Mathieu Debuchy has failed to turn up for his first pre-season training session at Lille on Saturday, and it would appear he’s trying to force a move through to Newcastle United, or so says a report in the French Media today.
Mathieu Debuchy – fails to turn up to Lille pre-season training
The news is being reported on the French web-site Voix du Nord and it seems that Mathieu is simply desperate to get on Tyneside as soon as he can.
The word from Lille is that they are willing to let Debuchy leave the club, once a fee has been agreed with Newcastle, but also only when they get a suitable replacement for the French International right-back.
The Lille Director General Frederic Paquet has said this on Voix du Nord today:
“Mathieu has told us of his intention to leave the club.” “We do not intend to put up a fight with the player over his decision.” “e like him, but as long as we can find a replacement of the same level, we will let him leave.”
Voix du Nordis is reporting that Debuchy was supposed to train with the Lille squad on Saturday, after having extra time off for his exploits with France in Euro 2012, but he did not show up.
They are then putting two and two together and assume it’s an effort by the 26 year-old to force a move through to his preferred next club – Newcastle United – who have a terrific reputation in France.
Only last week the 9 times capped French International had showed some of his frustration with the way his club Lille, the only club he has ever played for, were dragging their feet on the deal.
This is what Mathieu said:
“I will do everything I can to move elsewhere. Players have been suggested to them and still nothing happens. It disappoints me and it bothers me.”
It would seem that things will heat up this week with the French international, who seems to want to get to Newcastle asap, presumably so he can join the next tour the club have planned, with games in Portugal this Friday and Saturday.
But the first thing that has to happen is Newcastle have to agree a fee with Lille, which they haven’t done yet, and don’t forget Italian giants Inter-Milan are also interested in the player.
And we are always assuming this report is accurate.

Comment #161Anyone else thought this, AC and Remy in Demba out. Just a possible scenario, if he does leave hope its someone outside the EPL otherwise may have to hope that dodgy knee kicks in.
