The Journal is reporting today that Newcastle United will finally wrap up their deal to sign Mathieu Debuchy from Lille, when the team return from their Portugal excursion early next week.
Mathieu Debuchy – signing next week?
Only yesterday, there was news that Newcastle would step up their push to bring three players into the club, and Debuchy was one of those players.
And apparently personal terms have already been agreed with the player, so we assume Newcastle got permission to discuss the personal terms, since it usually comes after a fee has been agreed between the two clubs.
But the terms were never going to be the problem, but the news today in the Journal is that Newcastle will finally increase their bid, and it seems Newcastle expect Lille to accept it – so we assume some negotiations have already been completed with the French club – if that news is to be true.
Newcastle are said to have already offered €5M which is around £4M for the French International, but the good news is that the French side have now signed Djibril Sidibe for £2M from Troyes earlier this week, and therefore have met one of their goals – in getting a replacement before they let Matthieu go.
Certainly it seems Alan Pardew will be pleased with this news, although he is in the loop on these things, and would have been updated on the news this week.
And it will bring to an end two years of watching Debuchy, after the 9 times capped French International impressed the season before last, when Chief Scout Graham Carr was scouting Yohan Cabaye, Mathieu’s pal, who is now on Tyneside, having signed last year for €5M, through a release clause in his contract.
This will be excellent news if it is true and we can get this lad on Tyneside, and now watch to see if Newcastle push to sell current first choice right-back Danny Simpson.

Comment #7Has anyone thought the reason the transfer is taking so long is because we are also trying to offload Simo and are struggling to get rid at a decent price hence the hold up?

“Do we need to sign another 10m+ striker?”
We need another striker if Sammy or Vuckic will be playing in midfield.
The problem is every striker we approached their price become inflated. I don’t think the club is looking for 10m+ striker, the asking price of the clubs are 10m+. Probably it has something to do with last season success, we did buy cheap players who become excellent. Now they think if NUFC want their players, they must be excellent quality and worth 10m+.

Comment #15not sure why everyone seems to think carroll would replace Ba, We played 2 up top alot last season, if you look at how many minutes Best, Shola and Lovenkrands notched up its obvious we need another top striker! Also, not sure how many people have actually watched andy carroll, but he drifts out to the left side alot, an awful lot actually and started his career as a left back, theres no reason to think he couldn’t play on the left side of a front 3! Because of Ba’s knee, I can’t imagine us going into the season relying on just him, shola and cisse! Personally i’d have carroll over remy for a couple of reasons, he’s proven for us in the premier league, we wouldn’t be a stepping stone for him to a bigger club, and I honestly believe if carroll comes back, he’ll be our centre forward for a good 8 years! I think Andy grows 25% as a player when he puts on the black and white! If he comes back, i hope we all give him the benefit of the doubt, hes made his mistakes and we should all get behind him!

Comment #19As for sammy, vuckic and Abeid, I think they will all go out on loan this season to championship clubs, all 3 need playing time! I think bigirimana needs a season at the toon learning from the coaches and senior players! Its also time for Gosling to become a premier league player that he has the potential to be! Cabaye, Tiote, Gosling, Perch, Taylor and Bigi should see us covered in central midfield though if we played 4-3-3 perhaps we’d need another top draw midfielder? Actually think 4-3-3 away from home with tiote and perch shielding the back 4 would be pretty immense, say what you like about perch, he gave some top performances for us last season, I think he’s earnt the right to be considered for first team places!

No chance Ba scored 16 goals last season and Carroll scored something like 4, Ba every time. Hope Remy comes rather than Carroll. Carroll is a goal poacher like Ba and Cisse but Remy can run at defenders like Ben Arfa which would be could upfront.

Just spent 5 mins typing a very similar post but my phone messed up and lost it so kept the next one short and sweet. Should be building our team around geordies who would die for the cause. Ba isnt a target man as cant win the ball in the air. We look like gona go 442 again and its andy and shola with cisse or Ba playing off the big man for me. However agree Andy more than just a lump and can play across a front 3 too

Comment #22would love to see debuchy finally sign! not sure how many people watched him for Lille?? but he was a very different player to the one that played for france! very very assured on the ball, great crosser! Gets caught out of position a bit though (bit like santon) when hes bombing forwards, never seems to smash a 50 yeard clearance though, always plays out!

Comment #23Carroll is so so over rated it made me laugh when Liverpool bought him for 35million more than aguero, tevez, Rooney the list keeps on going. One good season he had. We don’t need another tall striker we need a skillful pacey one. Ba is far better than Carroll. I would personally never take him back all he does is head the bloody ball.
I am looking forward to debauchy bombing it up the wing – boom and santon doing the same on the left. Now we need another centre back as backup like Douglas and another quick striker,

Comment #24Thinking about this Logically and Realistically.
We don,t really need to sign that many players, if i may express an opinion!
If you believe the story above then Debuchy is as good as here.
One striker, would be enough i think!

Comment #25On Debuchy, WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST BUSSINESS OF THE WINDOW IN EPL. For sure 🙂
ON CARROLL TOPIC
P.s
i think AC would be usefull, very usefull, he win areal battles, and has a lot of strenght, we must have him. IMO he is not that slow and untechnical, he is a good player and his strength is determination, power, heading and hold up play. Willo and Simmo and Krul often puts the ball long upfront what so ever and Carroll would try to recover some of them. P.s carroll could be a good forward for us, it doesn’t mean we will play Hoofball, WE WILL HAVE options and AC in attack will mean that Obertans, Ben Arfas and Marveaux’s crosses will have a better chance to be converted into the goals. Do we played hoofball then we’ve won agaisnts Villa 6-0 and sunderland 5-1? IMO we haven’t.

Comment #27NEWEXPATMAGPIE – personally i’d also like another CDM to play next to Tiote which would basically free up Cabaye to play in more of a CAM role between HBA and Marv for example.

Stats can be used in dif ways though mate. Andy got 11 in 18 or something in prem for town. Ba is useless for a month a year over ramadan, has apparently a knee which could go at any time, goes to acon, is lazy and wont contest aerial duels, plus wont commit and yet to prove hes commitd to the club with that clause. Hes also older and record at andys age was no better in worse keagues

Comment #31P.s But i really want the club to keep BA if he wants to play. On the other hand Loic Remy would offer other strenghts so that’s up to the manager and what he wants. Advantage for carroll is that he won’t need much time to settle in, he knows EPL and he loves the TOON, he is already commited to Black and White and will try to prove his worth for us – FANS. He is English international (IMO one of the Best English players in the EURO CHAMP)

Jonas is going to be that CDM. He works so hard, he deserves that starting place in the center of midfield.

Comment #34Plus Borini is no world beater.
For us i think 12-14mill tops for Carroll and i have no problem with him returning. But for 17mill we could probably sign Remy plus any one from Castaignos, Guidetti, Mirallas & Gameiro. And therefore have more depth and also players that will fit naturally into our more passing style.

Comment #36MFL – i wouldnt mind seeing Jonas there what with his work-rate and such. We’ll have to see what system Pardew goes for in the new season.
In fact, for all the bickering we’ve been having on this blog over which player is better or which would bring more to the team…in the end it very much depends on the system Pardew has in mind. I think any transfer we eventually make will be made with that in mind.

Comment #37Forget Carroll and just get this guy signed up. Carrolls fee is too high, he’s not worth it. If were going to spend that sort of money I’d rather have Remy and Debuchy and miss out on Carroll.

Comment #38Now, how many players have been linked with in the last few months!
Everyone has a favourite on here and their own ideas about who, and just how much, but as soon as we express an interest a so called transfer fee increases phenonenally and there are a host of other clubs, totally out of the blue after the same player!
How much does that suck!
For example- Douglas would of been good alongside Tiote but Twente having sold Cheick to us and playing hard-ball on De Jong.
Then continued to be difficult on Douglas, the whole situation was,nt helped by the fact that the player does,nt know what he wants to do anyway!
Eric Pieters van PSV is a name bantered around on here, and not seen for a time but he plays in the same position as Santon and Debuchy.
HBA is good on the wing and his long run and goal last year against Bolton blew me away! Marv coming back from long term injury is also a bonus!
