Now we have Demba Ba on board for the season, we certainly feel a little better with two great strikers up front for Newcastle in Cisse and Ba, and now we need at least three top senior players brought in this month to round out the squad, and the goal has to be to qualify for the Champions League, which seems the next step in Newcastle’s progression forward.
Alan Pardew – only topping up is necessary
It seems that Newcastle are still trying to bring three players through the door in Andy Carroll, Vurnon Anita and Mathieu Debuchy, but none of these deals appears to be easy ones to get completed, with Newcastle still trying to get really good deals, but the other clubs are now wise to Newcastle, given the great signings we have made over the last couple of seasons.
But it seems Alan Pardew is not too worried about the squad at the moment, since he feels top players were brought to the club last season, and the squad just needs a little topping up this summer.
This is what Alan told the Journal this morning:
“We’ve got the product now – it’s not like we need to make ground-breaking changes now like we did last year.”
“In my view we needed to make those changes last year. We’ve done them, we’ve done the major surgery that we needed to do and now the priority is something different.”
“It is about bringing in a little bit of quality to improve the squad.”
With Andy Carroll it will be very difficult to get him from Liverpool at the low fee Newcastle are willing to bid for him, especially after West Ham offered some daft money for him – money they haven’t got by the way.
And Newcastle are still short of the asking price for Mathieu Debuchy, and something should happen on that in the next few days, and with Vurnon Anita we think Sunderland will be willing to bid more than Newcastle for the player.
If the news is to be believed, we have also put in an improved bid for Douglas of FC Twente, but we’re not too sure of the character of this player, although we may be overplaying that a bit.
It would be very good to get at least one player through the door before the Den Haag game on Saturday afternoon, which has a 5:00 pm kick off.
What do you think?

Comment #4here’s no point changingth banner half way through the window.
When we sign Iniesta on deadline day, it’ll have to be changed again.

Comment #10I’d give up putting AC in the wishlist. I’d settle for 2-3 bluechip incomers.
Jimmy from previous thread.
It’s all seems a bit glass half empty from your comments.
Anita played DM for Ajax this season from LB and was shifted into that position by VB I think, and has said he prefers to play there.
Can’t agree we are reverting to a 4-4-2 – Pards has not abandoned 4-3-3 at all – we have not simply played Cabaye or HBA pre season and they would both be in the EPL starting 11 in a 4-3-3 or variation.

Comment #11If we dont get Carroll back, it wont be the end of the world, thats for sure.
I can see Debuchey, Anita and maybe Douglas coming into the squad before the end of the window. Playing Tiote and Anita in front of the back four would free up Cabaye for a much more creative role with Ben Arfa and Marvey out wide and either Cisse or Ba up front.
I think that would give us great potential going forward and in defence.

Comment #12Ajax didn’t drop a single point last season with Anita playing CM.
Him switching to CM coincided with a ridiculous winning run, and Ajax went from 6th to 1st.

Comment #13Anybody know what date the new home top is coming out??
You can usually order it weeks before it comes out.
But not this year for some reason??

Comment #14@ Dmac from previous thread – We never had Aloisi, I presume your thinking of the Australian lad James Troisi, who is playing somewhere in Turkey now if memory serves me correctly.

Comment #15@TDS Ajax run also coincided with a lot fixtures against lesser teams and home games vs PSV and twente! I like Anita, very tidy player, his signing would signify the end of long direct style because he is very much a passing team player, would slot straight in somewhere like arsenal! He is very small and slight though, remember last year pardew saying we needed height in midfield…..

Comment #16TBH I’d rather see Anita through the door than AC.
The lineup with Anita/Tiote/Cabaye mid and any combination of Benny, Marv, Ba, Cisse, Obertan, Shola, Sammy etc. up front would be mint
