The Newcastle squad is now back in Newcastle after taking a chartered flight back home from Austria after the 1-1 draw with Fenerbahce in Vienna, in which a lot of Newcastle players gave a good account of themselves.
Alan Pardew – we thought we were cruising – we switched off
Newcastle played very well last night and after a very good goal from 19 year-old Mehdi Abeid had put Newcastle ahead after 76 minutes, we conceded a goal with almost the last kick of the match, and that’s always very hard to take – even in a friendly game.
And after going ahead Newcastle must have had three good chances to go 2-0 up, with Shola And Cisse missing some decent chances that they didn’t take, but Alan Pardew thinks it’s a valuable lesson that our players can learn, as he had this to say today to the Sunday Sun today:
“It was a game we should have won.” “There’s no doubt about that.” “It shows at this level that you can’t switch off.” “They are a Champions League team and that’s what we did, switched off.”
“We thought we were cruising and should have scored a second goal.” “It didn’t come.” “You need to see the game out with tenacity.” “We didn’t and they scored and it showed what it’s like.”
“This could be a valuable lesson for us.”
Alan’s so right that it’s a valuable lesson to learn, and it’s one of the worst things that can happen in the league, when we are winning late in the game, and the oppostion equalizes – and that 2 points dropped right there – and it’s like a kick in the gut – or even worse. 😀
But still, there were some very good performances from our players last night, so we are not going to grumble.

Comment #3Gosling also came close with a header in the first half.
Vuckic should have taken a shot rather then passing it. Game could have easily ended 2-1 or 3-1 in our favor. Don’t really remember Elliot making that many saves. Most of the fenerbache shots sailed over. That schtoke? no idea how you spell his name. (The short lad with a lot of face down the left) looked rather impressive for fenerbache.

Comment #5If we are going to play a 433 next season i agree Adam Johnson is a good season although we have Marveux.
However i dont think we are playing 433 as all of Pardews comments are that Demba Ba will play in a central role which means either: 442 or Cisse not playin/leaving.
The fact we after Carroll would also suggest we playing with 2 up front very much like we did against Manure at home .

Comment #7Vuckic has to start stepping up to the plate, I thought he was going to become a worldy but he does not look interested at times. New midfielders signed tends to suggest the management ‘may’ have concerns

Comment #9on the match yesterday thought gosling, tavernier were brilliant n the rest of the youngsters were great to, weve clearly been working on keeping the ball better
i think were 3 first teamers n a few more quality youngsters away from a top squad

Comment #11Did everyone watch a different game to me.
I though Fenerbache were the better side apart from maybe 15mins in the second half during which we scored.
They passed the ball better and looked most likely to win, so I thought we did well the get a draw.

Comment #17Not totally convinced Elliot is good enough, it may be a bit early to write him off; but serious consideration and judgement should be made to his all round capability.

Comment #19I would say over the whole game fenerbache were the better side. We had a good spell during the 2nd half but they had a strong side out and are more advanced in terms of pre season preparation. Overall pleasing performance with a lot of positives.

Comment #20Remy is the guy we should sign! Worth €18M & like davybtoon said: Remy, Cissé & Ba we’d be challenging for the title with that strike force & then CB & FB needed (maybe another CM) and we’d be getting top 4 no problems!

I disagree mate. I think we started off well and Fenerbache slowly got into the game and started knocking the ball about very well but with very little effect. We need to remember we had a very young team playing a team that will be playing CL Football. We played really well and matched them all the way. Tavernier and Sammy where outstanding last night.

Comment #22Toon1978 i agree about the found side that’s why the performance was so pleasing against a fenerbache side who were strong as i said before i just think they were the better side over the whole 90 mins but again No shame in that with side we had out.

Comment #23Sorry if it’s already been mentioned, but according to le10sport, we’ve contacted Marseille over a potential move for Remy – they only want £14m which we could get down.

Comment #26i jus think pardew is making us a team that is very hard to beat, fenerbache are a very good team n we played well against them, and the youngsters plus gosling n marveux is like having 7/8 new players

Comment #32Wish Ashley would just go for it and get in Carroll or Remy lol. Having said that, we are in need of a full back and CB also. Things moving at a snails pace in regards to transfers 🙁

Comment #36Elliott had nothing to do all game, except the last minute. For that reason alone I cant say they played better than us.
Include the fact we had a load of youngsters on, key first team players missing, made many changes and they are further along there pre-season, what we did was more than credible.
IMO we were better and deserved the victory.

Comment #40So it looks like Tav cud be RB plus cover for CB and be pretty good playing out of defence.
Good vision means good distribution = no hoofball.
