€12M Newcastle Bid For Remy Shows Carroll Deal Uncertain

6:46 pm, Sunday, July 22nd, 2012 by Ed Harrison · 250 Comments

This is some news we missed out on earlier today, that Newcastle have bid for French international striker Loic Remy, but had their bid immediately rejected – and Newcastle have been interested in this lad since early 2008, according to our records.

Loic Remy – Newcastle bid €12M for French striker

There are reports in Le 10 Sport that Newcastle offered around €12M ( (about £9.5M) for the 25-year-old, but that apparently didn’t come close to the valuation of the player by his club Marseilles.

This move by Newcastle is a little bit of a surprise to us, and we wouldn’t expect the Tyneside club to go in with such an initial large bid, and certainly don’t expect an improved bid being made by Newcastle for the 6′ striker, who has played 16 times for France with 4 goals.

He joined Marseilles from Nice back in 2010, and has so far played 83 times for the French club with 37 goals, so that’s a decent goal-scoring record.

Tottenham and Lille have also been interested in the French striker, who was born in Rillieux-la-Pape, and has previously played for Lyon, Lens on loan, and Nice.

But this seems to show that Newcastle are by no means certain of the Andy Carroll deal going through, and if it doesn’t, then Newcastle still need to bring in a fourth striker for next season.

It may not have been a bad deal to have brought in former top target Modibo Maiga a couple of weeks back,  who has now gone to West Ham for just £5M.

But of course when you fail a player in his medical, it’s kind of hard to go back and bring him in a second time, and we have no idea how serious Modibo’s medical condition was, that forced the Magpies to call time on him last December – but it seemed a little bit strange.

But we are very happy with the striker Newcastle eventually brought in – Papiss Cisse – and we have to think Newcastle knew at the time, that he was going to become available from German club SC Freiburg.

Remy must have been tracked by Chief Scout Graham Carr over the last year or so, and it’s a little bit of a surprise that Newcastle made such a big offer for the French International, who didn’t even seem to be on the radar screen.

However, when we look back in our records, Newcastle were said to be interested in Remy way back in May of 2008 when he was only 21,  and still at Lyon – we should have signed him then.

And that article also makes interesting reading about where we were at Newcastle four years ago, and who would have thought  we’d be relegated in a very  short 12 months – my arm has just started to ache again. :D

What do you think?

@3 – yeh i sense a smoke screen too. with our recent history in transfer windows, i wouldn’t be surprised if we signed a striker who we had not heard any rumours about etc

Triple smokescreen, thats some next level transfer dealing from the three amigos :)

  • 8 Papiss9 // Jul 22, 2012 at 6:54 PM

PSG has purchased lavezzi and zlatan, certainly gameiro wont get much playingtime there, with that big squad. Maybe get a loandeal with option to buy on him..

I think remy is out of our reach beacause of the price.

Gamerio would be a qualitysigning. Very quick and good on the ball. A type of player who would give us something else than what we alreadty got.

  • 20 Toonboy_84 // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:02 PM

Haven’t seen much or gamiero. What type of player is he?

  • 21 voodoo85 // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:02 PM

why do people clamour for Gameiro, we were reportedly turned down last year so if he wasn’t so keen then, why go back now

thats if what was rumoured / reported last year was true and i’m not saying he would be a bad signing, just whats his record like and why would he be good for us ?

haha, would be a supersigning, but he is too expensive. Even tho our transferbusiness has been very good in recent time, why dont we just splash some cash this time around to really be a CL contender

  • 28 Papiss9 // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:09 PM

    nufc786

Cut-price it says. then why are we not interested. I dont care if he chose PSG last year instead of us anyways, he is quality..

    Papiss9
i know……… must be some reasons why we are not in for him……

  • 30 Valci // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:12 PM

Remy is a quality lad. He would git in on the left wing for us but might be out of our price range but it depends on how much both clubs are willing to negotiate.

On the Gameiro front…i’d honestly prefer any of the strikers we’ve been linked with this summer.

  • 31 Papiss9 // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:12 PM

We also need a striker soon because of ramadan. The first games i dont expect too much of Ba and Cisse..

Here’s my fortune cookie wisdom of the day:

“There are basically two types of people. People who accomplish things, and people who claim to have accomplished things. The first group is less crowded” ;)

  • 38 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:18 PM

Remy probably wants to sign for us. We should made a bid for Giroud. Arsenal got a good deal there. Giroud is better in terms of form but Remy has potential.

We need a third striker and maybe a versatile midfielder who can play up front as well.

  • 39 shearer 9 // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:18 PM

This story came up last night on nufc fans and all it said was £12mill Remy bid rejected Newcastle Interested but if u read the whole story the 12m euro bid was from spurs a few months ago it just says we r looking at him but are we willing to pay 18m euro

  • 40 Valci // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:19 PM

Papiss – not really my type of player. Its all subjective obviously… i’d rather get a pacey winger if we gonna play 4-3-3 and have our offensive line interchange positions for variance. I don’t think 4-3-3 will be our main formation but we’ll see.

  • 41 jesperfuglsang // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:21 PM

So in other words, this story is just bollocks ;)

  • 42 Harley // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:21 PM

I don’t believe this for a minute. I’d love to sign him but think this is just another made up story (not by ed).
I wish we could just get a centre back and full back and I’d be happy. The icing on the cake would be a striker and midfielder.

  • 43 Valci // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:21 PM

Kets – one of the few times i find myself agreeing with you…Giroud is quality.

  • 44 Papiss9 // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:22 PM

Agree with you valci if we are going to play 433.
But AP says he is depending on Ba in a central role, that means 4-4-2 with BA Cisse upfront.

    http://www.football365.com/news/21554/7927171/Ba-central-to-Pardew-s-plans

  • 45 RobertNufc25 // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:22 PM

Remy over Carroll all day long for me like. :-)

  • 46 Valci // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:24 PM

Papiss – i’ve seen the statement…maybe Cisse will play wide you never know hehe. He’s a lot more mobile then Ba but it would indeed be a waste cause Cisse is a poacher…finds the goal from any position.

  • 47 RobertNufc25 // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:24 PM

Anybody on here having problems with virgin media today?

  • 48 Papiss9 // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:25 PM

for me Ba is poor on the left wing, and to put Cisse out on the wing is a waste of a top quality finisher, maybe the best finisher in PL.

  • 49 pardews plan B // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:26 PM

Not interested til we have a confirmed signing now.
The childhood footballer of the day is Carlos valderama

  • 50 Ben3arfa // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:28 PM

    Remy > Judas

  • 51 pardews plan B // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:30 PM

@papiss 9 ba is better in the centre but is still quite threatening on the wing for me.
Maybe we will play more of a diamond Formation with dembas up top and cabaye behind them

  • 52 Valci // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:31 PM

PPB – i suggest gheorghe hagi as your next childhood footballer of the day. Best player my national team has ever seen.

  • 53 Papiss9 // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:34 PM

    PpB

I think it is quite easy to find a more effective player on the left wing than demba ba. He does a job there ofcourse, but would much rather play jonas, sammy or marvaux if the role is winger in 4-3-3.

But i think we will play 4-4-2. Ba Cisse is a really good duo.

In midfield it might be HBA cabaye tiote jonas/marvaux

  • 54 pardews plan B // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:35 PM

Hagi. Cracking player. Think the mackems might be able to convince all my childhood footballers of the day to come out of retirement.

  • 55 Dannyo // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:35 PM

Why do people assume they’ll play together every match? It’s a long season. One to play with the other subbing on. And vice versa.

  • 56 Valci // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:37 PM

Papiss – i hope youre wrong…seems a waste for HBA, Cabaye and even Marv to be fo far back. Like i’ve said…i’d prefer 4-2-3-1 with the 3 mentioned above playing behind the striker…you can rotate Ba/Cisse depending on form…and we also have lots of games this year so i dont really see a problem.

Pardew has said on nufctv that he sees tavernier as a centre back in the long term.. He’s 5ft 9!! He can never be a centre back he would be beaten in the air constantly.. Also feel that fergie isn’t a left back like pardew thinks he’s a tricky winger

    @yorkshire
Disagree, have u seen Barcas back 4? Which of those are over 6ft?
Pace and positioning is all, he’s strong too.
As long as u’ve got Collo, Saylor or Willo, u’r ok, and we’ve got several big players to help on set pieces.

  • 62 Papiss9 // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:44 PM

with our squad my first team would be this:

    ——————–Krul———————-
    Simpson–Colo——-Taylor——Santon
    ———-Tiote————-Cabaye———
    HBA———marvaux/BA——jonas/marv
    ——————Cisse————————-

  • 63 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:45 PM

We don’t really need a winger. We have Obertan, Ben Arfa, Raylor, Gutierrez and Marveaux on the wings.

Ferguson is more of a winger than a defender. We need an attacking midfielder, however, our priority signings should be Debuchy, a decent centre back, Anita and Remy.

Tavernier will remain as a right-back.

  • 64 nightfa11 // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:47 PM

yorkshireToon – cannavaro was the best CB on the planet & he was 5 ft 9 in..=)

  • 65 blaydonracist // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:50 PM

marseille have said that they want €18 million for remy which is £14 million, personally I don’t feel that is a bad deal but we should go in for €15 million and try and meet them halfway as he would be a phenomenal buy
Also SSN is reporting that galatasaray are planning a bid for demba ba by the end of the month so a new striker is now almost a necessity

  • 66 Big Pappa Cisse // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:54 PM

    @ Yorkshire

Sometimes a player might be small but may have a great leap. Obafemi martins was tiny but leapt like a Salmon

  • 67 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:55 PM

I’d rather pay the money for Remy than Carroll. Anita should be signed to play alongside Tiote in the away matches and should be also used as a back-up option to Santon at left-back. I don’t see the point in us signing Cissokho and Debuchy as I feel that Santon should be a regular starter.

  • 68 Ben Arfa (Either love him or Hatem) // Jul 22, 2012 at 7:56 PM

I would really like us to be like this at the start of next season:
    —————————-Krul—————————-
    –Debuchy—Coloccini—-Douglas——Santon–
    —————Tioté—————–Gutierrez———-
    –Ben Arfa————Cabaye—————Remy–
    —————————Cissé—————————

Remy has played out on the left a lot this season for Marseille so would do a better job than Ba down the left.

  • 79 colwell // Jul 22, 2012 at 8:13 PM

Tavernier can easily make it as a CB in the prem. Unlike Willo,Tav can jump like he is 6ft4.

Anyone remember Ivan Cordoba from Inter Milan? he was small but quick like Tav and easily was a top CB in Serie A. No one can say that league is not physical.

  • 80 ochytoon // Jul 22, 2012 at 8:15 PM

I’m actually quite surprised that people are believing we’ve bid for Remy. If spurs can’t get him then I doubt we can.
Pard’s and the team have 2 weeks to get new players in if we want them ready for the start of the season. Need time to settle and get into our style of play. With the fanning about our boards been doing with other clubs recently, I just can’t see that happening. I’m predicting a panicky last week of the transfer window. Hate to be negative but that’s just the way I see it; more than prepared to eat humble pie if I’m wrong.

Like a lot of people have said it looks like NUFC are a victim of their own success in the transfer market.

    1) If we are interested in a player abroad and it gets out then other bigger clubs who may not have even see the player before are suddenly alerted to them.

    2) As we focus on the dutch and french leagues we are often negotiating with clubs we have already done business before (Twente and Lille for example) and they won’t be mugged twice!

    3) We seem to be trying to buy quality players like Debuchy, Carroll, Douglas, De Jong but they will expect to automatically get in the 1st team….something which I assume we can never 100% guarantee and we don’t hae the carrot of champions league or sky high wages to turn their heads.

I think we could be looking at Plan C’s coming in more than Plan A’s and as long as we keep the squad we have together and these players prove beneficial to the squad, I’m happy with that

  • 87 Dannyo // Jul 22, 2012 at 8:30 PM

    @outsidethebox
I see the point, but Collo was top of headed clearances last season and Tav jumps like he’s 6ft5. I’m not saying he’ll permanently play there, but he’ll be quite able to handle the role imo.

  • 88 Beattie25 // Jul 22, 2012 at 8:30 PM

    Hi guys,

Long time blogger first time reader.

Regarding signings this season, and if we do fianally sign Debuchy, I’d be amazed if we signed any more first team players from France. I think we’ve almost filled our quota of French signings and wouldn’t be suprised to see us raid the Dutch, German and/or Iatalian markets again.

Has Tasci moved yet? Diego Contento is looking for a move!

    Keep tuned you rowdy buggers

  • 89 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 22, 2012 at 8:36 PM

I think Debuchy and Anita will be our first signings. We’ll probably bid and miss out on Remy and then make a last minute bid for Carroll and pay out too much. I’ll be annoyed if we pay more than £13m for Carroll.

Has anyone seen much of Kyriakos Papadopoulos that plays for Schalke?
Seen him a few times for Greece and since there is so much confusion and doubt around Douglas, why not try for him?
Young strong center back, already in the Greek international team and surely can still develop in the EPL!

  • 92 nick_9 // Jul 22, 2012 at 8:40 PM

At first I thought we did need a winger but we actually have a lot of wingers but just not quality ones. For me Ben arfa must start on the right and then the left wing can be between marveaux and Jonas. Obertan I am not convince about and I think he has dropped below sameobi in the pecking order for me with ferguson also pushing for a starting place.

As frustrating as our dealings are we are very smart in the window, we offer ridiculously low amount which frustrates us fans who wants quick signings through the door and often want to stump up the amount the selling club are asking for. It’s bound to go to the wire a lot of the time with the club and player getting more restless as the end of the window approaches. I love the way we hold our stance and test the waters with low bids, if the club agrees to sell we get a bargain, if they don’t then they will publicly condemn the club alerting others to the players whilst we are no doubt pursuing other players. Its got to the point where I expect our signings to be made at the very end of the window as we hold our nerve and I hardly believe any of the speculation regarding players until they are over the line. Even Carroll and Debuchy could be smokescreens or cheeky bids whilst we are in talks with others.

As for any players who has stated they don’t want to play for us then I don’t want them at the club. Didn’t Douglas or his agent say bigger and better clubs than us are interested in him? If we are interested in him then could he be saying he doesnt want to leave holland so it doesn’t affect his Dutch citizenship?

  • 112 SpaceGhost // Jul 22, 2012 at 9:04 PM

I wish we get Debuchy, Anita, Guidetti. Plus what we already have esp the youngsters. That was their audition for Europe. Sammy, Abeid, Vukic, Ferguson, Bigirimana & Tavernier. He is our cover CB I reckon. Against Fenerbeche he was magnificent in that role. It was good to have the Captain next to him. Elliot was poor last night. Makes me worry every time he’s on the bench.

  • 113 Marty-Toon // Jul 22, 2012 at 9:05 PM

We do need a powerful defender and one that can score from corners as Willo couldn’t score in a million years even with his height.
Must say tis annoying waitin on 1st team signings.
Don’t think BA will be sold in this window.
Think we will get a Cb a RB and maybe a pacy striker

  • 114 niafron // Jul 22, 2012 at 9:05 PM

    GT89

Excellent question! Well, those are two good players, both of them more the offensive kind.

Those are two things against Azpi, first, he’s playing the olympics, so he’s not immediatly availlable, second (and that’s famore important) he got a severe Knee injury two seasons ago.

    So there’s maybe a risk.

Anyway he’s an excellent player, you can see him as a right footed Jose enrique if i got to compare him with someone.

Well, i would pick Debuchy nonetheless, if he’s still a reachable target.

Sure, you know my opinion on this, we need a LB, not a RB.

  • 115 toonarmydownsouth // Jul 22, 2012 at 9:06 PM

  • 117 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 22, 2012 at 9:11 PM

Well you don’t understand the game of football properly. Boyce is better at everything in comparison with Simpson. He even scores crackers.

Scharner is versatile. Mike isn’t. Scharner offers more to a team. Mike doesn’t. Scharner is a good player. Mike is inadequate.

  • 118 niafron // Jul 22, 2012 at 9:11 PM

Concerning Rémy, he will never come for such a price. THis is at least 15 millions.

Well, there’s thing i do not understand. As i said we need a LB not a RB.

And now, we try to enlist strikers for huges amounts of money when we already have Cissé and Ba…

I really rate Rémy, but for me, this senseless….

  • 119 niafron // Jul 22, 2012 at 9:12 PM

  • 128 greek toon // Jul 22, 2012 at 9:37 PM

Did any1 hear Marvin Martin signed for Lille, I would have liked him in our CM with Cabaye and Tiote. However on the striker situation Remy or Gameiro would initially be better then Carroll in my opinion as he would play
    Tiote-Cabaye-Ben Arfa
    Remy/Gameiro-Cisse-Ba

all three Interchanging between each other however if we get Carroll then we can move HBA and Ba on the wings and play Cisse up top with Carroll

  • 129 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 22, 2012 at 9:38 PM

  • 131 niafron // Jul 22, 2012 at 9:42 PM

    @Ben arfa

Well, in this case, you must sell either Cissé or Ba before. Newcastle isn’t Man city, for two reasons we can afford ourselves to have three strikers of that level in the team.

    First:

This is a waste of ressources. We aren’t a rich club, we must be clever.

    Second:

It could be a mess in the dressing room. When you play in a Top 10 european club, you accept more easily to be on the bench or even in the crowd.

They explain the Remy case well on nufcfans. Says we made an enquiry but Marseilles were having none of our cheeky low offers. Would be great player to sign and i’d love it we signed Remy or Gameiro but niafron has a point as it would be difficult to have all Cisse, Ba and Remy together as they’ll all want to start at CF. Remy and Ba can play out wide but they’d definitely want to play CF any day ahead of that. A younger player like Castaignos would probably be a better justification however i’d jizz in my pants if we signed Remy or Gameiro.

  • 154 SupaToonKid // Jul 22, 2012 at 10:11 PM

Somebody like Rhys Williams would be a top signing and not for massive money either (£5M maximum probably). He’s one of the best players in England outside the Prem, still pretty young at 24, versatile (can play RB, CB & CDM), strong and tall at 6’2″ and as i said above shouldn’t be too pricey. Would be a great alternative to Anita if that doesn’t (as it looks at the moment) come off.

Of course i’d still love Moussa Sissoko as our new CM but Williams is a great player and i think he would easily make the grade in the Prem.

  • 155 Ketsbaia9 // Jul 22, 2012 at 10:13 PM

I think £13m will get him. De Jong would’ve been a better signing due to his age. Moura will be a good signing. He could break into the first team.

I dunno if MAIAM is a mackem troll but he sure is unpleasant. I wouldn’t be sorry if he didn’t foist his ‘ITK’ voodoo bulls**t on us again.

I think its time to lay off the stuff cos Ketsy is making occasional sense. Thing i most admire is his restraint.

@jack ba is a monster and all in the air but he is not as fast and his movement is not as good as cisse’s although his hold up play is better

but the real reason is cisse is so so clinical near everything touches near turns into a goal…I’d say 95% of the time cisse shoots he will force a save

  • 219 MacToon // Jul 23, 2012 at 12:40 AM

JackNUFC, easy, Cisse the goal machine.

  • 220 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Jul 23, 2012 at 12:41 AM

Jack….Ba’s great and did us so well for the first part of the season and can continue to play a big role for us, however, there is just something about Cisse’s movement, touch on the ball, shooting.

I only caught a few minutes of the friendly, but saw Cisse’s shot. There was like no effort and it’s spot on target and trouble’s the keeper. He is a pleasure to watch and you just expect something sensational each time the ball comes to him.

    Well, that’s me anyway :)

  • 221 kevymartins // Jul 23, 2012 at 12:42 AM

Both great players but Cisse is by far the more clinical

  • 224 LGFUAD21 // Jul 23, 2012 at 1:46 AM

    My essay of the day.

Very ambitious bid for Remy. Have been paying attention to him for the past year and I really rate him. But just like Lille and Twente, Marseille will more than likely also be wary of us after we got HBA for an absolute steal from them.

It could be another smokescreen. (Just a pint to whoever mentioned Cabaye being a sock signing, he was the only player we signed last summer that I had heard a credible link with). But it could be a sign.

At first I though, maybe these bids for strikers are to line potential deals up in case we lose Ba through that clause. But someone’s Cisse link/story makes me curious (doubt it though he’s only been here 6 months).

I still think we really need a goalscoring wide player personally (Like Hoilett would have been) as it gives better options for a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 formation.

    On yesterdays game:

Unfortunately I was unable to watch it and the highlight video did not give me much of an insight as it only showed shots (no build up play to give an indication of our flow). I did browse the comments on here and spoke to my Gooner friend today (who did watch it) and he had some very positive things to say.

Firstly he said that considering we were playing a very youthful side against a quite strong CL side, we gave them a very good game, that Fenerbache looked dangerous on the break but that we seemed to be the better team all around.

He said Obertan started well and fizzled and that Abeid and Sammy were excellent. He said Cisse also looked good but Ba looked tired and fed up.

Would anyone say these are fair comments?

Also could someone give me a well considered (not just “he was cr@p”, more like “this was good, but this needs improving”) opinion on the following players:

    Shola
    Vuckic
    Gosling
    Amalfitano
    Tavernier

  • 225 LGFUAD21 // Jul 23, 2012 at 2:10 AM

Just going through the archives from relegation season. So many comments saying Colo should be sold, terrible buy, not up to Prem standard.

Really does show how much we all know

  • 226 toonLYF // Jul 23, 2012 at 2:11 AM

LGF i think the goalscoring wide player, tailor made for us, is Adam Johnson, offers us a more direct option, and WILL get 1-5 goals 5-10 assists a season undoubtedbly; for me he is our best realistic option.

    On that list of players
    Shola was typical Shola…

Vuckic had an off game i think everyone agree’d, looked off the pace completely, chased the game and hesitated on the ball, but no worries, he’s done more good to convince me he’s a good solid player

Gosling i thought was poor (showed decent touches and play for around 15 minutes) but overall for me doesn’t have the composure and decision making of a sucessful top flight CM

Amalfitano was injured in the warm up

Tavernier had a good solid game, comfortable on the ball, happy to go forward every so often, and picked a few decent passes, liked the look of him.

  • 227 Dimitri // Jul 23, 2012 at 3:50 AM

Another reason why I’m happy with Newcastle’s transfer policy. Not only we’ve been savvy financially. The potential players’ attitude and characters are seriously taken into consideration. Bigirimana, Amalfitano, Cabaye, Obertan, Ba, Cisse, Abeid. They all seem to be very down to earth. No longer blindly buying players based on footballing qualities alone – Dyer, Bellamy, Woodgate etc. This is one reason why I don’t see us coming in for Remy, Carroll or Douglas, all who seem to be full of themselves. They’ll upset the current camp with their antics.

  • 228 jonobbad // Jul 23, 2012 at 5:13 AM

Cisse can’t move til at least January.
Fifa rules state a player cannot play for 3 clubs in a 12 month period. He was a freiburg player at start of Jan this year.
So he ain’t going anywhere yet

  • 229 Kc-Toon // Jul 23, 2012 at 5:19 AM

Cisse looked a diffrent class compared to everyone else when he came on. Every single touch was perfect, a couple of good balls into the box, especially the one seen on the highlights where he swung it in with his left foot, for shola to hit into the gorund…
Sammy needs to work on his final product for me, He give alot of running, but not much quality to match. This is bound to come with age though.
Vuckic’s game was summed up by the chance he had, where he opted to play it back for ba when he could have gone 1vs1. He seemed scared to take chances, playing simple balls, and unchararisticly not shooting from distance.
Tavenier was the player to really impress me during the game, Playing as a CB alongside colo, he seemed just as composed. Hard tackler, A few good long passes, which i havnt seen from a newcastle Cb since the days of titus bramble! I dont think he was troubled in the air, but i could imagine playing CB in the premier league, he was be blullied by teams such as stoke.
Gosling didnt do anyhting for me, I dont see any quality in him, Hes a willing runner, But looses the ball to often for a CM.
Amalfitano pulled up in the warmup, So marvauex replaced him. I dont think the game suited him, He looked an intelligent player, but he didnt have the room to make things happen. He certaintly seemed to have more flair than other players.
Bigi replaced tiote, which on paper is a huge ask for a 18year old lad, but he filled in extremely well. He distrubuted the ball alot better than tiote, great passes with his left foot, and a 40 yard pass to sammy really caaught the eye. He chased the ball down as well as tiote, but dosnt have the stregnth ot tackling ability to match tiote at all.

  • 231 Valci // Jul 23, 2012 at 7:16 AM

I dont think we’re getting Remy if Marseille want 18mil euros…dont wanna crush your hopes but i dont see it happening. However, i would like a top quality striker signing.

I for one cant understand some of you guys saying that we should get a young/backup striker that wont mind sitting on the bench…i disagree. When you factor in injuries, ACON, sheer number of matches this season and possible loss of form i think we should have 3 strikers of similar quality to be sure. I dont want to see players getting into the starting 11 based on last year’s performance either…as far as im concerned last year doesnt matter anymore. This should apply to everyone, even Cisse…if he has a dip in form he should be benched just like any other players. So i definitely think a 3rd quality striker is needed whoever that may be.

Colo was bad that season and so was Enrique. They was not worth what we had paid for them, but they came good.

we are just being realistic mate ;-) we are not Citeh or Chelsea.

Chances are mate you will just be disappointed come september and some of us will we content ;-) hehe

Basically we need a backup in each position the rest will be youngsters. That should be enough mate and we have Shola.

  • 234 Valci // Jul 23, 2012 at 7:31 AM

Jesper – you misunderstand … i’m not saying i expect us to get one but the reasoning some people have offered is just wrong. What if both Dembas are of to ACON?… we should be getting another striker to challenge the starting 11. But like i said…im not necessarily expecting that we will.

  • 235 tarie4 // Jul 23, 2012 at 7:35 AM

People who say gosling was poor etc baffle me. He was a strong candidate for man if the match for me. Yes he had a slow start to the game, but grew into the game. At half time he was our best player.
but I guess u watched a different game from me :)

  • 236 jesperfuglsang // Jul 23, 2012 at 7:44 AM

    @Valci

I get your point mate ;-)

But I think Shola is the one to push both Ba and Cisse. I am not Shola’s biggest fan but I think that is how it will be this coming season.

But U do expect us to sign another forward just think he will be a U21 ;-)

But we do have options I think; Sameobi, Obertan, Vuckic and HBA can all play in a forward position I just take some tactical manuvers from Pardew ;-)

I would like us to play with a fake #9 more anyway in a more hybrid formation as we have discussed before B-)

  • 237 Premiership Manager // Jul 23, 2012 at 7:55 AM

This is smoke and daggers and it wouldn’t suprise me if we are trying to force Liverpools hand for a deal with AC.

If Chelsea are also looking to buy the Hulk we should offer them £10M for Sturridge as he should be playing first team football but his options seem to be very limited if Chelsea continue to be associated with more world class forwards.

There are lots of things going on at the moment and it will get worse over the next few weeks as we get closer to the start of the season.

Worryingly AP has stated that we will be playing some of the youngsters in the Euro’s which does make you wonder what is going on. Admittedly we do have some good kids but the club need to get their priorities sorted out.

  • 238 Valci // Jul 23, 2012 at 8:04 AM

Jesper – right…too early for this hehe. Well you got what i was saying and thats what matters. lads, just had a very interesting and eloquent guest at a bbq last night (who has close ties with liverpool) tell me that Andy Carroll is trying his best to engineer his way out of lfc and back to nufc- and liverpool are happy to let him go for not very much… Apparently the way he has been treated by the liverpool hierarchy/coaching staff has been terrible and this is playing a big part to his wanting a move.

This guest is also is very good friends with jose enrique and explained that he left as he simply saw liverpool as the bigger club (with the bigger pay packet)… i will ask tonight as to whether he regrets the move due to our success last season…

I am meeting with ‘the guest’ again tonight- if you guys have any burning questions about transfers in general ill try my best to ask him discreetly and get back to you all- trust me he knows his stuff and once i feel i can, ill let you know who this bloke is.

I couldn’t agree more. I think the players character and how they conduct themselves off the field are crucial factors to harmony at a club, ie not falling off barstools

  • 247 TorqToon // Jul 23, 2012 at 9:12 AM

Ok so for the week ahead I would love for us to firm up our targets and finally make some major waves in the transfer window. The 1st 3 pre seasons have been great for getting our lads back in the flow and bedding in Amalfitano (he needs a nickname to save all the typing!), abeid, bigi, Sammy etc. Getting our younger lads involved in games. But now I really think we need to bring in some first team players and use our second part of pre season to aid them. Apart from AC, our transfer news has gone so quiet recently, and that could be a good thing. The Carroll rumours at least kept us bloggers busy for a while but now the tempers are flaring…we need som positive news soon before the troops start revolting! :-)
