We put up a poll a few days ago with four potential strikers for Newcastle, with an estimate of how much they would cost in the transfer market, and asked our readers to select who they thought would be the best deal for Newcastle.
Loic Remy for £9M – reader’s choice
And it seems most of our readers would prefer Loic Remy to be brought in from Marseilles, if we can get him for £9M, and Loic got 58% of the vote, and of course a good deal should be possible, since he’s in the last year of his contract, and Newcastle have trailed this player for over four years now.
Andy Carroll was third in the poll, assuming we could get him for £15M from Liverpool, and he got only 13% (unlucky for some) of the vote.
And the poll is not unrealistic, since this is the way the Newcastle hierarchy looks at transfers – which is the best deal for Newcastle.
Here’s the results of the poll, and there’s still time to vote if you haven’t yet voted.
Which Striker Would Be The Best Buy For Newcastle?
- Loic Remy for £9M (60%, 3,676 )
- John Guidetti for £7M (23%, 1,426 )
- Andy Carroll for £15M (14%, 842 )
- Luc Castaignos for £6M (3%, 196 )

Comment #3TBH I’d rather see Anita through the door than AC.
The lineup with Anita/Tiote/Cabaye mid and any combination of Benny, Marv, Ba, Cisse, Obertan, Shola, Sammy etc. up front would be mint.
Remy the icing on the cake…

Comment #4and sorry to say the title is really poorly chosen. As if this would ever have any influence on who the board decide to sign…

Comment #5Errrrm missing the issue that Remy wouldn’t cost 9m, he’d be closer to 15m himself! I don’t think any signing we make will top 12m to be honest! Think pardews got about 25m to spend over 4 positions, a right back, centre back, centre mid and striker with Simpson being sold when we get a right back! Would expect 6m on a rb, 7m on a mid, 5m on a centrehalf and about 8m on a striker we hvnt been linked with!

Comment #6Totally agree, remy would be a great signing but would cost 15-17 mil. Not 8.

Comment #7If we’re allowed to pick the price, I think I’d go a little lower than £9m 😉

Of course I wasn’t suggesting it was solely down to Anita haha 😀 But he’s a really neat little player, and I’m sure it was part of the reason – they’d been struggling terribly.
I just disagree with jimmy suggesting he’d be bought in as a LB – there’s no way he would join a club to be their LB.

‘..As if this would ever have any influence on who the board decide to sign…’
When the scouting team look at players, the cost is just one of many considerations. They look at the obvious things like performance, age, wage but possibly more importantly they look at the players character, his family life, the way he conducts himself, his relationship with other players and his club. These attributes are very important to Newcastle because of the fantastic camaraderie and togetherness that the squad has which has helped them win and draw games whereas in the past previous Newcastle sides would have capitulated and gone belly up.

I agree I’d like Anita. He so versatile can play with full back position when needed or sit comfortable anywhere in midfield. These are the type of players we need

Comment #15Slank – i never said they weren’t important mate. I was refering to the title “Note to Mike Ashley – Please sign Loic Remy for 9mil”. I meant that articles and comments on a blog are unlikely to influence the MA or other members of NUFC staff.
Thats all i said…well…besides the price being off by quite a wide margin.

Comment #16sorry but ed where do you pluck some of your quotes and stories from. I’ve heard of deluded but some stories and transfer quotes come straight from your mind. I would like to think your imaginative rather than senile.

Comment #19Would love Anita also! He’s a next level of class player, would help take us to the next level! Would also love Douglas! Be a great signing, gonna get some flak for this but if he played for Newcastle the way he plays for twente, he would be our BEST centreback! He’s been the best centreback in Holland for 2 seasons, ahead of alderweireld, vertonghan and Vlaar! He’s a vidic like player and could be as good as him if he adapts! The Dutch are desperate for him to qualify for their national team!

Douglas reputation is exaggerated according to Torqtoon and a few other bloggers.
Anita, Debuchy and Douglas and we’d be great at the back. Next level players is a good way of putting it.

Comment #25pardews waxwork lips – if you’re attributing ED to the fanciful quotes and rumours you may have missed the point of the blog. He puts this stuff up to create discussion, whereupon we can do one of several things – rubbish the story, back it up, rave or fret about it, and occasionally tear each other to pieces over the ramifications. ED might put a bit of jam on it but don’t shoot the messenger.

Comment #30i think it would be possible for newcastle to get him for 9 million but marseille would probably try to hold out for at least 12..the reason ed put it at 9 is because marseille are in financial difficultys and he is in the last year of his contract..9 million for sum1 who can be free next summer is a pretty good deal for marseille if you ask me
