Yohan Cabaye may not see any action tonight against FC Braga, although manager Alan Pardew says he doesn’t really need much playing time, so he must have been showing up well in training.
Yohan Cabaye – may not play tonight against FC Braga
This is what Pardew told the Evening Chronicle after the game last night:
“I might give Yohan 10 minutes. It depends on the mood of the game. If it’s a calm game, I’ll stick him out there, but he doesn’t really need it.” “It’s just about letting him have a little taste.”
“Gael and Mehdi were good tonight, and Haris” “In that midfield area, we gave as good as we got against a top European side. They can be very proud of themselves.”
Certainly the Newcastle youngsters again showed up well but we thought that Haris Vuckic was again a little inconsistent, but there’s no doubt the lad has tremendous skill on the ball.
For us Gael Bigirimana was the best player for Newcastle, and this lad looks just terrific for an 18 year-old – what’s he going to be like in a couple of years time.
And for us this is the way Newcastle can build up their squad in the next couple of years, by bringing in top young talent like Gael, and 19 year-old Australian Curtis Good from the Melbourne Heart, should be signing this week.
And the Chronicle is again reporting that Newcastle should have a new senior player through the door soon, but it’s gone from being the beginning of next week, to the end of last week.
That player is thought to be Mathieu Debuchy, who is very keen to join up with Yohan on Tyneside, and he will be a great signing for Newcastle – assuming we can finally get him through the door, and his capture certainly hasn’t been easy – I feel worn out. :D.
But we suppose it’s a case of all’s well that ends well – and that could sum up Newcastle’s transfer season on September 1st – given we can get our targets through the door by then, and also keep all our other players.
And Danny Simpson will play tonight – maybe in central defense with Fabricio Coloccini, and it remains to be seen if he is offered a future at Newcastle, should Debuchy come through the door.
We hope he stays and signs that new contract, to offer some competition at both full-back positions.
And mentioning full-backs, Davide Santon hasn’t looked too good in pre-season so far, but he’s probably just getting into the swing of things – we hope he’s getting into the swing of thing.
We really need a strong squad for next season, and hopefully we’ll not lose any more players this summer.
And finally Ben Arfa has reported back in on Tyneside, after he attended a French Football Federation hearing in Paris yesterday, when he only received a warning for his conduct in the dressing room, when he apparently argued with the then French manager Laurent Blanc.

Comment #81For me the main positions we need are a RB,LB,CB,and striker and if possible another CM as weve not got a natural LB and not much cover for the rest and with the amount of games we,ll have we need a big squad and the cover players have got to be as good quality of whoever they come in to replace

Comment #84I feel bad for vuckic. He’s been played as striker the last matches which is clearly not his position and he’s had a bit of stick.
I think he showed what he’s about when he dropped deeper last night. He looked mich better in midfield. He’s only 19, he’ll come good.

Comment #85I have been pilloried in the past for saying that sadly santon is not a patch on Enrique. I have said on numerous occasions that he is never comfortable with a player running at him and this needs to change, quickly. At this rate, i’d be as happy to get a left back as right back. Not to mention a centre half. We still have a lot of cash left over from the Carroll deal, but Ashley sure is slow to spend it.

Comment #86Santon was probably the best player on the pitch yesterday. He’s looked good in pre-season. We need first team players in immediately.

Comment #88NUFCJohn, Santon amazing ? Not defensively he’s not. He’s a good player on the ball, great engine, athletic, technically good, and of course young. Many of you guys see more of the Toon than me, as you are living there, but I have yet to be convinced that he is good defensively. Just saw an article on the Mag saying the same, so at least I’m not the only one!! 🙂

Comment #95I no some of you wouldnt like carrol back either because he left for the scum or because he wouldnt fit in with our style of play, but if we were to get him then i think pardew would use both systems 433 and 442 so it confuses other teams

The girl you labeled yesterday as “stip tease girl” (the one on the picture whne Beny boy entered french federation) is in fact Louisa Necib, the playmaker and best player of our women’s national team!

Do you know he was a Red star player? Red star is the most famous club in the place i leave.
A third division club now, but a famous one in french football history.
Goufran can play either on the right wing or as a striker. Not a physical guy, but he’s quick and technical.
When he came to Bordeaux some season ago, he was anounced as future star, but he never made it.
However, he really imporved past season. So it could be a good move, depending of the price.

Comment #100I’ve got a serious question for some of you.
While Carroll was still a NUFC player before leaving to Liverpoo, how much would you have valued him at? Surely it wouldn’t be near that 35mill….
If you look at the other similar transfers which have taken place since,(Young English players) Downing, Young, Johnson, Henderson, Chamberlain. They have each been sold in the region of 10-20mill. With the exception of Chamberlain and Young, the other 3 have vastly underperformed, therefore their values surely would have dropped. Now lets look at Carroll, he is also young, english and therefore any club with a brain would have offered around 10-20mill for Carroll as opposed to 35mill.
So I ask you now, why would those of you who want him back be willing to pay around the same amount for Carroll now, then he would have been worth when we sold him?. Surely after a season and a half, 42 games and 6 goals his value would not have risen. Matter of factly it should have dropped. So why pay more for him then he is in theory worth?

let’s not kid ourselves, the fans aren’t stupid. why do those 2 names come up all the time, not just now and again but all the time when people say where are your team’s weak links, you don’t need to look any further.

some people just won’t see past the fact he’s a geordie and that you have to ”play to his strengths” – in short go arial all the time. We are better than that now. We finished 5th without carroll and a more footballing passing style, Liverpool with carroll went backwards where even the likes of gerrard couldn’t rescue him.

Both players some into the squad / journeyman category. They are average EPL standard, and not necessarily weak links as we don’t have a starting 11 worth £300m. They are used as scapegoats for other player errors as they are soft targets when the whole team has an off day.
Our ‘friend’ Kets, who really does despise both of them was very quick to slag Willo for the Greek goal last night when it was a combination of positional errors by Perch, Bigi etc.,
Usually an error takes in a sequence of missed tackles, poor covering, being out of position and so it is easier to blame individuals than the collective. But it is a team game and they are there to cover for each other..

Exactly. I’ve said that a couple times myself, but got replies saying he could adapt to the new style etc. Personally I feel he won’t be able to adapt….
If he could have adapt to a new style, then surely he could have adapted to Liverpool’s style of play as opposed to liverpool having to adapt their style of play to suit Carroll…
