Jonas Gutierrez is a big believer in the Newcastle youngsters, and they again impressed in the 4-1 win at Gateshead last night with Mehdi Abeid, Gael Bigirimana and Romain Amalfitano all catching the eye at the International Stadium.
Romain Amalfitano in action last night
New boy Curtis Good got 79 minutes in the game, and looked like very comfortable at the back for the Magpies, and he was then substituted, and we have to think he’ll get some playing time on Saturday afternoon against Den Haag in Holland.
The goal-scorers for Newcastle were Abeid 6 minutes, Amalfitano 23 minutes, Newton 71 minutes and Maddison 72 minutes, with the Gateshead goal coming from Cummins after 28 minutes.
It appears that Alan Pardew will use his top youngsters in the Europa League games next season, and those would include new boy Curtis Good, Gael Bigirimana, Romain Amalfitano, Haris Vuckic, Sammy Ameobi and James Tavernier, and some of the youngsters could be forcing their way into first team action as the season progresses.
We certainly hope so because if we can get one or two youngsters coming through big time this season, that will certainly help the cause.
Curtis Good in Newcastle’s black and white colors last night
Argentine International Jonas Gutierrez believes the young players at Newcastle can get more and more first team action, if they continue the progress they have shown in pre-season:
This is what Jonas told the Newcastle Journal today:
“I am happy to be one of the senior men. The years go by and you grow up which is good.” “Now we have a lot of young players in the squad so it is good to have a chat with them.”
“They have to learn about the Premier League but from working with them I can say that they have a really, really good future.” “We have a big group of young players so if they learn and try to improve, they can be very big in the future for Newcastle United.”
“Maybe this season too, because we don’t have the biggest squad.” “With Europe too we have a lot of games and I think all of the players are going to be part of it this season.”
“We have a really good team spirit but we have to focus in pre-season to work hard, to gel together and to move forward because it’s going to be a long season.”
And one disappointment yesterday for Alan Pardew was that he had a number of his top players were called up for International duty – Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Cisse, Demba Ba, Tiote and Coloccini – and the games are on the Wednesday before the season starts, and they are all friendlies.
You would be hard pressed to find a date that is more inconvenient for Premier League clubs – and they will have to wait and see if their players return uninjured from those games.
But it seems a little silly to play these Internationals at such a daft time for the clubs – who after all, are the ones who pay the player’s wages.
What do you think?

Comment #5Valci im just nitpicking but the price being touted for remy, apparantly due to the clubs financial situation, is €14 mil not £15 mil so its about £10.5 mil which is a good price for the lad

Comment #8Ed, its a complete joke, but FIFA seem to think their need to make money outweighs the needs of the clubs who look after the players 24/7.
As long as you have a bunch of has-been, over the hill criminals in charge of FIFA, nothing will change – except maybe more meaningless internationals to keep FIFA’s coffers topped up.
Corruption is rife, self-interest much more important and they prove it time and time again. They are a disgrace.

Comment #9Nobody knows the values of players, just speculation in the papers.
Debuchy will be done I think. If they were asking a price we wouldn’t pay and showed no signs on budging we would have moved on by now.
Either ashley will pay the money or they will drop down.

That may be what the papers are touting but am sure Spurs (according to those same papers) had a 13-15mill bid turned down for him not too long ago

Comment #11International football is the pinnacle and the proudest moment for most players. Just doesn’t seem to be high on the priority list for English players.
Intentional friendlies are important, give coaches and players chance to see what it’s all about and how well they do.

Comment #12TADS – dunno what the financial state of Marseille is tbh…maybe that has brought the price down but as far as i know his valuation was around 18mil euros at best. Course…who really knows these things…

Spot on lad. From Blatter down they all know what they have been up to and I bet if the lid comes off there’ll be jail for some of them. Not Ashley though lol.
These friendlies are pointless. Its not as if the International team reflects that of the team that plays in competition. So no continuity just chance of seeing someone pull out of there club game the following weekend through injury.

I agree, Remy is more like around 15M pounds – way above the 8M ED has posted.

Comment #16Decent performance last night and a good run out for the youngsters against a good side. See one of our released players Ryan McGorrigan was in the Gateshead side.
Be good for Gateshead to get to League 2, plus better standard for us to send some loanees out to them.

Comment #17Spurs had a 14m turned down, price was being touted then was £25m for him! Marseille are in bad financial condition, the thought in France however is Remy will stay there as he doesn’t want a move! From Marseille, its worth looking at amalfitano, and Andre and Jordan Ayew! Very good players that Marseille would rather let go than their star striker!

Haven’t a clue bud but I would of thought if Remy is avilable for a haf of his worth there would be a lot of clubs looking at him and it wouldn’t be kept quiet. Who really knows tho

Comment #23The younguns are a valuable part of our squad and shouldn’t be underestimated because of their age. If they’re good enough then they are old enough!
