Fabricio Coloccini will start tonight in what is a strong starting eleven for Newcastle United against Fenerbahce in the Sonnenseestadion (SC Ritzing), Austria.
Rob Elliot starts in goal and Demba Ba will be the lone striker up front, against what is expected to be a strong Turkish side, who start their European Champions League qualifying games in a week.
Haris Vuckic, James Tavernier, Haris Vuckic and Romain Amalfitano all start for the Magpies, which shows the impact these young lads have had on this tour.
It’s a new formation, said to be 4-2-3-1 – but you can overdo these formations, and it’s really a modified 4-5-1 formation.
It’s a 7:30 pm KO time – not 7:00 pm as I had thought – my error.
Newcastle United (4-2-3-1): Rob Elliot; Danny Simpson, James Tavernier, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Ryan Taylor; Cheick Tiote, Dan Gosling; Gabriel Obertan, Haris Vuckic, Romain Amalfitano; Demba Ba
Substitutes: Steve Harper, Davide Santon, Mike Williamson, Mehdi Abeid, Gael Bigirimana, Sylvain Marveaux, Jonas Gutierrez, Shola Ameobi, Sammy Ameobi
Fantastic to see Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome come in first and second in today’s time trial in the Tour de France Stage 19, and the first time an Englishman will ever have won the Tour – assuming Bradley can make it into Paris tomorrow. 😀
And Chris will be in second place overall – fabulous.

Are you just being stubborn? Gosling was our best player by far while he was one the pitch…

Comment #284Lots of encouraging signs there chaps, Cisse was excellent as usual, Sammy and Abeid too. Colo cool as a cucumber at the back, Tavernier looked comfortable too and a good range of passing. Vucic not playing with that smile on his face and it showed in his performance, he just needs to build some confidence. Obertan.. i dont know… i just dont know man… 🙁

Comment #286i think conceded goal for us was not faster of the ball. But Elliot couldnt stop it.So we should say that he was slow reaction.

Comment #287Nice to see the younglings making an impact; For me Sameobi is ready to play his part this coming season, but as much as I rate Vuckic I still think he needs a season long loan to the Championship.
And Obertan, what can I say. He really frustrates me and it seems he has just left off where he ended last season.
Why can he not be more direct and when he takes on a player why does he slow down so much he need to accelerate when wants to go around an opponent.
He is so easy to read and he seems to always make the wrong decisions 🙁

He’s got so much ability, but his decision making is – and I never ever slag off our players – honestly some of the worst I’ve ever seen in to flight football.
He needs some coaching with Steve Stone, he can teach him a thing or two.

Comment #289Lol he was nothing to rave about he had about twenty minutes were he played well. I followed him at everton before his injury and didn’t like the lad then.

Comment #290As I said earlier, biggest positive for me is, we seem to have the fundamentals down already, shape of the unit and organisation looked exactly like last season’s.
If they hadn’t scored at the end, I’d have said that was a vintage NUFC display, circa 2011-2012. 😉
Sammy, Tav, Colo and Gosling were the picks of the bunch for me. Excited about the prospect of Sammy through the middle.
Think Tav has more pace than Simpson, is more intelligent on the field, confident and composed with the ball – just plain better, in my opinion – ready. Was doing both jobs at times

Comment #291What have we learnt from that:-
1 – Shola is still lazy – time for him to move on.
2 – Elliott is far far from been anywhere near good enough, we need a keeper and need one quick.
3 – There has to be a better alternative than R Taylor for free kicks and corners.
Other than that I thought we did OK, they are far more advanced than we are in our training/fitness etc, so well done lads.

Comment #292Tav looked really good, has a nice turn of pace and decent ball playing skills. Marv looked classy again but didnt see enough of the ball.

Comment #293Obertan is poor like. At one point a player ran past him and he ran about two yards and just stopped. He seems so miserable aswell like, I remember when I seen him and Marveaux in nando’s on the metrocenter and he still had a face like a smacked arse

Comment #295Did anyone else notice that Ryan Taylor didn’t do a single thing right for 90 minutes?
I assume that’s why Pardew left him on, to give him time to find his touch.

Comment #298Elliott – not much to do all game. Possible poor position for goal.
Tavernier – excellent assured display.
Colo – no change just class act.
Simpson – solid display.
Raylor – good game. Positioning good and decent crosses.
Obertan – another disappointing effort. Runs alot with no contribution.
Tiote- no change. Class act.
Marveaux – good touches, pace. Feeling his way back nicely.
Gosling – very good game. Assured and good in the tackle.
Vukic – poor game and hooked at half time.
Ba – no change. Class act. Good touches and work rate.
Subs all put in decent showing. Well taken goal by abeid. Sammy done himself no harm as well as bigiramana. Shola was Shola and Santon did not have much to do but did produce best tackle of the game taking out the steward.
Overall very good work out against a CL team.

Comment #300As i said before Tavs must have serious defensive problems because he is clearly ten times the player Simpson is offensively and has been the last two years.

Comment #301Tds sorry elliot was really slow to react not just for the goal but the whole game he just looked petrified!
Positives
Almost all our senior players looked back to fitness raylor had a good game jonas cisse tiote collo santon simmo ba shola all looked fit and healthy
Gosling got better as the game went on abied bigi and sammy are defo gonna be first teamers very soon!
Negatives elliott
Vuckic looks alarmingly off the pace considering he had a decent loan spell this season and is now getting over taken by the other youngsters around him
Gabby started well but crashed and burned and the most worrying thing is that the body language of the lads suggest they have less confidence in him than he does pards has got a lot of work to do to this lad

Yup, the back 4 are still way too short of cover.
But great display tonight, don’t care about the last goal, doesn’t dampen it the slightest.
Was a better display than i was expecting, good mix in style of play.
Yohan, Tim, HBA, Shane, Saylor, none yet available…
@TDS
I’m hoping for Obertan to come through, but it’s getting darker for each game imo.
Altho, he has looked decent coming on as a sub, but as it is, HBA, Gutti, Sammy, Marveux maybe even Fergy, should all be ahead of him on the wings.
