Sunderland Poised To Beat Magpies To Dutch International

Newcastle will be represented tonight at Carrow Road to watch Ajax take on Chris Hughton’s Norwich City, and they will be scouting Vurnon Anita, and the news is that Sunderland are also very keen on the Dutch  full-back come defensive midfielder.

Vurnon Anita – in action against Red devils last season

The news earlier this summer was that Newcastle had a €5M bid turned down by Ajax for the player, and since then Vurnon has made it clear he wants to join the Magpies.

And from what we’ve heard about this lad, he is a very good technical player and versatile too, because he played last season in defensive midfield for Ajax (36 appearances) and the season before that, he played at left back (45 times).

There is no panic going on within the Newcastle hierarchy at the moment, even though it’s August tomorrow, and the Magpies have still to sign their first senior player in this summer’s  transfer window.

The 23-year-old Anita has looked very good in pre-season, and if Newcastle are not to be beaten to the player by Sunderland, they will need to decide quickly if they want the Dutch International, and then put in an increased bid for him.

Otherwise he could well end up playing in red and white stripes next season – and that would not be good.

The Evening Chronicle is reporting today that sources at Carrow Road (Chris?) say a Newcastle request for a place in the directors’ box has been been received for tonight’s game.

If this is all true, we could well see another Newcastle bid lodged for Vurnon shortly, but if he plays well tonight, then Sunderland could also go in with a bid, and we’re not too good at bidding high for players these days, and Sunderland will likely bid higher for Anita, if they are really keen on him.

It’s starting to be crunch time for Newcastle with some of their targets like Debuchy, Douglas, Carroll and Anita – and we’d love to see this Dutch international join Newcastle’s ranks this summer.

He looks a good player and he could do a job at Newcastle.

What do you think?

Come on … Carr checks out players for years.

Whether Anita plays well in a pre-season friendly v Norwich can’t have any bearing on a bid.

If (and its a big if I know) reported prices are correct we could end up with Van Der Wiel, Pieters and Douglas for less than 15 mill transfer outlay (no idea about wages obviously) surely that would be enough in the defence for a good few seasons

I dont think we will lose Ba. Its too late to agree to the fee and the wage demands he puts through before agreeing to the deal plus medical. No one has inquired so far.

WWYCD – Where did you hear that? £15m would be an amazing outlay for those 3 players!

As far as Anita goes, I would love him to come to the toon – however the price has to be right. If he is priced too high then we will walk away. Bigi will develop well this year and can do a job when called upon IMO.

Anybody know if the game is on TV ? Wouldnt mind watching it to see how he plays.

Ed – your’e starting to sensationalise your headlines.
Wouldn’t it be more accurate to have put the word ‘are’ in front of ‘Sunderland’, or replace ‘beat magpies to’ with ‘challenge magpies on’?
Fans are choking on their cornflakes when you do this.

Hope the continued link with Anita is correct. The trail had gone quiet but he would really be a good fit into the 4-2 -3-1 formation that it is rumoured Pardew favours. He would provide a better balance to
Tiote in CM and enable us to accommodate the creative types without
weakening us defensively. Anita is a tidy busy player who will help
retain possession and is versatile enough to play in a number of
different positions . Those watching Dutch football on ESPN last
season would have been surprised that Anita did not make the final cut for the Euro’s . As for man mountain Douglas he would complement Collo’s fine technical skills . Other alternatives
mentioned today seem implausible given that STaylor is waiting in the wings. Taylor willl need to be eased back into games given the busy opening programme.
