Magpies Star – I Only Want To Be With You – Newcastle That Is

11:02 am, Friday, July 20th, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 391 Comments

The signing of Cheick Tiote by Chief Scout Graham Carr a couple of years ago,  is one of the best buys Newcastle have ever made for a central midfielder, and it’s no wonder that the saying  In Carr We Trust  is now in vogue with Newcastle supporters – why wouldn’t we?

Cheick Tiote – has been a great player for Newcastle

Cheick has told anybody who would listen, that he is very happy at Newcastle, and doesn’t want to go to a place like London, which doesn’t seem to suit his living style or his personalty – Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal please take note.

Cheick was asked in the local press today, if he still wants to stay with Newcastle, a question he must be getting tired of hearing – and this is how he responded:

“Yes. I’m still a Newcastle player. I’m very happy here.” “All I’m looking at is that the season ahead of us will be a really good one, just like last season.”

“Last season we finished fifth, and doing that again will be difficult – and we’ll have to use the squad.”  “I am ready for the challenge with Newcastle.” “It’s a new season, and I think we have a lot of things to do.”

“We’ll be playing in two competitions, and it’s going to be difficult. It means we’ll have to train hard in Germany.”  “If we do that here and in Portugal, we’ll be ready for the start of the season.”

“I think I’ve had enough time to rest, but I had been playing international games.”  “I’ve had a really good summer.”

When you think that Cheick has only been at Newcastle for a couple of years, with 52 appearances and one very memorable goal, it’s really been a dream move for him, and his arrival has corresponded with Newcastle moving up among the big boys.

It’s small wonder that Cheick is very happy on Tyneside, where he is loved, and long may he stay at the club, after signing a great new deal eighteen months ago.

That lucrative deal keeps him at Newcastle until 2017, after he had resisted moving to Chelsea on the very last day of the transfer window 18 months ago – the same day Andy Carroll joined Liverpool.

Well Andy now wants to come back, so it’s probably best for the big stars at Newcastle to just stay on Tyneside, and help Newcastle become a top English club –  once again.

Great to hear. With the right investment this team could stay together, grow together and win together.

I hope we give the team reasons to stay a team.

    repost :
Magpies – what are you 13?! I was gutted when he left but im in the camp that believes the whole move wasnt by his choice. Remember the whole “forced out” story?…well im leaning towards believing that not least of all because this whole move for him now (at cut price) seems a lot like MA trying to make amends for cashing in on him back then.

  • 5 check the toastie // Jul 20, 2012 at 11:11 AM

Magpies, Andy Carroll was brilliant and played his heart out whilst wearing black and white, short memory, he’s had a mare at scumpool but will still offer the Toon a massive amount in our colours.

Hope we get him, he will be still giving 100% well after Ba has decided to chase the cash. Get Real, for me he was pushed out and badly advised at the time by those closest to him. Mr Nolan that is, scouse shit.

There was a documentary on youtube a bit back someone posted on here. It was in french presumably for an african channel. Anyway as he’s arriving for training some fans want a autograph

He stops and signs autographs then drives away. As he’s driving he says something like “there here every time with out fail” then he looks like he starts to get teary eyed. Point is it make me think that he does truly want to be here and all he needs is fans love and enough money to support his family.

Or at least thats what i hope its like ;)

  • 8 jesperfuglsang // Jul 20, 2012 at 11:12 AM

Damn Ed, you are spitting out these article like there was no tomorrow…

…I am starting to worry a bit here ;) lol

  • 9 tarie4 // Jul 20, 2012 at 11:17 AM

    Valci

He was barely into his 5 yr contract and wanted more money, remember the story him knocking on pards door asking us to match Liverpool offer??

Tbf the deal suited both parties, Andy and the board, but to say he was forced out?? That is criminal. Barton was forced out. Not Carroll. We refused 20, 25, 30, 35 only wen the said they would pay cash did we accept.

Remember, pards as been saying since the season started, if U want out players, U will have to pay up, a hugely inflated price. That was the same attitude we took with Carroll.

  • 10 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 20, 2012 at 11:17 AM

Magpies…..No talent? So tell me something, why was almost every toon fan gutted to see him go? Surely a player with no talent fetching us £35m would be an instant hero, as pointed out in my last post. I’m happy to discuss anything Newcastle related on here, but please try and back up your opinion not just spout utter b*ll*cks.

  • 11 LGFUAD21 // Jul 20, 2012 at 11:22 AM

I see Hoillet has in fact gone to QPR by the looks of things.

#Complete lack of ambitions . I pity players like that. Too greedy to reach his full potential

  • 12 sweendog // Jul 20, 2012 at 11:22 AM

Says alot about the player the way he talks about us fans .. good to hear .. Tiote a great player…

  • 13 Valci // Jul 20, 2012 at 11:24 AM

tarie4 – in this case for me personally AC’s story seems more believable then the club’s. They would never admit to cashing in on him. Like i said…the fact that they are trying to bring him back now reinforces that belief…to me it smells like MA making amends for cashing in on him…thats just the way i see it…might be right or might be wrong…maybe years from now there will be an autobiography (Pardew, MA, Andy , whoever) where we will be told the actual truth…

  • 14 jesperfuglsang // Jul 20, 2012 at 11:29 AM

I don’t know anymore what’s up and down in the Carroll saga, but I do know this:

When it comes to the truth, then there is yours and mine and then the truth ;)

So it is probably somewhere in between what both Pardew and Carroll have said…there are no saints or sinners here if you ask me :)

  • 17 tarie4 // Jul 20, 2012 at 11:38 AM

    Valci

oh like Carroll. Would admit to leaving for money?? Haha
please atleast look at the facts. Andy was offered times 2 what he was on here. Liverpool were at that time a better team and were in Europe (not to mention the history) his friend Nolan told him to take the offer and move to Liverpool, he banged on APs door demanding us to match Liverpools offer, mike and co wanted 35 mill as I said, it suited both parties, Carroll and the board. To say he was forced out?? Haha as I said before Barton was forced out not Carroll, he went willingly. Mate.

Carroll is a fantastic player, and AP as always said he would love him back and expressed admiration for him..

dnt U think that’s the main reason we are after him? Because pards feels he can get the best out of him??

I feel ur judgement on this issue is clouded by something else maybe a hatred of the board etc. But if that’s what u want to believe then fair enough, however absurd it might be.

    tarie
carroll was on 30g and after being offered 80g by liverpool he asked for 50g to stay effectively taking a 30g paycut to stay. a reasonable request imo.
on talk sport the other day someone close to the deal was saying it was bs we ad received all the money up front.
after the club painted ac out to be greedy for wanting more money 6mths after signing new contract they prom’tly went ahead and gave tiote a 30g rise after only 6mths at the club.
i said on an earlier post that both parties ac and nufc wronged each other realise that and are tryin to rectify it. i would love him back #comehomeandy

  • 22 jakesome // Jul 20, 2012 at 11:51 AM

i honestly have a lot of respect for tiote not only his footballing performances but his loyalty. he also supports his family over in the ivory coast.
    MASSIVE RESPECT

  • 23 naptoon // Jul 20, 2012 at 11:51 AM

on tiote. what a man could become a true nufc legend.

  • 24 Valci // Jul 20, 2012 at 11:53 AM

tarie4 – i dont hate the board for selling him. it was good business…i can relate to that since i majored in business in university and such. However…it would seem more likely that AC admits to leaving for money then the board admitting to cashing in. He is a professional footballer first and NUFC fan second and i dont blame him. No matter how loyal i may be to the company i work for if a rival offers me triple salary i’d have my resignation on my boss’s desk in the blink of an eye. On the other hand, the club would have had to admit to cashing in on what was arguably our star footballer at the time…much harder to justify to fans imho.
I agree that the deal was good for both parties at the time though…might be a case of both sides wanting to save face…like i said…we dont know and may never know the truth.

  • 25 naptoon // Jul 20, 2012 at 11:54 AM

    valci
    exactly

  • 26 tarie4 // Jul 20, 2012 at 11:54 AM

    naptoon

Agreed, that’s what I am saying, that the deal suited both parties, the board and andy. Andy was not forced out. On tiote, tiote rejected the Chelsea move from the get go? Andy did not. BIG DIFFERENCE.
I personally dnt trust soures, why?? Because the money for Andy was coming from Chelsea (Torres) and Liverpool fans will tell U, they agreed to sell Torres wen they knew the would get Andy. To say we already had the money?? I think that person was mis-informed (telling fibs)

I would love Andy back, but at the right price. He is a fantastic player.

  • 27 tarie4 // Jul 20, 2012 at 12:00 PM

    Valci

“it would seem more likely that AC admits to leaving for money then the board admitting to cashing in. He is a professional footballer first and NUFC fan second”

Are U sure about that? name me a player who ever said that they left for money? Andy is more likely to admit than the board. AP has been saying to whoever will listen that if U want cabaye tiote etc, I will have to pay alot of money. Is that not basically saying we will cash in if the cash is acceptable?

“I agree that the deal was good for both parties at the time though…might be a case of both sides wanting to save face…like i said…we dont know and may never know the truth.”

Its nice to see U backtrack from ur he was forced out stories to the deal was right for both parties ;)

I guess we came to a reasonable comprise :)

You say “look at the facts”, then proceed to spout a load of rumours and hearsay and made up figures…

Ifyou’re claiming that what Pardew/Lambias said are ‘the facts’, then your completely missing the entire point

  • 29 naptoon // Jul 20, 2012 at 12:05 PM

tarie agree about tiote loyalty deserves reward. i dont trust sources either but i also dont yet fully trust ma and dl though they are clearly learning fast from any mistakes they made. personally i think ac was a panic buy by lfc otherwise the american owners at the time wudve been facing one hellish shitstorm for selling torres so we sensibly took advantage

  • 30 Colo-Sus // Jul 20, 2012 at 12:05 PM

Hes not really saying what your headline states Ed.

He is just saying Yes I am a Newcastle Player…

    Misleading Headline.

  • 31 Valci // Jul 20, 2012 at 12:05 PM

tarie4 – oh yeah the deal was great for both parties from an economic point of view. My point was that the board could have kept him if they wanted to… assuming the figures naptoon mentioned are true then asking for 50k while turning down 80k is admirable. But its all water under the bridge now and we made good signings for that money…now if we could get Andy back at a reasonable price we could say we pulled off one of the greatest deals in football history. Like someone else was saying the other day…getting the players we did + Andy back using the 35mil we sold andy for in the first place would be a stroke of genius on MA’s part.

  • 32 tarie4 // Jul 20, 2012 at 12:06 PM

“after the club painted ac out to be greedy for wanting more money 6mths after signing new contract they prom’tly went ahead and gave tiote a 30g rise after only 6mths at the club.”

Tiote did sign a 6 and half deal. I think he would deserve a pay rise on a contract that long, Andy had just signed a 5 year deal earlier that season. And there are quotes with him saying that it was a fantastic deal, blah blah. And barely 2/3 months later wanted another rise? BIG DIFFERENCE

  • 34 TorqToon // Jul 20, 2012 at 12:09 PM

Loyalty is a rare thing in today’s game – players are too easily swung by money and the thought of greener pastures (we know that more than most!), so it’s so great to hear Mr T reaffirm his commitment to the club…and shove one right up the manc’s who may have thought they could prise him away! A great player, top professional and all round good guy! :-)

Like we always say – In Carr we trust…so let’s not all get down and childish (magpie) about all this as I’m sure the club have considered all options and are in conplete control – despite what the journo’s spout!

I must admit, I really do love Cheick. Everytime he puts on a Newcastle shirt he gives it his all and you can never doubt his commitment to the cause. He might pick up the odd yellow card (or ten) but he’s definitely improved in that regard. Hope we do manage to keep him on Tyneside for many years to come because at the minute he is probably the best ‘destructive’ player in the Premier League. It looks like he could also be a great role model for Biggie both on and off the pitch. God help opposition midfielders when those two are on the pitch throwing themselves into tackles.

Reading between the lines Tiote wants a transfer to Liverpool ;)

Joking aside. I love this bloke. One of the best around in his position. Glad the love is mutual between him and us fans. Maybe he enjoys being one of the first names on the team sheet here. Not like when he was warming the bench at twente. I hope he stays for many years to come!

  • 40 pardews plan B // Jul 20, 2012 at 12:11 PM

    not in my opinion.
contracts are not set in stone nowadays and ac apparently offered to meet in the middle either way it worked out well for us.
im with valci though tarie for almost 3 times the money it wud b hard to turn down for 99% of people. also i think ac had shocking advice

  • 43 ToonDownSouth // Jul 20, 2012 at 12:13 PM

tarie.. that’s my point lol. What Pardew and Dezza say are hardly trustworthy! And the rumours and hearsay would be all the figures for wages and wage demands debing banded about – who really knows?

I’m not disagreeing with you though, just pointing out that there’s not a single trustworthy party involved.

If he came back he’d have some grovelling to do. You don’t accept the #9 shirt if you have any intention of leaving in the near future, and he knew that.

  • 44 Valci // Jul 20, 2012 at 12:14 PM

tarie4 – my problem with that is that you seem to be operating under the assumption that AP and co were telling the truth and Andy was to lying…im not sure that was the case. For all we know AP & co’s statements could have been a carefully orchestrated PR stunt… its not impossible you know…
But like i said….water under the bridge at this point…

Still this andy carroll crap. Can’t believe it. People were sad to see him go because of his POTENTIAL no more. He is one dimensional. Without the backing of the geordie public he has faltered. He needed us and he couldn’t see it, all he could see was money and he thought he was moving up in his career. A mercenary. Even without the money involved, he preferred a move to liverpool instead of wearing the black and white number 9! UNFORGIVEABLE. I don’t want him anywhere near our club. And then there’s his personality problems. And again ill reitterate, he is one dimensional. Look at cisse, the man has so many angles and ability he makes carroll look like a plank of wood. No thanks liverpool you can keep him. And NO THANKS ANDY, jus cos your big move has fell thru cos the new manager actually plays football, you want to come back here??? Sorry, I’m not going to claim that I know what happened with the Andy Carroll deal and I would hope none of you will either. We refused all the offers way up to £35m, what happened after that, none of us know, so let’s not treat Andy Carrolls “request” as fact.

  • 56 Tsunki // Jul 20, 2012 at 12:21 PM

naptoon – AC certainly had shocking advice to make the move, and just as shocking was Liverpool’s valuation of him, they’re the most to blame for the whole situation he’s in now. AC is in negative equity. If Liverpool had been sensible, AC would still be developing his game properly here, but as it’s turned out it’s really held him back a couple of years. I blame KKK and his idiot backroom and the Yanks who blindly coughed up ridiculous head-turning cash that couldn’t be turned down, not really a bit of blame on AC himself and certainly not on NUFC.

I don’t know where Andy will end up, but if he can get his head round the situation, take a drop back to normality (if there is such a thing) with a realistic transfer fee and toned-down wage and get back to being in a team where he has to prove himself, he will be a top player. Even if it isn’t for us.

I’m willing to put forward the crazy notion that absolutely nobody here has ever been offered a big chunk of £35 million plus more money a week than they can fit in their garage. So how can it be said that loyalty should hold sway over the lure of fabulous fortune? Maybe it does in Roy of the Rovers, but not on planet Earth.

Look at it from a 22-year old’s point of view. Yep, yep there it is………

I think i’ve found a solution. We’re all wrong. The board, the manager, the players and the fans.

    Excellent. Equality remains.

Anyone heard we’re trying to sign Andy Carroll back? Whatever next?

  • 72 Tsunki // Jul 20, 2012 at 12:33 PM

I’m concerned that Andy Carroll was forced out of Toonarmlees a**e. Are we blaming Ashley for that as well?

  • 73 check the toastie // Jul 20, 2012 at 12:34 PM

The club didnt have to sell Andy Carroll at any price, at the time i thought they shouldnt have at any price as IMO top clubs dont sell their best players. (ala the Keegan years).

We accepted a 35 million bid, now was Carroll supposed to still accept his 20k a week when clearly he was worth more than that. NO. He wanted a pay rise (he was the heartbeat of our team, and had just starred for England) to stay but the club wanted him out and wanted to cash in. He was asked to leave for the sake of the club and was advised to do so by his close pals Nolan the cheif culprit.

Dont make a demon out of the lad he was 21 year old for fcuk sake.

  • 74 pbNcl // Jul 20, 2012 at 12:35 PM

It wasn’t a ‘threat’. Did I threaten you? No. I basically said if you dish out crap to people you will receive it. A friendly bit of advice if you may sir. Your tone is that of mild anger that people don’t share your feelings towards andy capp, to me he is a traitor, to you the prodigal son. This is a blog of opinions and that’s what makes it so rich. I have offered my opinion on the matter, nothing more. I certianly haven’t tried to change anybody’s mind. Industry professionals you say? You have heard words thru the media mate, do these reflect said individuals true opinions or are they just the right things to say. Actions speak louder that words.

I am not saying that ap and co are telling the truth or Carroll is lying. . I am under the impression that both parties are innocent and telling the truth. Having that in mind. I look at the stories and say. Who benefited the most?
Andy or the board? Who has the most to lose?
U see, everyone benefited and the both had alot to lose (Andy from the geordie idol to being the cursed one etc)

U said clearly that U feel Andy was forced out and I disagree. I said the deal suited both parties. I did not pick a side. U did. U are under the impression that Carroll is telling the truth and the rest are lying (because of ur forced out theory)

  • 76 RobertNufc25 // Jul 20, 2012 at 12:35 PM

I think Carrolls new agent told him to go and ask for 80k a week thinking we would give him it.

But Ashley called his bluff & told him to f*** off.

Either way the agent is a winner.

tarie.. that’s my point lol. What Pardew and Dezza say are hardly trustworthy! And the rumours and hearsay would be all the figures for wages and wage demands debing banded about – who really knows?

It might be hardly trustworthy and so is carrolls statements.
But they are still primary evidence. As they came from the people who everyone knws were directly involved in the transfer deal. That makes it a fact. ;)
AP is on record saying that Carroll came and asked for a new deal. Carroll said here, I have been offered this and what do U say about that.
80k is the widely reported weekly wages for Andy. Rumour maybe.

  • 82 Valci // Jul 20, 2012 at 12:42 PM

pbNc1 – fair enough. I agree on your last point though. Actions do speak louder…hence we are trying to bring AC back at a reasonable price ofc (but then he was never worth 35mil to begin with)

Tarie4 – maybe forced out is a strong term…i dunno. I do believe that he was told something along the lines of “selling you is whats best for the club” or some such. The reality of it is that we will probably never know what actually transpired behind closed doors.

Wow Joe Allen. I think moving to a club of Liverpool reputation will finally make people stand up and take notice of him. 1 of the finest midfielder in England but virtually underrated and the media is more busy talking about Balotelli and Rooney. LOL.

He had Arsenal, Us and Borussia Moglkenfafdjhfsdbfs,fdBACH all sniffing around him. We could have offered him Europa, The other 2 could have given him CL and he’s chosen to go for wages at 21 years to a club that barely survived the season that I think will perform very much the same next year.

He’s so young he has a whole career to earn big bucks. Would have been better to come say here or Borussia MonhdghsdjgsgskdgdbgBACH prove he is the real deal (even more) then make a big money move to Manure or Citeh or Chelski.

Please be quiet you’re embarassing yourself. Allen doesn’t have anything on Cabaye. Allen is a good, little player but at £15M is massively overpriced (worth £5M at most). As well we don’t need him as we have Cabaye, Amalfitano, Marveaux & Gosling who can all play the same game Allen does (& better).

If we’re going to sign a CM for value then let’s try and get Moussa Sissoko. The lad is the French Yaya Toure, an absolute beast who’d bring heaps of talent to this club. Sissoko at £9M is value for money. Sissoko is a super player and if we could get him for a bargain price (£6-7M) then we’d have a super trio in Tiote, Sissoko & Cabaye also with the cover supplied from Jonas, Amalfitano etc.

He did have some of the best passing stats though in the premier league. He is a great play maker. And he actually got 4 league goals and 2 assists

Aye, Allen has potential but i see Sissoko as a much better signing + worth his fee. Sissoko can be used as CDM or CAM so if Cabaye drops back, like he does at times to help his long, visioned balls, then Moussa can jump on the attack ala Yaya Toure and cause havoc with his strength & physical pressence. He’d also be a massive threat in the box (like Alou Diarra is for France). He could add some serious height to our midfield/team.

  • 152 Lynxie // Jul 20, 2012 at 1:50 PM

    Anita – £6.5m
    Sissokho – £6.5m
    Debuchy – £6.5m
    Lukuku – Loan
Carroll – Either on loan or for £13m

    Total = £38.5m

    Outgoing:

    Forster – £2m
    Best – £3m
    Simpson – £2.5m

Must be thinking of somebody else then with regards to stats. Pass completion? Give me a break, I watched enough of Swansea to ascertain that stat means zilch. I’m sure I saw a table towards the end of the season, which had average pass completion of teams in Europe and Swansea were about 6th, only behind the likes of Barca, Man City etc. They go through periods of 5 minutes without crossing the halfway line, just faffing with it between the CMs and the defence, to-and-fro.

There’s a major difference when the onus is on you to take charge and win most matches, like there is there. Can’t wait to hear all the groans and burblings to resonate around Anfield, after yet another back-pass. :P

Only Man U, Man City and Arsenal (all at home) to play in the first 6, to help him settle in!

Maybe as someone said with pass completion, It’s easy to achieve with pass backs etc.

    BUT

You’re missing the point. His stats were not much worse than Cabaye’s and the pass completion and pass rate show that he is a player that prefers to keep possession (something we often fail at).

Would you rather a selfless player that likes the passing game or someone that will loose the ball constantly.

Just to be clear, Im not saying i want him here im just saying he is a good player for his age

    re; Pass completion.
Swansea had something like 65% of the ball against us at teh Liberty Stadium. yet Krull didnt hav e a single save to make. Out of our 35% ball possession, we scored two and won comfortably. this is not the model that Pep Guardiola fashioned for barcelona when they play posession football. having the ball only means you have more opportunities to do something with it other than keep it…………. Its not passy the parcel, the object of the game is to win it, by putting the ball in the big net thing behind the other goalie, something Swansea fans and ‘football lovers’ seem to forget.

  • 181 Big Pappa Cisse // Jul 20, 2012 at 2:08 PM

I think Liverpool are starting a horrible trend which will impact on our youth. We’ve seen it for years with young girls watching these rake thin super models getting paid bucket loads to starve themselves. Now Liverpool are basically sending the same message. Get paid to be useless and ugly as Jay Spearing or similar.

It needs to stop now. If we wanted football to be plagued by these monsters, we’d just look to the Sunderland academy to feed all of the English football clubs. Let’s put a stop to this madness now, before it’s too late.

Yeah of course, you’re completely right. We have absolutely no height in our team beyond our strikers. It was really evident some times last year, when we never seemed to win 50/50 balls in the middle of the park. Puts us at a huge disadvantage.

  • 187 Zero // Jul 20, 2012 at 2:16 PM

Toite is an amazing player, im glad hes sees the value in playing for the loyalist fans in the country. If he continues to be an amazing player it is only a matter of time before he is a NUFC legend.

On the AC matter, simply look at it objectively.

Is he worth 15-20million value wise- no his value is closer to 10 million based on his current abilities and performance.

Is he worth 15-20million to US? Probably, in the end we would still be pulling profit from his previous sale, hes proven at the Euros he is difficult to defend against so will undoubtably give us an alternative striking option when things are going wrong both in the EPL and in the Euro cup.

Could the 15-20million be better spent – Im no expert and we have to trust AP and Carr, if it was a simple case of MA saying screw it, heres an EXTRA 15-20million on top of the supposed transfer budget then no i dont have a problem with it, however if its out the normal budget surely gaining a talented young striker such as Guidetti for nearly a third of the price is a better deal with money left over for another top class player.

Must say that I agree with a lot of your thoughts on transfers SupaToonKid! You’ve obviously got great knowledge of the market! I’ve said since January that we should try and go for Moussa Sissoko as I think he would be a fantastic step in the right direction for our midfield. Only one year left on his contract, already experienced, and bags of skills. As you say, he can deliver something that we don’t have and I think he would fit right in. Imagine buying a player like that for 7-8 mill, it’s a steal really and he would be motivated like hell too! What do you think about his teammate Etienne Capoue SupaToonKid??

Would cost a fortune if anyone wanted to take him away from Toulouse, but much like Newcatle, every player at Toulouse has his price, i can see Arsenal coming in for him if they miss out on Yann M’vila (which i think they will)

    Etienne Capoue

    LFGUAD

I typed out a response, but I realised we’re in danger of going in circles.

All I will say is, Cabaye more than quadrupled Allen’s assist tally in 2 less appearances and made the most tackles in the league, in his first season in an all new culture and tempo of football, not even a comparison.

I’m sure had Danny Guthrie played in that Swansea team under Rodger’s instruction, for an entire season, he would have looked similarly ‘impressive’ – that’s not a slant at Guthrie either, I wish we’d kept him, I’m just saying it doesn’t take a maestro to monopolise the ball between himself and his CBs, under no pressure, which was his main input.

Suppose I have typed out a whole new response now *sigh*

    I’m going anyway.

The NUFC waters remain still and placid, I look to the horizon, when will Debuchy come surfing towards us on a wave of jumbo joy?

I would never normally claim to be “in the know” but after finding out pardew and carr read the blog i decided to steal ketsbia9s scout book! I can reveal our full tranfer targets!!

It start off with bench warmers
Messi good player but missed a pen vs chelsea should be ours for a max of £3.5 mil
A joint bid of 6000 pesos should land us neymar and ganso
£12 mil for carroll should also land anita for £1 mil and cissoko for £1.50 and a rhubarb and custard

    Now for first teamers
Scharner is a must luckily hes on a free cos otherwise could cost us up to £30 mil offer him £200k a week and keep our fingers crossed
    Rodellaga is a must!
Fletcher and o’hara we should get for a joint fee of £70mil then we just need to invest roughly £190 mil into our youth system

Now mike this may sound alot of money but we should ne able to get roughly 420 gazzilon for ranger xisco and we dont really need tiote
Willo and simmo might be hard to move on but theres a school team doon road who said they would take them for 50p

Capoue i’d say 15 least, same with Sissoko tbh, they’re Toulouse’s stars in all fairness, they’re hard players to replace due to their age/skill/potential. I haven’t seen much of that Santana, few Borussia games last season, brazilian too isn’t he? personally i’m a fan of Douglas, good old fashioned centre-back – a bully! with ball playing characteristics. Ideally Sakho though :P ofc

  • 210 Zero // Jul 20, 2012 at 2:57 PM

  • 213 Colombus // Jul 20, 2012 at 3:03 PM

He’s brazilian too, and a very good CB! Although I’m a bit concerned about his pace. I want a cb with pace as I think that’s the biggest problem for us in the back 4. I’m starting to have mye doubts in Douglas as I think he might lack the motivation nessesary for playing in the NUFC-team. I saw Supatoonkid mentioned Zapata earlier and I think that’s a good shout. On the Sissoko-matter I actually think 8-10 million would do it. He only has one year left on his contract, has done amazing for the club and it is time for him to move on to bigger challenges. PLease God, let him be the first player through the gates!

Anyone seen the SS article “Transfer Targets”. Suggesting Tiote goes to Man U. One section made me smile though:

“However, for an option that we’re already familiar with, Cheick Tiote would stiffen up that midfield and then some. One suspects the Newcastle man cannot be stopped with conventional weapons, and the amount of running and tackling he does would allow any of Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick or Shinji Kagawa to wander around and do their thing, knowing their backs would be covered. He’d cost a tidy sum, but it would be worth it.”

Benching Santon is ridiculous, him & Debuchy will be the best FBs in the league next season.

I’d love this team next year:

    Krul;
    Debuchy, Collocini, Douglas (or Sakho), Santon;
    Sissoko, Tioté;
    Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Marveaux;
    Cissé

  • 272 Valci // Jul 20, 2012 at 4:50 PM

Ashwin – did the affelay thing come from somewhere or wistful thinking? regardless im not sure id spend 6mil (think that was the reported price) on a player with a history of injury (or am i confusing things?) that has had a total of 34 appearances and 2 goals across all competitions in the last 2 seasons.

  • 275 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 20, 2012 at 4:55 PM

    As our team stands.

    —————–Krul—————
    Simmo—Collo—Saylor—Santon
    ———-Tiote—–Gutti———-
    —-HBA—-Cabaye—-Marveaux-
    —————Cisse/Ba———–

Obviously if Debuchy arrives, then swap with Simmo. If a LB comes in, move Santon to RB and put the new player there.

Marv will depend on how he performs, but I have high hopes for him.

If we get in another high quality CM, then Gutti may need to make way, but personally, I’m happy with him in the team.

  • 276 SupaToonKid // Jul 20, 2012 at 4:55 PM

Actually I’d like Sakho more because he can play LB if Santon gets injured, is younger than Douglas, has Iternational experience, will fit in easier will French lads & will be able to join club earlier.

    4-2-3-1:

    Krul;
    Debuchy, Collocini, Sakho, Santon;
    Sissoko, Tioté;
    Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Marveaux;
    Cissé

  • 277 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 20, 2012 at 4:57 PM

Ashwin…Can’t even begin to think about rotation squads :) Only commenting on best starting 11.

One tweak to my team would be Saylor. If he can stay fit, then for me he is a starter, but that is a big if based on his track record.

tho id rarther have Sakho than Douglas, i dont think Douglas’ attitude is right seems abit of a loose cannon. plus Sakho is just generally better makes fewer mistakes and seems to have a positive impact on the game

Here’s a thought – if AC moves back he’ll have to drop his wages, and dine on humble pie. If he prefers to go elsewhere for more, then the money grabbing journeyman with no loyalty theory holds up. And then we can relax and despise him in comfort forever after.

  • 324 Tsunki // Jul 20, 2012 at 6:30 PM

The friendlies were…dire. But necessary. I long for the PL to start so we can see the real thing. the pre-season is a bit like paying to watch middle aged fat men exercise in the gym. • 346 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 20, 2012 at 6:51 PM

tads…Has Scharner moved? Have we signed him? He features high on wor kets list, so i’d be gutted if we’ve missed out on him

  • 347 Tsunki // Jul 20, 2012 at 6:51 PM

There was I quitting the blog and now I am the typing equivalent of Tony Stark’s Jericho weapon. Must go. Back sometime later after AC holds his shirt aloft at sjp

  • 348 Tsunki // Jul 20, 2012 at 6:52 PM

Ibiza – yeah Scharner has moved – very slowly into an old folks home. Ketsy is picking him up and driving him to the Toon later. With several toilet stops.

  • 349 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 20, 2012 at 6:53 PM

    Tsunki….Phew….that’s a relief.

When does the senior citizens season kick off again?

  • 350 Beardo Ameobi // Jul 20, 2012 at 6:55 PM

So, tonight, Hulk, Neymar and Damiao, pitted against likes of Bertrand, Neil Taylor and James Tomkins – should be………. interesting.

  • 351 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 20, 2012 at 6:57 PM

Tonight Matthew, I will be the the hulk.

  • 352 niafron // Jul 20, 2012 at 6:58 PM

Debuchy is coming back to Lille tomorow. He will discuss his situation with coach Garcia.

It seem Lille still want to keep him.

According to the last rumour, PSG is trying to enlist him.

  • 353 studsy // Jul 20, 2012 at 6:59 PM

Cheers toonboy – thought I accidenltly clicked on “Big Market Brawl” until I double checked the title…he seemed to completely lose his mind…this a regular thing with Douglas or a one-off thing?

  • 354 Beardo Ameobi // Jul 20, 2012 at 7:00 PM

If Debuchy doesn’t end up at NUFC, I quit football and possibly life.

  • 355 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 20, 2012 at 7:01 PM

Come on now Beardo…We’ve been here before and we’ll be here again. What’s the worst thing that could happen? Another season of Simmo at RB?

  • 356 Ben Arfa (Either love him or Hatem) // Jul 20, 2012 at 7:02 PM
