Newcastle Put In Bid Of £4M For Brazilian

There are reports in Setanta Sports and other news outlets this morning,  that Newcastle have now offered FC Twente £4M  for their center-back Douglas, and if the news is to be believed, that’s around €1M more than they offered a couple of weeks ago.

Douglas – Newcastle have bid £4M for defender – according to reports

The new offer is said to be £4M, which translates to around €5M and the last bid was for €4M (£3.1M), so that’s about a 25% increase on the bid they made about two weeks ago – always assuming this news is accurate.

Alan Pardew has said he is hoping for one senior transfer to be completed before next Sunday and maybe two, so perhaps Douglas is one of those, although he will not be able to move to Newcastle until about four weeks time, because of residency requirements, so he can qualify for a Dutch passport and play for the Netherlands.

Douglas has one year left on his current deal, and he confounded both Newcastle and his club FC Twente recently,  when he said he may want to stay in Holland, and see out his contract. That’s after he had been quoted several times as as saying now was the right time for him to leave Twente.

We’re not sure about this lad’s character,  as he also said several weeks ago there was a bigger club than Newcastle interested in him, and that club was thought to be Italian Champions Juventus.

Alan Pardew has to be very careful that he only brings in good characters to Tyneside, and it only takes one bad apple to spoil the barrel, so we’re just not sure about Douglas.

This report could be true, but if it is and this offer is turned down, Newcastle will hardly be willing to raise their fee too much more for this 24 year-old Brazilian, who looks a good player.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens – maybe Newcastle can have some successes in the transfer market this week – that would be good.

Would be nice for this to be true. Some people on here really need a first team signing and soon 🙂

Be great to have another ready CB in the team. Plus Debuchy, Good and some striker to slot in somewhere and this would have been a really successful window, despite some people’s opinions.

Emirates247 states we have offered him 40k a week which i think is too much. 30k sounds reasonable

Come on Ashley, just start throwing money at them ffs. Forget Carroll, add another £7m to your offers for Douglas and Debuchy and we’ll be sorted. How this man runs a successful business I’ll never know

Aye. Tav has really taken the bull by the horn’s so to speak. So has Bigri, Sammy and Abeid. Shame Ferguson had that niggling injury earlier this month.

Haven’t been that impressed with Vuckic, but to be fair he has had a lot of recent injury set backs. Still have high hopes for him.

His bigger club comments weren’t really offensive to us when you look at what he actually said he wasn’t wanting to go to a bigger club he was just aware of interest from a CL team.

Anyway I’m not convinced that his temprement is good enough. Someone made an excellent point the other day saying its easier to change a problem like a players temprement than problems such as being injury prone or just lacking ability full stop.

If Pardew thinks he can mould this guy then perhaps he’ll be another Graham Carr wonder buy but I can’t help thinking we’re about to see some stupid sending offs in the style of Joey Barton from his last QPR game.

1)Have anyone actually seen Vurnon Anita playing in a left back position? For a 5ft 6inch player i want to know how different is his game compared to Simpson.

    2) For Ajax , he played the last half of the season as a DM. Again, has anyone seen him play? Is his style better than tiote? is he fast? Skillful?

now this is one deal i would love as think he’s as cool headed as colo tav as good as he is is still raw and needs experience taylor is awsome but injury prone (due to the fact he plays his heart out every game)
think a lb/rb is most needed though

repost from last thread and my answer
carroll is better in the air than all 3 of our strikers and you forget his contribution when here. he is good in his own box and at 23 has room to improve all aspects of his game he is certainly further forward than cisse ba were at that age. also what do you propose if senegal beat ic and we lose ba / cisse or god forbid ba leaves today remember sholas injury record is only marginally better than taylors. i want competition for places and an england striker who (allegedly) wants to come here will do for me

Debuchery – i’m gonna answer your 2 question on this thread so it’s easier to follow.

Firstly…realistically, from what he had shown for us in the Championship and first half-season in the Premiership i’d say his real value would have been around 10mil (included inflation for being english). Ofc now it’s a little higher with him being a full england international even though he had a poor season…although he improved at the end and had a decent Euro (imho was the best striker in the England team and i wont ever understand why Welbeck was picked to start despite being the lazy player that he is).

To answer your second question. First off…a case can MAYBE be made for Demba Ba as a threat in the air though not the caliber Carroll is…Cisse on the other hand can not be called a target man whichever way you look at it. As far as what he could bring…well besides the obvious aerial threat he could bring brute force (pushing off defenders and such) , creating spaces (for himself and teammates) and offering flick-ons for the likes of HBA, Cabs or Marv. I also think he is not really that bad with his feet as some people make it seems. From there on end its up to Pardew to teach him and turn him into a top class striker…he’s only 23 remember. A bit of work on his passing and tactical discipline could do wonders given his already good work rate.

And i dont think this has anything to do with playing hoofball either (like some seem to think) and i’ve said this before…it’s up to the manager to teach the players to respect his strategy and tactics and prevent them from getting lazy and just hoofing it to the big man…if he cant then it’s on him not the striker.

Of course, this is all true if indeed Pardew does want AC. If he thinks he can mold him into a great striker and sees a potential goalscorer for the next 10 years or so. Cause if he doesn’t…then it’s a waste of money for NUFC and a waste of time for the player himself…. and i think this holds true to a certain degree for any player we might bring in.

1 player from 11 mate and 1 game that was a friendly plus the amount of shots/chances they got on our goal they should of walked all over us

Cant really rate players from friendlies because they in nature are friendly very little on them no pressure and barely any player goes all out
