We had reported yesterday that Newcastle were giving a trial to 19 year-old French striker Anthony Koura from Le Mans, and that this lad seems to be hot stuff, and he scored two goals in Newcastle Reserves 3-1 win against Hamilton Academicals on Wednesday.
Anthony Koura – likely Newcastle will sign this lad
And the good news is that the 19 year-old striker, who has played for all the French Youth sides through U19 level, is available at a cut-price fee.
Anthony still has two years left ion his contract at Le Mans but the French club are struggling financially, and have to sell some of their players in an attempt to balance their books and get back in the black.
And the French FA are even putting some pressure on the French club to put their financial house in order, and it seems the only thing now necessary is for Newcastle to ensure he’s good enough to join the Magpies.
However, Newcastle development manager Willie Donachie on the official web-site as saying the following about the Le Mans born striker was said to be willing to take the lad is the price is right:
This was part of Dan King’s assessment of the lad, after Dan had reported on the Reserve team victory:
“United’s Reserve Team Manager could hardly fail to be impressed by the unnamed French teenager, whose brace came inside the opening 24 minutes, and admitted that he “would take him” if the price was right.”
The unnamed teenager has now been unmasked, and of course it’s Anthony Koura, and according to all reports that we’ve seen of the game on Wednesday, the lad looked a very good player and of course scored two goals.
It’s signing players like Anthony, that will help Newcastle keep up with the big boys in the Premier League, and there’s even a decent case of saying these signings are even more important for the long term future success of Newcastle United, than even the first team signings.
One thing is for sure – they are very important young players coming into the club this summer.
Here’s Anthony’s new Facebook page if you want to pass him a message about our club.
