We reported on 24th June, that Newcastle were interested in 23 year-old Abdel Barrada, who plays for Getafe in the Spanish first division, as a central midfielder and can also play out on the left wing.
Abdel Barrada –
The thing that put us of those reports for the youngster was that his fee was pegged at £9M by The Sun, and there’s no way Newcastle would pay that much for a 3 times capped Moroccan International, who only became a first team regular at Getafe last season.
There was more news on the Newcastle link yesterday when the lad had this to say to the media in Morocco:
“It is at the stage of rumours at the moment, I heard of interest from Newcastle a long time ago, the Everton one has been in the papers.” “I am a Getafe player and happy to be here, if I am wanted by a club, they know what they have to do.”
“Newcastle is an exciting team in a very big league, so is Everton, so to join one of them will be great.” “They have great tradition and are appealing to any player who wants to test himself against the best players.”
Tottenham, Everton, Real Madrid and PSG are also said to be interested in the player, and if PSG are really interested we can kiss goodbye a decent deal for then player, who Newcastle would be hoping to move to Tyneside for £3M, and not the reported £9M.
We are just waiting for Man City and PSG to go after the same player, and see what ridiculous amounts of money those two clubs would bid for the same target.
But it’s always good when a player gives Newcastle some good publicity in the papers, even if we are not after him. 😀
