According to a report in the French web-site Le 10 Sport, Newcastle United have made a €6M bid, including bonuses, for Mathieu Debuchy, but have been told it’s not enough.
Mathieu Debuchy - Newcastle bid €6M – Lille Want €8M
€6M is around £4.8M, which seems a decent bid from Newcastle, but Lille President, Michel Seydoux, wants at least a couple of million euros more for his French International right-back, without any bonuses included in that amount.
With Google Translate and a little help from us here is a translation of the Le 10 Sport report from the French:
“In the next few hours, the leaders Newcastle need to submit a new offer – revised upwards – to Lille for Mathieu Debuchy- and the club is now awaiting the fax from Newcastle .”
“So far, the Magpies hve offered $6M, including bonuses. This time, President Michel Seydoux expects at least an offer of €8M, without any bonuses.”
”If the bid is not for that amount, the Chairman of the LOSC could lose patience and cut to the quick and close the door on the departure of Mathieu Debuchy, who in turn, absolutely wants to join Newcastle.”
“It remains to be seen how much the new offer is from the English club.”
So it does seem that things are getting to crunch time and push is coming to shove, and with Newcastle a little more than €2M off what Lille are now asking, surely the two sides can make a deal.
You would think that would be possible in the next few days – wouldn’t you?
What do you think?

Maybe we’ve been hit by a dilemma now that we have been offered Van der Wiel for less than Debuchy. Probably not & more likely down to Simmo still being here however it’s great we have plenty of options but please sign Debuchy, Van der Wiel or whoever soon MA!
17 MacToon // Jul 31, 2012 at 11:40 PM
rknufc, if that’s true then great, only what Colo deserves.
18 Tsunki // Jul 31, 2012 at 11:41 PM
Its ONLY 2 million ha ha I bet Mike still complains at Greggs about the price of the pasties.
Mikey n Del have categorically stated they do cash on the nail, no bonuses, image rights, no sell-ons and after Demba, no trigger bids. IF this story is true it means Lille really want as close to €7m as they can, and Ashley might do it at the last minute. But it will be last offer, we never come back, try explaining to your boy why you didnt sell.
And to all you `just give them all they ask` merchants get real, Ashley will never drop his drawers and bend over for that one, because that would mean his bargaining power has gone.
19 Sholadona // Jul 31, 2012 at 11:45 PM
Agree with Tsunki, there’s a pretty clear transfer policy and we will stick to it, no matter who the player is.

Cabaye won’t be very happy. I wouldn’t be happy either as I don’t see us getting top 4 with Simmo.

25 nimo // Jul 31, 2012 at 11:52 PM
They’ve never said they don’t do bond’s these could be if the team reaches champs league in next 3 yr etc.. What they’ve said is they won’t pay in installments .. Still don’t think its true till i hear for pards or the likes
26 Novocastrian66 // Jul 31, 2012 at 11:55 PM
No way WHU will pay more than his current wage, if it is a loan deal. If not and they are going to pay CL money to land Carroll, good luck to them both. If they are offering that amount of wedge, you couldn’t blame Carroll for moving on to them.
West Ham cannot sustain that sort of outlay. There are better players
available to go all in on, and WHU have been down that road before. Ask Pardew.
27 Tsunki // Jul 31, 2012 at 11:55 PM
I will bet the only incentives for players will be team targets reached, just like SD. Debuchy should be too old for value appreciated clauses.

29 hotdog // Aug 1, 2012 at 12:00 AM
He will be here this week lads, player power, if he wants to go they got to sell him for a reasonable fee and if £4million is right that is reasonable in my eyes and probably in Debuchy’s.
30 blaydonracist // Aug 1, 2012 at 12:01 AM
£6.2million pounds for one the best full backs in the world and one of frances 2 good players in the euro (we already have the other one) is an absolute steal. Also sky sources in italy are saying that inter milan are NOT chasing debuchy so c’mon, we are clearly the front and possibly only runners so if we can get a deal done asap that stops other, bigger clubs coming in and getting him

35 ToonDarnSarf // Aug 1, 2012 at 12:03 AM
To anyone who says, just pay the extra €2M as if it’s nothing, you seem to forget, that’s €2M out of our club! And if the club just caved into every demand from a selling club, we’d pay over the odds by a lot more than €2M every year.
36 Charlietoon // Aug 1, 2012 at 12:03 AM
Many a time in Ashleys reign have we walked away from deals because of a couple of million. I dont think he minds as it reinforces his reputation for not being stuffed about. I hope we do get him and I would think 6 million pounds would be about right.
37 superkrul // Aug 1, 2012 at 12:05 AM
Well well well demba ba becomes expensive hope he don’t get sold for crazy money maybe Ashleys plan ? Hope not !
38 Spuggy // Aug 1, 2012 at 12:07 AM
Don’t forget Debuchy will be key to keeping Cabaye in future, so for that reason alone he’s worth an extra 2m. Cabaye will be worth 20m+ next summer.
39 superkrul // Aug 1, 2012 at 12:08 AM
TDS …..So you are saying don’t spend that 2 mill more well if we don’t we won’t get him simple that is why we say pay 2 mill more its still pennys for a player like him ! So over the odds for a player like him howay son think about it !

41 toonontheup // Aug 1, 2012 at 12:11 AM
we are now run as a non profit club…we are in profit from sales this window and in march or whenever it was we were in profit of 35 million (top of the premier league) add the minus 3.3 million operation costs which were given to us in january so as we run as a non profit club where is the 32 million gone ??? surely we can afford debuchey plus his wages for 4 to 5 years
42 ToonDarnSarf // Aug 1, 2012 at 12:14 AM
superkrul – Not at all. What I am saying is that we know Mashley has screwed up on football related matters before, but he definitely know his stuff when it comes to getting a good deal (football or non-football). You can’t negotiate a good deal unless the other party thinks you are willing to walk away.
I reckon I’d be happy if we signed him for around £6M but I’m sure there are several alternatives if we don’t.

I am sure there is to but we will end up with simo at this rate don’t get me wrong I like him but he isn’t top class so if we buy debuchy for €8mill and sell simo we get the 2 mill that we payed more back if u get me . Time is running out for back ups with all this trying to buy players under the asking price its evry player we go for
48 gonufc (up and Hatem) // Aug 1, 2012 at 12:21 AM
Was impressed with Anita in the Southampton friendly- seen him quite a few times but never solely watched what he did. Extremely neat and tidy.
49 MacToon // Aug 1, 2012 at 12:21 AM
I understand and agree to a point TDSarf, worth a thought though of the years of scouting involved and the tapping up lol, we look for the right temperament in the player too. The right payer at the right cost to the club.
Sometimes they seem few and far between
It’s a long drawn out process and shouldn’t always be sniffed at once it gets to the money stage.
Saying that though, whatever will be, will be!
50 davybtoon // Aug 1, 2012 at 12:27 AM
Anita, debuchy n Douglas would cost around 17 to 20m which is what was rumoured we had for transfers, good business if u ask me if they happen
51 ToonDarnSarf // Aug 1, 2012 at 12:27 AM
superkrul – Agree on Simpson, he’s decent, but I’d like to see a better RB who is Champions League quality. We need to do what Spurs have done, keep upgrading, keep the best players, and get into the Champions League to keep them happy.
Add that to only selling for ridiculous prices and a few youth players coming in, will give us some happy times in the next few years!
We still have a month to go though…of course we’re going to offer under the asking price, it’s the only way to negotiate!

MacToon – I bet we’ve got a big list of players in all positions, with a estimated buying price on all of them, and a max price that we’d be willing to pay.
You never know…we may end up signing some player for £3M that Carr has been scouting for the last 6 years, but we’ve never heard of, and he turns out to be world class!

I could write an article…how about “Newcastle to sign Theo Walcott. Theo is actually a boyhood Newcastle fan and wants to follow in the footsteps of Alan Shearer and play for his hometown club, despite the option to stay with Arsenal, or move to Man Utd. Blah blah…”

To be fair I’m not even sure this will happen if we don’t offer what they want but if we don’t sign him van der wiel could be a fantastic option over debuchy and if simpson goes get both van der wiel is still young and also I think weou could sign douglas,anita,carroll/remy and konate then debuchy or van der wiel then along with fanoo, bigi and good wed have a really strong squad but an even more improved and better quality squad that will want champions leagueotball and can get it and be contenders for at least next 3 years with team we have then some fresh blood when ba and colo start to slow down

Conaldo – That’s brilliant mate! I’m copying that one!
68 joe // Aug 1, 2012 at 4:14 AM
Back to Ricardo Carvalho, can’t understand why people dont want him if we can get him for cheap. That guy is absolute CLASS, even at 34. Probably still better than our captain Colo himself!
69 shamsoftabriz // Aug 1, 2012 at 5:06 AM
So we can get Debuchy for only 8 million? Good Heavens, pay them! This guy is world class, one of the best players on their national side. Would love to see he and Santon flying up the wings from their back positions. We’ll be able to break like lightning when teams get greedy and bring too many forward. Mathieu is exactly the sort of skilled, fast player we need more of on Tyneside if we’re serious about top 4.
70 shamsoftabriz // Aug 1, 2012 at 5:09 AM
And let’s be clear:
Van Der Wiel is okay, but Debuchy blows him out of the water. I’d also rather have Debuchy than an aging Carvalho.
71 shamsoftabriz // Aug 1, 2012 at 5:13 AM
@joe I’ll grant you that if we can get him for just 5 mil and only have to pay him for a year or two, than why not. I’ll take the risk.

I think I am seeing a pattern here with Lille; had we bid 8M then they would most certainly want 10M.
They are just stalling us and really taking us as fools.
One cannot argue that Debuchy is worth more than 8M; a player is only worth what the bidding club is willing to pay.
It is always the selling club’s right to keep the player – just wouldn’t suggest that than he clearly isn’t happy.

I’m so bored with debuchy rumours day in day out. I want him to sign but totally agree that we should stick to our valuation and screw what Lille might price him at. If they over price him then they won’t sell. They will be stuck with an unhappy player. It may come to him handing in an official request to force lille’s hand. But even THAT might not work.
With regards to simmo, whilst I agree that debuchy / van der wiel would be an upgrade on the lad, people saying we will never get a top 4 finish with him in the side is ridiculous! We very nearly got a top 4 finish last season with him. Had Tayls stayed fit it might well have happened.

The Cabaye deal was a bargain because he had a clause in his contract.

Van der Weil is the starting RB for Holland isn’t he? Whereas Debuchy is a bench warmer when Sagna is fit
Both excel in a top team in average leagues both attacking fullbacks who can be suspect at defending, age and contract lenght are on VdW’s side however public desire and contacts (I don’t know if Krul is friends with VdW) are on Debuchy’s
Both would be great to have

On Debuchy, there is also the chance that other clubs are waiting for us to wear Lille down, see where we finally finish on a fee and then try and steal the deal.
If I was another club, I would certainly be watching what Newcastle were up to and this would seem an easy way to let someone else do the hard work.
Does this article source actually say whose said this about us needing to increase the offer?
I’d love Debuchy, but let’s not make the mistake of thinking he is the only RB that can take us forward.

The value of having new players in now, compared to the last day of the window is pretty big. On top of that prices get inflated on the last day.
104 Toon_Jock // Aug 1, 2012 at 9:06 AM
Total Bargain basement price for international player that had a blinder @ Euro 2012s
105 ~Debuchery on a Dreamboat~ // Aug 1, 2012 at 9:06 AM
On the subject regarding Colo’s call up to the squad on the 15th of August.
I personally don’t think it would be fair for Pardew to not allow Colo to go… as for the last Two seasons since promotion he has arguably been one of the top 10 best CB’s in the BPL and he should have been in the Argentine squad then. If he doesn’t go to the friendly, it could be his last chance to play for them gone. Likewise, I don’t want him to be fatigued for the crucial game against Spurs.
106 Ibizatoon - Back by popular demand // Aug 1, 2012 at 9:07 AM
On Coloccini….Not the best news for us, but thrilled for him.
We have to accept that the better we get, the better our players get, the more players we will lose to International games etc.
All positive signs at the end of the day. Let’s just hope he comes through unscathed.
Captain Colo to lead us to greatness!
107 Toon73 // Aug 1, 2012 at 9:09 AM
Reading between the lines we’ve agreed on a fee for Paul Scharner.
108 Toon_Jock // Aug 1, 2012 at 9:10 AM
Chuffed for Colo… Timing sucks though!
109 ~Debuchery on a Dreamboat~ // Aug 1, 2012 at 9:10 AM
By the way, anyone notice the Irony regarding Bale?
He makes a fib about having an Injury and therefore being unfit to make the GB team, then nearly gets a repeat of his 3 month Injury whilst playing a friendly against Liverpool.
karma sure is a b!tch isn’t it.
110 eaststandgeordie1982 // Aug 1, 2012 at 9:10 AM
How many players will we be linked with today???????
111 Lee Dodd // Aug 1, 2012 at 9:10 AM
He Will arrive at Newcastle its just hard ball time !!!!! Probably bid €7.5 million by the end of the week and get him … I would drop the Carroll thing get him in 12 months for £5 million …. let him stay on the bench at liverpool !!!!!
112 nimo // Aug 1, 2012 at 9:11 AM
On the subject of collo pardew can’t stop him from going
113 WWYCD // Aug 1, 2012 at 9:11 AM
Am I the only one chuffed for Colo then? Bloke deserves it easily one of (if not the) best CBs in the PL last season plus he barely ever gets hurt
I am shocked that City, Man U or Chelsea havent come for him in all honesty
114 Papiss9 // Aug 1, 2012 at 9:13 AM
Why Colo hasn’t been called up before this, is a joke. He should start every game for them imo. great player

I don;t think anyone here has not expressed happiness at Colo finally getting his long deserved Call Up.

@95 -yeh i get the sneaking suspicion that were still interested in pieters and that we are waiting for him to get the all clear before making a move, another attempted ”friend” signing for krul, just going from what AP said the other month, anyone agree?

he don’t he loves it here, but if wenger or mourinho comes to him and says i really really want you to be startrer in my team, then he (benny) would consider it.

Hello, I have been a loyal Newcastle United fan for the last six year. I am from New Zealand and am asking you too please suort New Zealand against Brazil tonight. Ian Hogg our LB supports Newcastle United also; I believe that if we managed to get past Brazil it would revolutionalize football in our small country, so please if possible support New Zealand over Brazil. Go the toon!

I don’t think Douglas will join, he is too complicated. I’d rather see Pieters as he can also play LB. Simpson is probably gone if he didn’t sign new contract. So hopefully we will also get Van der Wiel, if not is ok. We have a lot of players who can play both fb positions and they did great job : Raylor, Santon, Tav, Fergie, Perch, Jonas.
135 Jammo Toon // Aug 1, 2012 at 9:43 AM
Just bid 7 mil they would probably accept that
136 redondo77 // Aug 1, 2012 at 9:45 AM
On Debuchy, I think MA is waiting for Inter final bid. If Lille accept Inter’s bid, MA will be going in with the same bid and there’s noway that Lille can reject it. Then it’s up to Debuchy.
137 Jammo Toon // Aug 1, 2012 at 9:50 AM
If we can’t get debuchy we should get van der wiel also get Varane from Madrid as he needs experience and he is a lot better than willo

Then there is a dilema Jonas or Demba BA, cause Marveaux is going to be a starter for sure.

Lads, sorry I just had to slap myself to check I was actually awake… It’s the 1st of August which mean’s Demba Ba’s not going anywhere… WHAT A RESULT!!!!!
Now all we need are a few signings (which I’m confident we’ll get) and we’re laughing!

I don’t think Inter have or will bid for Debuchy; it is just the media speculating.
We are the only club so far who have placed a bid for him; Lille can hold out for only so long. Eventually they have to let him go – you cannot keep a player who wants to leave.
I think most club who have looked at Debuchy knows by now that hw wants to join Newcastle; so why bother.
Lille is playing a losing game if you ask me.
159 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 1, 2012 at 10:15 AM
Darrenfletcher they can hardly be angry with us because they were stupid enough to put such a low release clause in his contract, if we lost ba yesterday we would of blamed the club for putting the clause in not the club that bought him!!!
160 stephen30 // Aug 1, 2012 at 10:16 AM
Debuchy will be an nufc player in the next 7 days and will be announced withing the next 14 days

Stephen 30, hope your correct pal
164 Beattie25 // Aug 1, 2012 at 10:24 AM
I really think we need vurnon Anita!
He is the one player that we are in for that could truly evolve our team.
Douglas would be depth, Debuchy an upgrade, Remy a luxury but Anita would take us forward as a footballing team.
Alongside Tiote and Cabaye he would transform our 11 enough to control games, dictate the play and increase our ability to win back the ball.
He for me is a must and the singular most important signing we could/should make.
In 2-3 years Bigi, Abied and Vuckic will be immense but for the immediate future Anita needs to be purchased.
165 Adssy Mccc // Aug 1, 2012 at 10:50 AM
@Beattie25
I have to agree with your post. Spot on about Anita. I would be buzzing for weeks if we got Remy as well though!
Those two players in particular would take us up a level again…
Hate waiting though…..
