Newcastle Linked With Loic Remy For Over Four Years

We have to say that it was a  surprise that Newcastle bid so much for Loic Remy, if the report in Le 10 Sport that Newcastle offered around €12M (about £9.5M) for the 25-year-old French striker is true, and Newcastle have tracked the player since September of 2007, according to our archives.

Loic Remy – news that Newcastle interested

Of course the first thing to say, is that we are assuming the news is true, which is always dodgy at any time of the year, but more so during the summer transfer window.

So we will assume the news is true, although we may get some reaction to the news from Alan Pardew later today, and there’s no doubt Loic is a very good player, but whether he’s worth close to  £10M to Newcastle, we’re not too sure of that.

The first time we reported on Remy was on September 28th of 2007, and the news at that time was the then 20 year-old could be signing for Newcastle in the following January, when big Sam Allardyce was managing Newcastle,  and Mike Ashley had just bought the club.

And a good question is if Newcastle are really interested in Remy, then who else is on the striker list at Newcastle?

We would hope that John Guidetti, the 20 year-old Swedish striker, who played on loan at Feyenoord last season is one of them, and of course Andy Carroll is still said to be a target, and the Geordie striker is due to report in with the Liverpool squad today, and they are currently in Boston.

There could be some news on Carroll in the next few days, as it’s almost certain that Andy will want to talk to new manager Brendan Rodgers, to find out what the future holds for him at Liverpool. We would guess the answer is – not much

But what if Marseilles had accepted Newcastle’s bid, assuming the news is true?

That would presumably mean that Newcastle’s pursuit of Carroll would be over, so it’s not clear exactly what Newcastle intentions are at the moment,  for that fourth striker.

Who do you think Newcastle should go after – our vote would be for a younger striker, and John Guidetti would be our choice.

John has 34 first team appearances for Brommapojkarna (Swedish club – on loan) Manchester City (just one appearance), Burnley (loan) and Feyenoord (loan) and the 6’1″ striker has scored 24 goals and has 12 assists – which is a good record.

He has one cap for Sweden so far, but played 10 times for the U21 side scoring four goals.

Let’s know who you think Newcastle should go after.

Ok so for the week ahead I would love for us to firm up our targets and finally make some major waves in the transfer window. The 1st 3 pre seasons have been great for getting our lads back in the flow and bedding in Amalfitano (he needs a nickname to save all the typing!), abeid, bigi, Sammy etc. Getting our younger lads involved in games. But now I really think we need to bring in some first team players and use our second part of pre season to aid them. Apart from AC, our transfer news has gone so quiet recently, and that could be a good thing. The Carroll rumours at least kept us bloggers busy for a while but now the tempers are flaring…we need som positive news soon before the troops start revolting!

I would much prefer Remy to the others on that list. Experience at the very highest level, and just the type of small, quick forward we need.

I personally would be very surprised if we haven’t made enquiries about Ajax’s Sulejmani again.

A former target who was out of our price range at the time, he is reportedly in the last year of his contract and fits the bill perfectly.

I don’t think we will spend more than 5 million pounds for a third striker if we spend more than 10 million £ s then that striker will replace ba

Myk – reading your first sentence made me cringe lol. I hate seeing the words “small” and “forward” being used together. Having said that, Remy is 6’1/2″ (roughly 1,84m) tall – so not really small – and is a skilled player. However, at the reported 18mil euros that Marseille are demanding i dont think we are getting him… i’m not even sure we were in for him at all outside a possible inquiry (no bid though).

I am beginning to wonder with all the rumours and Bull being published everywhere if we are actually in the race to sign anyone!

We were busy for weeks with De Jong and Douglas! De Jong is now at Monchengladbach for 15 Mil and Douglas?

Well no-one knows whats happening with the guy, not even the Managing Director of his own Club!

No-one seems to be making themselves busy anymore with Erik Pieters from PSV who missed the Euro,s but the last i heard was fit again, and is now involved with Pre-season training with PSV?

It does,nt really surprise me that a player has been on our wanted list for four years. All of us appear to be being kept in the dark! But there is so much Crap being published, par for the course i think!

    No News Is Good News!

Guidetti is the man we want!!! , good enough to challenge but not too miffed to be on the bench as hes only 20, i highly agree that we need a striker with pace, and guidetti has a bit of pace and tuns of skill. Cisse, ba and sholaaaaa dont have allot of speed, this is the main reason i dont want AC although there are others.

    I like Alfi – I say let’s crack on with that! 🙂

I too enjoyed the “BBQ story” – the problem is even if it had any truth in it…there’s so many ITK’s that come and go on this blog that they lose credibility!

If we want to show ‘Pool that Carroll is overpriced, what better way than to make a bid for a player who is better (general opinion) and yet would be available for less?

Of course, we put in a lowish bid, just to make sure it’s rejected, but rely on the feedback that £15 million would get Remy to demonstrate the real value of Carroll – a lot lower than £20 million and IMO only worth anything like £15 million if he accepts a near-50% cut in salary (can be increased if he proves himself)

And Yes, it’s a general comparison only as they are very different strikers.

Don’t see why we don’t just put it the max we will for targets and see what happens say bid for two strikers bid for two centre backs bid for two full backs and see which gets quickest response and if our highest offers get rejected move on!

I reckon Newcastle could get Remy signed up for 12 million. Which is a lot, but looking at who is available, and for what price. I don’t see anyone better being available for Newcastle. Perhaps Lewandowski depending on who Man Utd etc go after.
