Don’t think Marv was involved enough through out the whole game to be named MOTM but what he did do he did exceptionally well. Personally I think Sammy busted a gut for the full 90 and looked a much improved player.

Three best players were Collo, Cabaye and Marveaux, followed by Raylor for the free ick alone.

Sammy did some great stuff and some not so great stuff – still learning.

Imo the ball wasn’t played out to the left as much as it should have been. His pace and passing was really good and he is pretty classy also.

Marveaux just needs 5-10 games under his belt. He should be given a run like Obertan and HBA – he needs to take his chance.

I also think he’d look good in ACM, very composed and technical player.

Spuggy surely man of the match should be bestowed upon a player that played more than 15mins and did more than hit a FK (as glorious as it was)

    Collo was great though.

Tiote, Ba and Cisse are still a little way off. Maybe it’s the ramadan effect lol. Don’t want to sound disrespectful.

Why does Tiote have these games where nothing goes right, they crop up from time to time, not very often thank goodness.

Really tough call for sammy, Marv and colo
Marveaux – didn’t see enough of the ball to warrant it. However what he did was good
Colo – got caught out a few times which is unusual for him
Sammy- few mistakes however didn’t stop all the time he was on and had some real moments of magic.
And of course raylor has to be considered for that goal. Hope he saves it for the mackems.

I’m not doubting his ability, perhaps it wasn’t his fault that he wasn’t involved in play as much as he wanted to be. Like I said, any time he was on the ball he looked tidy in possession, great feet and turn of pace is excellent.

That little change of acceleration will beat many defenders and if we can keep him fit he can be a little gem but imo I just think it was a little stop-start for him to get MOTM (which is to be expected…I am not criticising him 😉 )

I agree – Collo was MOTM for me. I was just commenting on the best players who used the ball to effect when they had it.

Sammy ran his proverbials off – reminds me of Milner a lot.

i dont know if this has been mentioned, but check out the newcastle page on the bbc site and listen to bigi’s interview. the guy sounds so down to earth for an 18 year old.

i think he’s gunna be a real star for us, and he’s got the perfect mentor in cheick.

    Isn’t Ameobi(Sh)?

Shola must have played like a Jedi tonight because I didn’t even see him move and he’s got loads of votes from some people.

Sammy was MINT though. Where’s his vote button? 😀

    @Toon1978

I gave my vote to Sammy purely because I was delighted to see him play so well for such a sustained period of time. He looked really hungry to go out and prove to Pards that he will be a valuable player this season.

However, I do agree, Collo was his magnificent self as always. What a player! 😀

Yes, Ameobi was good this evening. However, next season i hope to see HBA down that right and Marveaux down the left so i think Europa will be the onlytime we see much of young Sammy.

I think the problem with Ba and Cisse is they don’t know when to run and when to hold off – they’re both single-minded goal scorers.

I think playing alongside each other makes them more hesitant. Quite a conundrum to solve for pardiola.

geordielad – fair enough mate, i can remember taviner covering him once which he is there to do but overall he oozes class, we must get another like him as for me Taylor and Williamson couldnt lace his boots. Thought taviner did well but lacks height for centre back.

He will definitely get a lot of game time off the bench and in cup games so he will get a lot of time under his belt. Having a player you can rely on to come off the bench and do what he has the potential to do is always a tasty prospect.

HBA will most likely be played wide right, Marv has the technical ability, pace and flair to play wide left so you probably right on that shout. It would be a great wide pairing if we can get them firing.

Ha ruddy yeah sounds right. And hotdog, I’d we can get someone anywhere near his calibre that will do. Undoutably one of if not the best centre backs in the league.

Ba and Cisse are both out and out goal scorers but the incredible skill they both have and the fact that they are very good mates on and off the field means they should be VERY effective playing together.

Even tonight look at the ball that Ba curled in that Cisse on just missed!

I’ve got no worries at all with either of them. ;D

Collo was the best player for me as he was also covering for Tavernier who for a young player looks to be an outstanding prospect. He did get caught out a few times but he was everywhere.

Marvaux if he stays fit will be a big player for us next season.

Young Sammy showed what he can do but is still has a lot to learn. His goal line antics show he still has to mature as a player but there is no oubt he has the raw tallent and ability.

My one worry is that we still give away the ball far too easily and we fail to boss the field. People complain about the possibility of Carroll coming back however much of the play yesterday was hoof ball to Demba Ba instead of keeping possesion, having good movement and playing passing football.

The best crosses came from Simpson and Raylor which is a great concern because both Marvaux and Sammy should be going down the line and firing crosses in. When they cut in the midfield gets congested and it’s easy for the oposition to close down play.

We do have a good squad however if we have aspirations to do well in Europe we need at least two more established players
