 // Jul 19, 2012 at 2:13 PM

If quality and improvement isn’t made in this window it will unsettle top players and also leave us finishing way behind a couple of teams we bettered this years as they add more quality and improve.

I’m sure we will improve but I think top 5 this year will be a big ask. I’ll be happy 6th above the bin dippers and i doubt it but would love a cup any cup…. apart from that one in preseason in portugal haha

I’m a realist. And the reality is that before AC left he was the best english striker in the league (rooney was off form) £35m was the best bit of business this club has ever done. If he comes back he’ll get that form back before you know it. We wont resort to long ball football because AC has a hell of a lot more to his game than that.
Debuchy will come in for under £8m because he wants to leave and Lille will give into his demands.
Anita is going to be world class, still young and with the guidance of Tiote will prove to be a valuable asset to us for under £5m.
Douglas im not bothered about, very good defender in the same bracket as Colo and Saylor.
Hoillett is brilliant but if he’s offered champions league football he will got for the money.

Comparing RTaylor to David Beckham is sooo wrong its diabolical.

  • 132 Premiership Manager // Jul 19, 2012 at 2:45 PM

I don’t understand why we would bid 8M for Anita as he is not worth it. We have Tiote, we have Perch,Raylor,Gosling Abied and Bigirmana who looks to be a very tallented player.

If we buy somebody to play in defence it should be Sakho, he is an international and can play at CB or LB and to if yoy compare the costs of signing one player to do the job rather than two in Debuchy and Anita it’s a no brainer and will keep the team settled.

The other thing to consider is Santon, I still don’t know his best position and if Tiote went for me I’d put Santon in midfield because he is to technically gifted to be wasted at LB or RB.

As for Carroll would love to see him back but the terms would have to be good.

One thing to many people forget is that players like Debuchy and I could say to a certain degree Ba will use this window to manipulate the best deal for them whether is is with the club they are at or with another club.

Carroll has been put in a very difficult position and to a degree I feel genuinely sorry for the guy as he has not been treated very well by Liverpool who seem to be making blunder after blunder.

Tooooon – I understand what you are saying and as fans we first and foremost want to see the club doing well. BUT under fat Freddy the club was haemorraging money buying players we couldn’t afford on the never never and still paying for players who had long left the club. Not to mention the the fat bonuses he paid himself & Douglas Hall. Freddy hid all this from Ashley which is why Ashley sacked him when he found out. I understand your frustration but we don’t want to go back to running the club like Freddy did!

None of us say anything right or wrong, they are just opinions. Unfortunately not many on here agree with yours. That is also not helped by the fact you generally don’t back up your opinions and spout on that we “need” this player or that player.

Then there’s the believing Pardew was taking tips from your blog posts, but I can put that down to an attempt at humour…maybe

Reading you boys is helping me through it though. Keep up the good work……. Also I take it this Anita is half decent then?? ;)

  • 136 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 19, 2012 at 3:19 PM

We want to buy Anita as he’s versatile. He has composure on the ball, and we struggled to keep possession on numerous occasions last season. It will be a good signing. We also need an attacking midfielder to challenge Cabaye. Hoilett would be a decent signing as he’s available on the cheap.

I’ve got a feeling that Douglas will sign for Fulham, so hopefully we’ll end up with Aldereweild or Sakho. It’s worth paying £10m plus on a centre back as that’s where we’re short at the moment. Too many incompetent players at the back at the moment.

Would rather we bought two up and coming strikers for £6-7m instead of signing Carroll for £13m.

We can’t be relying on players like Shola Ameobi, Williamson and Simpson next season.

I do however think Abeid, Vuckic and Bigirimana have the potential to be excellent players.

Vuckic should be utilised as a striker though.

I agree with almost all of that and would love it if we got hoilet in but he wouldn’t be back up to cabaye as they’re completely different players, YC is a puppeteer pulling all the strings while hoilet is an explosive winger/ striker, both quality at what they do but you’ll find it hard to find backup for a player like cabaye! It’s a shame we let Guthrie go really he was our closest thing in that mould
