The Newcastle squad is now back in Newcastle after taking a chartered flight back home from Austria after the 1-1 draw with Fenerbahce in Vienna, in which a lot of Newcastle players gave a good account of themselves.
Alan Pardew – we thought we were cruising – we switched off
Newcastle played very well last night and after a very good goal from 19 year-old Mehdi Abeid had put Newcastle ahead after 76 minutes, we conceded a goal with almost the last kick of the match, and that’s always very hard to take – even in a friendly game.
And after going ahead Newcastle must have had three good chances to go 2-0 up, with Shola And Cisse missing some decent chances that they didn’t take, but Alan Pardew thinks it’s a valuable lesson that our players can learn, as he had this to say today to the Sunday Sun today:
“It was a game we should have won.” “There’s no doubt about that.” “It shows at this level that you can’t switch off.” “They are a Champions League team and that’s what we did, switched off.”
“We thought we were cruising and should have scored a second goal.” “It didn’t come.” “You need to see the game out with tenacity.” “We didn’t and they scored and it showed what it’s like.”
“This could be a valuable lesson for us.”
Alan’s so right that it’s a valuable lesson to learn, and it’s one of the worst things that can happen in the league, when we are winning late in the game, and the oppostion equalizes – and that 2 points dropped right there – and it’s like a kick in the gut – or even worse. 😀
But still, there were some very good performances from our players last night, so we are not going to grumble.

Comment #161Pieters and Toivenen could be a smokescreen for Cissokho and Remy.

Comment #162Simpson should be sold even if Debuchy doesn’t sign. Raylor is the second best right back at the club behind Santon.

i’m not a fan of simpson either, not at all, but for being on so little wages and offering a last resort, would it not be worth it to keep him around just in case?

Comment #166So jsut something i noticed last night, Raylor, everytime he got into a crossing opportunity on the left, used his left foot as if pards has said, if you wana play 1st team LB again (like the start of last season) use your left foot more, it looked as though he really tried not to check back onto his right!!! just a thought

Comment #167He’s apparently on £25k. He wants £30k. Better players like Raylor and Perch are on less money. We have Santon, Raylor, Perch and Tavernier who can play right-back. We don’t have 1 natural left-back. It’s obvious that we need to get rid of one or two right-backs. Raylor and Perch offer versatility and should be kept on.

Comment #170Cheers guys, haven’t posted in a long time. I’m a bit dissapointed by the transferbusiness so far. The window is open until the end of august, but it is better to buy as early as possible to let the new players take part of the preseason and get to know the place.
Imo we have to at least buy 4 players. 1 SB, 1 CB, 1 winger and 1 striker. Our defence is not good enough considering we will get injuries. Can’t see steven taylor injuryfree for the whole season (hope i’m wrong)

Comment #171Damn you Ketsy you really are a genius. Sell Simmo now whatever happens, whether we sign a replacement or not? He he he he you are a card. Whatever everyone thinks of simmo, he was Pards’ No.1 go-to RB so I see that happening when Michael Owen comes back.
Henceforth I shall make no more Scharner comments save for obviously this one.
I have cancelled my Sky sub outright actually. I got the sports pack half price last year and yes we did have a lot of games but most of them I went to anyway. Apparently the price was going to be the thick part of £70/month to keep all the stuff I had on and no movies either (and NO, no other ‘special’ channels). So it’s back to the foxsat HDR box and I can’t say I’m bothered. Especially snce the missus said it’s either that or the ST. Naturally, I expect a call in a couple of months. 😉

If Debuchy isn’t coming, maybe Paul will have the sandwiches I made for him. Damn I said I wouldn’t!

Comment #189Papiss9 – to be fair I think most of us wouldn’t have frequented the blog so much if we knew at the start of the window just how much it would drag on. I think we have all underestimated the brinkmanship and hustle of Mike’s crew. Not to mention the resolve not to be taken the p*** out of shown by our target players’ clubs.

Comment #192nufc786, hehe dont know 😉
I’m demanding debuchy and a quality CB. The board must understand that this window is the time to splash some cash.. Spurs have got AVB and might loose Modric, Manu haven’t done much yet, Arsenal might loose RVP and liverpool wont get top 4. If we get 4 players of good quality in, we should have a very good sesason

Comment #196Papiss9- quality cb is a must if we desire the the upgrade of a top 6 team which we all do…. its either sakho or douglas for me…..
and kets i would have liked alderwierld to be our preferred cb but as many ppl have said especially to you he has made the intention to stick it out with ajax – http://www.goal.com/en/news/11/transfer-zone/2012/06/25/3200488/alderweireld-will-stay-at-ajax-despite-newcastle-interest
