When former Newcastle striker Peter Lovenkrands was 20 years old he went to Rangers instead of to Newcastle in 2000, because he thought he would get more playing time north of the border, and he ended up marrying a bonny Glasgow girl.
Davide Santon - reveals he’s found romance on Tyneside – didn’t take long
That’s interesting because you find a lot of footballers who are married to girls they met when they were young, and playing at clubs away from their homeland.
Other examples include Wigan coach Roberto Martinez and Italian International Gennaro Gattuso, who also married Scottish girls.
And it looks like 21 year-old Davide Santon may follow suit, as he has said today he’s already found love on Tyneside, and is now engaged to an English girl.
Davide has given an interview with Calciomercato in Italy and says he is physically fit and enjoying his pre-season at Newcastle United, and he also reveals he has no intentions of leaving Newcastle, even though Roma have more than once been linked with the Newcastle full-back this summer.
Here is just a little of what Davide has said today:
“I get along with all the squad sincerely. If I speak Italian I do so with Captain Coloccini.” “We are really united and together. There are no problems between us. And I think you see that on the field.”
“The only thing I miss is the food of Italy. For the rest I do not miss anything.” “Then I found love here: I am engaged to an English girl who loves me and is not looking for fame.”
”And yes, it is true – Giallorossi (Roma) have spoken with the leaders of Newcastle but the British have explained how I am not for sale. And I’m glad they did it.”
Just can’t understand why he misses the food in Italy, when there are culinary delights on Tyneside, like that full English Breakfast (there’s nothing better), tripe and onions, black pudding, and those Vanilla slices from Greggs, plus everything else the bakers serve up – simply delicious.
So we need to know more of who this English girl is, although one of the things that Demba Ba says about Newcastle, is that the fans leave him alone to his privacy, and that’s good.
So maybe we don’t need to know too much more about the English girl – although we assume she’s a Geordie:
